World Wide Web Is Fifteen Years Old Today: Salute to Online Journalism
The World Wide Web is celebrating it's fifteenth birthday today. If it was a child, it would be kicking litter around the street and jumping on fences. One key feature of the growth of the World Wide Web is online journalism, an area of the media I am hoping to have a career in.Why is online journalism so important?1. Online journalism is global. As long as my erratic Digital Village internet connection is working, I can read blogs and journalism from anywhere in the world. I can watch the Daily Show online from America. Compare this with the restrictions on DVD's (including the PAL/NTSC clash) or the small number of shops stocking foreign newspapers (which are usually expensive).2. Online journalism offers more than one way to tell a story. You can embed audio or video or even both in a we

      Eight will get you fifteen
Which will mean about eight again. You try and ignore this stuff for as long as you can, but when a German court rules that a woman who killed eight (maybe nine) of her newborn babies and buried them in flower pots in the garden of her parents’ home got sentenced to sage und schreibe (believe it or not) fifteen whole years of prison (which will break down to about half of that, of course), well, you really do start to wonder if something very strange is maybe not going on here after all. About one year for each baby killed? Not bad. The latest baby killing the other day is just another in a very long line of recent infant murders which have practically all taken place in Germany’s Wild East. And when the Minister President of Saxony-Anhalt (himself an “Easterner”) suggested that

Someone please stop the clock! In honor of Hayden's 15th birthday, here are 15 bits of trivia about my boy:1. Hayden was my biggest baby, tipping the scales at 9 lbs. 1/2 ounce. 2. I went natural, but don't be impressed--I didn't want to. I was begging for an Epidural but the Anesthesiologist didn't make it in time. :(3. The first thing I recall the nurse saying when he was born was, "Would you look at the dimples on that boy?" When she handed him to me, it was love at first sight.4. Fifteen (A.K.A. Hillside)
Fifteen was a teen drama that aired on Nickelodeon in the early nineties. I have a few vague memories of it, but other than the theme music and some minor details, most are a blur, so I decided to do a little research. So it turns out that Fifteen is the American title. The show's real name is Hillside and it's Canadian. And... that's about all of the information I managed to find.Let me tell you, the utter crappiness of this show was definitely lost on me at seven years old. It's hilariously cringeworthy. After watching the actress that plays Courtney, I understand where the creators of South Park get that Canadian flapping head stereotype. Here's a full episode. I did post an extra clip of the theme song, since it was cut out of the video, but it's been taken down from Youtube. Enjoy!Oh y

The Times, which had 1.02 million readers in 1992, now has 1.74 million — an increase of 69 per cent. The figures were produced by the National Readership Survey on behalf of a Lords committee investigating media ownership. Overall the proportion of all adults reading a newspaper fell from 59 per cent to 45.1 per cent. In absolute terms, that equates to a loss of five million people, from 26.7 million. The website that I have created as part of Webdesign is tied in to this-people are getting their news from alternate sources such as free newspapers or blogs. One thing should be impartedThe figures did not take into account the readership of the papers' online sites.

Do Accidents Tamper with your "Fifteen Minutes of Fame" Karma?
When you work on live television broadcasts, things will always go wrong. The worst part about live is that when the wrongness happens, your entire viewing audience will notice. The "best" part is that when you goof off with a studio camera, be prepared to be on the air whether you want to be or not. This very thing happened to me yesterday on our station's locally produced talk show. Sam (last name withheld) the hand held operator was shooting me (the stage manager) just before the tease that would send us to commercial break. It was all in fun when--oops! The technical director punched the wrong camera (Sam's), putting my mug up on the air for the whole state of Utah to see. I'm sure some head scratching went on as I looked into the camera and nodded approvingly (not to mention what that lower-third banner had to do with me).Complete disaster was averted as I did nothing embarrassing. When a camera points your way, it's always tempting to do something idiotic that you assume only

      Fifteen random things about me
      1. I’m in a book club. Once a month, a group of us get together at someone’s house for food and drinks and some book discussion. I don’t always read the books because I don’t really go for the books. I just need the break! This month we are reading Wife in the Fast Lane and I plan to read it. 2. I love pedicures. I had to take my mom to the eye doctor the other day. On the way home, my son fell asleep in the car. I dropped my mom off at her house and carried my sleeping boy in to her house too. I ran out to get a pedicure. 3. I suck at food shopping. Going to the grocery store is a chore for me, yet I find myself planning when I have to go. It gets me out of the house sometimes and once I’m there I guess I don’t mind it so much. I hardly ever go with a list. My husband complains that I don’t buy anything he likes, but he doesn’t give me any suggestions. There are lots of snacks in our house!!! 4.  I hate exercising. I have a gym membersh
