How about getting a job in Finland?
Skilled hands needed in many fieldsFinland is bidding immigrants a warm welcome. The attractions of working in Finland include good working conditions and high employment security. Even the intriguing Finnish language poses no barrier to newcomers willing to make an effort. Last year some 22,500 people migrated to Finland. Photos: Anna Dammert, except inner photo right: Tekes/Matias UusikyläFinland has woken up to the fact that when the post-war baby-boom age groups retire, it will face a labour shortage that its own younger generation will be unable to fill. For example, if all the jobs that will be vacated in nursing over the next few decades had to be filled with Finns only, then one in four of Finland’s young people would have to train to be nurses. Since that situa

Apparently if you are in Finland and drunk this is what you end up with (or at least I wouldn't think you could eat that sober). So whats in that thing? Donuts, some kind of pork patty, garlic sauce (looks like cheese to me), a hidden sausage, and that lame looking thing on the right is a burger.Jaskan Grilli Roukontie 22,37630 ValkeakoskiFINLANDPhotos by BeMa

On my recent trip to Finland: a tour of Vaasa
In 1992 I lived in Vaasa, Finland with a wonderful family. Amazingly, we've kept in close touch ever since; we've seen each other several times in the States, in Finland, in England. Talked on the phone, emailed, text messaged, and shared tragedy and joy with each other.Over the course of 16 years, we have become family.I went to Finland a few weeks ago for my dear Finnish sister's (Pia) wedding. On the first full day I was there, the younger daughter (Nea) and I went to run some errands. We first went to the university where she is currently studying...Please note: there is snow. There is ice. There are bikes. And people ride them. On the ice? And the snow? You've got to be kidding me. The answer: snow tires. I don't know if you can see it from this photo, but there are studs (metal

Fire during the Nightwish Gig in Finland - 6500 People were Evacuated
Nightwish had a gig in Jyvaskyla in Finland on Friday. After only three songs they had to stop playing due to thick smoke on stage. Finnish newspapers reported that there was a lot of smoke and flames in the roof. The whole audience, about 6500 people, was evacuated immediately. Nightwish quickly stepped back from the stage, but came back later on and continued the gig. People were not in panic, but a little bit furious due to half an hour break. The fire was a real, but hopefully the firemen took the situation in control. People were not reported about the incident, which is probably one reason for being frustrated. Hopefully Nightwish bassist Marco Hietala told the audience the fire in the roof. Newspapers report that Marco Hietala had asked the audience: “Are You Still in Flames”? ? Another great news from Nightwish is that today their Dark Passion Play album has sold 100 000 pieces in Finland! In Switzerland the album sales has reached the platinum level. This is grea

      Gun Control In Finland
In the wake of a murderous rampage in Finland, gun control advocates there and throughout Europe are calling for more gun control in the country. But what effect have strict gun laws had in Mexico? Or Brazil? Or England? Or Russia? Or South Africa? People like Rebecca Peters say that civilian ownership of firearms needs to be restricted in order to keep us safe. But everywhere you look, the evidence shows that even the worst gun control doesn't reduce the illegal trade in firearms, and the laws don't...(read more)

Yes, Finland once again took the lead in OECD's three-yearly PISA test of 15-year old secondary-school students, followed by Hong Kong (China) and Canada in second and third place. The tests we focused on science but also examined math and reading orientation. I happen to know one of the great teachers they have there and I can tell why.
