Celebrated American journalist I.F. Stone, who died in 1989, is best remembered for his “‘journalistic integrity” and supposed willingness to speak truth to power. Yet few of his readers ever realized he was a committed Zionist Jew -- real name Isador Feinstein -- as can be seen in this 2006 book review by Christopher Hitchens. “Because so many bon...
While the major festivities don’t get underway until this Sunday evening, the 2008 MTV Movie Awards pre-parties have already started out in Los Angeles, California. Click the post title. Seriously. I've always wanted to declare for the NBA but I was under the impression that it cost money. Like $50 or $100 or something. I never did get around to doing it. But Zach Feinstein did. Just sit back and hope that he gets drafted on accident. Or on purpose but I highly doubt it.

Is anyone really surprised that Mukasey is trying to delay congressional inquiries into the CIA’s destruction of interrogation videotapes? Or that the DOJ is trying to get U.S. District Judge Henry H. Kennedy to “stay out of the matter”
Mukasey is nothing more than another Alberto Gonzales, but this time, with some intelligence.
Back in November I wrote 2 articles, Senator Dianne Feinstein Caves In To Bush and Senator Dianne Feinstein Failed Us!, concerning Senator Dianne Feinstein capitulating to the Bush Administration and warning that the ethics, principles, and values of the DOJ under Michael Mukasey would be no different than under Alberto Gonzales.
His approval by the Senate Judiciary Committee is due solely because you abandoned your constituents, the people of California, to support him along with Senator Schumer from New York.
I sent you emails imploring you to reject the nomination of Mukasey, and your response?
Dear Mr. S……..:
Thank you for w
A few months ago, I wrote an open letter to Diane Feinstein after she voted in favor of giving the Bush Administration expanded power to spy on Americans. I couldn’t figure out why, as a highly respected Democrat, Diane Feinstein would be so willing to go along with the Bush Administration’s policies. After all, it wasn’t the first time she had voted with the neo-conservatives. She voted in favor of giving President Bush the authority to attack Iraq in 2002. She voted for the Patriot Act. She voted to extend the Patriot Act. She voted in favor of condemning MoveOn.org, and in effect her Democratic base, for questioning the motives of General Petreaus. She voted in favor of confirming Michael Mukasey as Attorney General, even though he made it quite clear he would bend the rules for the Bush Administration. As a Democrat, why would she do these things? It turns out that she may be going along with Bush Administration policies because she is, for all intents and purposes, a lot
The other day I promised to have a post about my corrupt Senator, Diane Feinstein. I'm working on it (and finding out some fascinating things) but I won't be able to get it out this week. Expect it sometime next week, after the Thanksgiving holiday but before Congress resumes (it must be nice having two full weeks off for Thanksgiving, huh?).Sorry for the delay. It will be worth it - I promise.

Our Senator, Dianne Feinstein, has been ignoring us for far too long. She has voted again and again and again to enable the worst elements of Bush policy: war, torture, racism, homophobia. I’ve had enough of my representative in Washington ignoring me. Let’s do what we have to do to hold the Senator accountable for her actions. Failure:
On an 11-8 vote, with two Democrats joining all nine Republicans, the committee sent President George W. Bush’s nomination of Mukasey to the full Democratic-led Senate for anticipated confirmation as chief U.S. law enforcement officer. The vote is likely to take place next week.
Contrary to what Senator Schumer would have you believe, a vote for Mukasey is a vote for torture. Not surprisingly, Schumer and Feinstein were the offenders.
The two committee Democrats who voted for Mukasey were Charles Schumer of New York, who had suggested Bush nominate the former judge as attorney general, and Dianne Feinstein of California.
In California and New York, two of the bluest states in the country, Democratic Senators are voting with Republicans on key matters of national importance. Shameless.

Late Friday My Senator, Dianne Feinstein, along with Senator Chuck Schumer caved in to Bush's hissy fit over the nomination of Michael Mukasey as Attorney General. They even waited until LATE Friday afternoon, usually when the Bush Administration releases embarrassing news they want to bury, to announce their capitulation and support of Mukasey. The “Great Decider” played his 9-11 fear mongering again, “Approve Mukasey or we will all die, and it will be all your fault”.
“The job of Attorney General is essential to the security of America”…”Some in Washington should spend more time responding to the warnings of terrorists like Osama bin Laden, and the requests of our commanders on the ground, and less time responding to the demands of MoveOn.org bloggers and Code Pink protesters.”
I guess the “Great Decider” has decided the Code Pink ladies are a threat to Bush’s false and misleading sense of National Security.

