Yet another new study shows that ballistic fingerprinting doesn't work the way the gun-banners claimed it would. Doubts about the validity of the science, combined with problems in real-world implementation, mean that for the foreseeable future, we probably won't be hearing the anti-gunners clamoring for this new piece of gun control. Instead, expect to hear a lot of talk about "microstamping." The authors of the study on ballistic fingerprinting mentioned microstamping as an alternative....(read more)

Global threats especially those due to invasion of a country’s border, are not limited to the United States. Recent restrictions at marine ports in Canada, similar to the TWIC program in the US requ
Yes, its now official all non-Japanese nationals or persons with special privileges and permission inside of or visiting Japan are all suspected terrorists. I've never been off this beautiful tropical island rock called Jamaica, not because I couldn't but because I refuse to travel to another persons country and feel like a second rate human and the visa and paperwork requirements were too much for me and I couldn't be bothered. I am having trouble swallowing the terrorism prevention measure excuse been offered up by Japan and my plans for visiting Japan just got more complicated. I have nothing to fear and to the best of my knowledge I am not a terrorist but if this is not discrimination I don't know what is and if I were a terrorist Japan would be extra attractive right now, can you imagine the publicity bomb the first terrorist attack in japan after these new rules are implemented will get now?
Even if you have lived and worked in Japan for years you are not exempt - image sou

The AP writes that YouTube will begin testing video recognition technology in conjunction with Time Warner and Disney. Testing will begin next month in hopes that the software, designed to recognize copyright content in videos, will be ready to roll out later this year, the company said. Google, which now owns YouTube, had agreed to implement some kind of technology to identify copyright content on its site so it can remove pirated content or negotiate with owners for a license.
Although much of YouTube’s videos are home-made, copyright content from such partners as CBS and NBC also attract viewers. In March, Viacom, which no longer owns CBS, sued YouTube and Google for more than $1 billion in a federal complaint alleging YouTube hasn’t done enough to prevent its users from posting thousands of copyright clips to the site. YouTube stated that it had already started using audio recognition technology from Audible Magic in an attempt to block unauthorized content or pa
DNA fingerprinting is a way of identifying a specific individual, rather than simply identifying a species or some particular trait. It is also known as genetic fingerprinting or DNA profiling. As a technology, it has been around since at least 1985, when it was announced by its inventor, Sir Alec Jeffreys. DNA fingerprinting is currently used both for identifying paternity or maternity and for identifying criminals or victims.
There is discussion of using DNA fingerprinting as a sort of personal identifier as well, although the viability of this is debatable. The vast majority of a humans DNA will match exactly that of any other human, making distinguishing between two people rather difficult. DNA fingerprinting uses a specific type of DNA sequence, known as a microsatellite, to make identification much easier. Microsatellites are short pieces of DNA which repeat many times in a given persons DNA. In a given area, microsatellites tend to be highly variable, making them id
