Well there’s no shortage of “American Idol” dirt this season, huh? The latest Idol scandal is that finalist David Hernandez was once a stripper.A Phoenix male strip club manager spilled the beans to The Associated Press — looks like David Hernandez was once a stripper at gay strip club Dick’s Cabaret. And I’m totally not making up that club’s name, either.David Hernandez appeared fully nude and even gave lap dances at the gay strip club. Talented!According to Dick’s Cabaret manager Gordy Bryan, David Hernandez “had the look and the type that people like, so he made pretty good money here.”And this wasn’t a one-time deal for the “American Idol” hopeful — David Hernandez was a stripper at Dick’s Cabaret for three years. His last appearance was in September 2007.

Today's News-Enterprise article on Commish finalist Richard Hughes recalls his Hardin County past. Hughes served as Hardin County Schools’ superintendent from 2002 to 2006. He retired after controversy over some tumultuous issues within the district, such as changing the school calendar and transferring a principal. He has served as a superintendent in Mount Sterling and a principal at three high schools.Hughes told the News-Enterprise, he was interested in the opportunity to impact more than 600,000 students in Kentucky; "It's all about the kids" and "education is life." I'm not sure what that means he would do for Kentucky's schools. I guess he'd just take 'em one game at a time.He pointed out that he has experience running one of Kentucky's largest districts; one supposes, to remind us that his two Kentucky opponents were in charge of smaller independent districts.Criminal and financial background checks on the finalists have started, Board Chairman Joe Brothers of Elizabet

KIMBERLEY Busteed will stick to bathers and lifesaver's cap for the Miss Universe final, despite being branded frumpy.
Is it not enough that women feel compelled to compete with the anorexic looking teenagers passed off as "women" in magazines, but now this full bodied (and quite womanly I must say) lady is accused of being "frumpy".
This is Kimberley Busteed.
The article does not specifically mention who used the word "frumpy" to describe her, but whoever it was to him (or her) I say, "shut your useless fat mouth, you obviously have no concept of what a "woman" looks like. Stick to pontificating on the scrawny arsed teenagers in your mindless magazines".
Despite gaggles of screaming fans and the instant fame of being an "American Idol" finalist, Blake Lewis kept it cool Friday on a "hometown visit" financed by the show.Lewis, one of three finalists on America's favorite reality show, beatboxed on demand, sounding like a human mixing machine. He signed autographs and posed for pictures and handled like a pro all the questions ping-ponged at him.What he didn't do was predict that he's going to win the competition. That, he said, would likely happen for Jordin Sparks, the teenager from Glendale, Ariz.But Lewis, 25, who's been noticed on the show for his smooth voice, beatboxing rhythms, funky style and frosted locks, was cool with that too. During morning interviews at KCPQ/13, he said his first goal was to get into the to 10 and then the top four. His main ambition, he said, is to pursue his music and communicate it to people. A lifelong dream, he added, is to host and be the musical guest on "Saturday Night Live."But winning "Ameri

In July 2005, Kentucky Education Commissioner finalist, Barbara Erwin, received a new, five-year contract with St. Charles School District 303 (west of Chicago between Elgin and Aurora) that would have extended through June 2010.Despite this commitment, Erwin announced in October 2006 that she would retire in July. The Daily Herald quipped, "Erwin certainly is prepared for retirement" and pointed out that she would now receive pension money from districts in Illinois, Arizona, Texas, and possibly Indiana. (Indiana is apparently unconfirmable)Josh Stockinger of the Kane County Daily Herald reports:This is at least the third public education job Erwin has sought since announcing in October her early retirement from St. Charles District 303.The veteran educator said Thursday she reconsidered retirement after being contacted by job recruiters for school systems in at least three states.She added she wasn’t completely sold on retirement when she decided to leave St. Charles — a move sh
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports:NOTE: Mitchell Chester, who is quoted in the article, is one of 3 finalists for Kentucky Education Commissioner.Educators will soon be able to determine whether students taking Algebra II in Lakewood, Ohio, are learning as much as students taking the same class 490 miles away in Lakewood, N.J.That's because the two states are part of a nine-state consortium that has developed a common, end-of-course Algebra II exam. It marks the largest effort a group of states has undertaken to develop a common assessment based on common standards...The exam, which will be available to districts in May 2008, will give Ohio educators an external gauge of how their classes measure up against very similar standards in other states, said Mitchell Chester, associate Ohio superintendent for policy and accountability.Districts do not have to administer the exam. But interest in such an assessment appears to be high, Chester said.About 200,000 students in nine states - Kent

The Courier-Journal reports: (Photo by Michael Clevenger)During the first of two days of interviews, Berman, 58, superintendent of Hudson Public Schools in Massachusetts, answered questions from Greater Louisville Inc., the Jefferson County Public Education Foundation and the 15th District PTA Board.Later, he took part in a large community forum inside Durrett Auditorium at JCPS Gheens Academy."I really liked what he had to say about the importance of arts in education, but it concerned me when he said that he wouldn't have a plan coming in (to the district)," Kaileigh said. "I did admire the fact that he admitted that he would have a lot to learn if he came here. I think it takes a lot of strength for a person to admit that."Berman said he was intrigued by the questions the day brought and the people he met."This is a wonderful community and a wonderful school district," Berman said after the forum. "I have done enough research into it to know that there are a lot of advantages here;

Back in December 2004, M-mv was named a finalist in the Best of Blogs category "Best Literary/Book Blog." Through the virtual competition I discovered two excellent blogs: Magnificent Octopus and The Sheila Variations. Although I don't keep a blogroll, I have, in the intervening two years, repeatedly recommended and linked these sites because I admire them both.Well, today, in my virus-weakened state, I was reduced to tears by one of the aforementioned bloggers.Many thanks for getting it, Sheila.

Once again, I must ask for your support.
Voting is now on for the next week, and I’d be eternally grateful if you’d head over and cast your vote.
I’ll report back with the winners once the votes are tallied.

November Sunset Path Through the Marsh Cedars and Seagulls A few weeks ago I sent in my entries for the Paint America Top 100 Competition. For this competition artists submit landscapes representing a state, it could be their home state but it doesn't have to be. Finalists are chosen from each state. There is a category for large paintings and another for smaller size works. From the group of finalists 2 paintings are chosen from each state and thus you have Americas Top 100 landscapes, 2 representing each state. This exhibit of the top 100 landscapes will travel around the country for the next year. Yesterday I received a letter saying that all three of my entries had made it to the "finalist" category. WOW I never expected that!! I don't know if any of my pieces will be chosen to represent Connecticut, but I'm pleased to have been a finalist!!

The press release concludes by listing other awards the Tribeca has received, such as hig