Senator Feinstein,I've been paying close attention to the developments regarding Micheal Mukasey and his confirmation hearing. After watching both days of the hearing in full and reading his clarification letter to the Judiciary Committee, I'm terrified of him becoming the next Attorney General. The waterboarding thing is bad enough, but please don't forget that he also said he would not recommend that the President grant habeas corpus rights, which basically throws the 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th amendments to the Constitution out the window. While, based on your voting record, you may agree with him on the intelligence issues (which I personally do not), the physical abuse he condones inflicting upon other human beings and the disregard for the Constitution is more than enough reason to stop his confirmation to be the top lawyer for the United States.I know that you are on the Judiciary Committee and your vote is going to be crucial in the matter of whether or not his confirmation will m
Oh my God. You did it again.Yesterday you voted Yea on the Lieberman/Kyl amendment, which basically calls Iran's military a terrorist organization and informally declares war on their country.I'm confused by your vote. Don't you remember how the Iraq war started? Let me remind you:While the media was airing program after program aimed to get the American people to see Iraq as a enemy which needed to be destroyed as soon as possible, Congress gave the irresponsible President Bush the authorization to use force against Saddam Hussein. Many Congressional Representatives believed he wouldn't use it, but needed the authority to use as leverage to stop Saddam from developing more weapons of mass destruction. They were wrong. The Bush administration pulled the inspectors and went to war, even though they knew there were no weapons of mass destruction and that Iraq posed no immediate threat to the United States.Five years, 455 billion dollars, 1 million dead Iraqis, 3,801 dead soldiers, 27,
While a number of Democrats have caused frustration among liberals for their voting records, with the move by Joe Lieberman to independent status the worst example may very well be Diane Feinstein. While she might not have the worst record among Democrats, but what makes her remarkable is that she comes from a state such as California where there is no need for her to be, as Glenn Greenwald called her, “the drained and Bush-enabling face of the 2007 Democratic Congress.”
Glenn Greenwald outlined many of the problems in Feinstein’s voting record:
…her votes over the last several years, and especially this year after she was safely re-elected, are infinitely closer to the Bush White House and her right-wing Senate colleagues than they are to the base of her party or to the constituents she allegedly represents. Just look at what she has done this year on the most critical and revealing votes:
* Voted in FAVOR of funding the Iraq War without conditions;* Voted in

Senator Feinstein,I am ashamed to call you my representative. What exactly was going through your head when you voted to allow the President to violate the Bill of Rights and eavesdrop on whomever he chooses? You do remember the Bill of Rights, don't you? I ask because the 4th Amendment guarantees "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures". I just don't understand how you can take a oath to defend the Constitution of the United States, and then legislate that it may be violated by the President. I find it hard, if not impossible, to believe that an educated woman like yourself could be blind to the law breaking of this administration. You are on the judiciary committee for God's sake! You have seen Alberto Gonzales commit perjury time and time again, yet you have done nothing to remove him from office. The President's staff members have defied Congress in the most despicable manner possible by no
What will our leaders in Washington think of next? We all know they’re up there in Washington, alternating between adrenalin and Zen, zooming around to meetings and trying to think of good things to do for all U.S. citizens.
One of those good things relates to an issue many politicians get a little squeamish over. Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.) appeared on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. And so did Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.).
I read the transcript of the two senators’ remarks at the Fox News Web site. Lott had already said, earlier this week, “Talk radio is running America.” He followed that statement with, “We have to deal with that problem.” Wallace quizzed Lott about those statements.
Lott dodged the quiz. He explained he’d been on a radio program and tried to explain the proposed immigration bill. It’s a complicated bill. “A lot of moving parts.” And it’s hard to get that across on talk radio—“It’s not that they’re maliciously trying to, you
It appears as though Dianne Feinstein may be in more trouble than originally believed. Of course the only reason she is still a senator is because she is a Democrat. A Republican would have already been forced to resign.
If you havent been following the story:
Part one
Part two
Part three
Part four
Here is the latest part in this saga.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein may have had as much of a financial interest in two defense contractors as her husband who controlled them, according to California law.
The state’s “community property law” could be relevant at a time when the senior Democratic senator from California is facing allegations of a conflict of interest and growing calls for an inquiry.
The “community property” law in force in California says that any income earned, assets obtained or debts incurred by either partner during a marriage belongs to both partners.
She funneled millions of dollars to her husband’s company. While that’s bad enough, s
You can read the first three parts here, here, and here.
You can read the latest about her corruption scandal here. Maybe this story is finally going to pick up some speed, but I doubt it. If she was a Republican she would already have been forced to resign from the senate not just her sub committee amid the outcry of the Democrats and the so called Republican culture of corruption. But she is a Democrat so she would never knowingly funnel millions of dollars to her husbands company.
YEAHHH RIIIIIGHT.
Excerpts from the article:
If the inferences finally coming out about what she did while on Milcon prove true, she may be on the way to morphing from a respected senior Democrat into another poster child for congressional corruption.
A Democrat as the poster child of the culture of corruption? They will never let this happen, she will somehow be turned into a victim. Democrats are above this type of behavior. Aren’t they?
it appears Sen. Feinstein was up to her ears in the same sort of
As you can see here,Sen.Dianne Feinstein is denying any wrongdoing in her role on the senate subcommittee on military construction appropriation. Now, shouldn’t the Democrats follow the precedent they are setting with Alberto Gonzalez? They admitted no wrong was committed by the firing of the attorneys, but want to hold hearings anyway, just to try and nail someone on a perjury charge.
So, even if Sen. Feinstein has committed no wrongdoing, she needs to be investigated.

Report documents military contracts for firms owned by senator’s husband
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., has abruptly walked away from her responsibilities with the Senate Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee after a report linked her votes to the financial well-being of her husband’s companies, which received billions of dollars worth of military construction contracts she approved.
As reported in Metroactive, an online report from the Silicon Valley, Feinstein’s resignation followed six years of subcommittee work during which time her alleged conflict of interest stemmed from her husband Richard C. Blum’s ownership of Perini Corp. and URS Corp.
Feinstein, chairman and ranking member of the subcommittee, regularly reviewed and accepted contracts from her husband’s companies for not only construction work for military bases, but also addressing “quality of life” issues for the veterans of the United States military services.

"Mr. President, I rise today to introduce legislation to allow the Los Angeles World Airports to provide the Lennox and Inglewood School Districts, which lie directly in the Los Angeles International Airport's flight path, with noise reduction funds. Currently, an airplane flies a few hundred feet above the Lennox and Inglewood schools about every three minutes. The noise is deafening. It rattles windows, disrupts lessons, and makes it very difficult for these students to learn."--March 27, 2007.
