The amazing bassist Dean Ferrell will be doing a solo bass performance in Berlin on Tuesday, November 6th, and any bassists , students, teachers, and fans of amazing double bass performance art should consider attending if they can make it. We blogged an hour-long video of Dean Ferrell performing as Captain Tobias Hume (footage from the most recent International Society of Bassists convention) a couple of weeks ago, but this item is just too amazing to leave in the archives. This video defies description. It is an hour long double bass performance/speech/dramatization featuring double bassist Dean Ferrell as Captain Tobias. This is a one person show of epic proportions--strange, compelling, and totally hilarious. Dean Ferrell went to school at Juilliard with Greg Sarchet, studying with David Walter, and also working with Bert Turetzky. Ausberto Acavedo (who was at the last International Society of Bassists convention representing the podcast) recently saw him in concert--I hope that I get to check him out live sometime soon as well!
