Providing Bird Houses for Feathered Friends
Many people enjoy animals of avian nature. There’s something about the natural ability to fly that captures the human imagination. Birds come in many colors, arrayed in nature’s beautiful, and sometimes extravagant, plumage. Whether you want to provide bird houses for non-domestic birds, or whether you provide bird cages for the accommodation of birds in your home, there are many ways to provi

      Feathered Dreams
Ever since I was little, or when ever the Disney movie came out, I wanted to be Pocahontas. My parents bought me the cassette, yes, cassette, of the soundtrack and I would listen to it every night while I tried to go to sleep— I don’t think I ever made it past “Just Around the [...]

Winter Gardening - Charm Your Feathered Friends
I was helping a friend rearrange her kitchen and found a box of hummingbird seed and as I stuck it away in the cupboard with the summer items, I got thinking about winter birds. My backyard looks rather barren right now and a flash of color and life would add so much to it. There's a front picture window that overlooks the deck and the bare brown yard behind that. I never thought about birds in the winter before. My neighbor has a bunch that hover around a big tree that she hangs suet balls on but it's not near a window. As a storm threatens I think about how the birds who are not migratory might be willing to come and visit in exchange for some berries and seeds. I can sit in the living room and watch them. But, where do I begin?First I need a bird feeding station. Then I need food. Apparently birds like and need fatty foods so that they can keep up their body temperature which is 108 F°. The usual sources of fatty foods for birds are suet and peanut butter. Suet balls are available

      Feathered gifts
As holidays are few days ahead I'm sure you made a shopping list or even bought some gifts. But if you're like me and leave everything for the last minute here is some shopping ideas for your fashion loving girl friends: feather accessories. You know feather is a big trend for this season and will continue to be next spring too, but a big garment piece like those Prada coats covered in feathers will look at least awkward. So think of embracing this trend with small accessories like bracelets, headbands or tiny party purses. Your friends will love you (at least this Christmas). read more

      Velociraptor, The Feathered Dinosaur
One of the most famous of all dinosaurs is the vicious Velociraptor, the "swift plunder." Velociraptor is a small dinosaur compare to the more familiar, fictional version of the dinosaur made for the blockbuster hit film Jurassic Park. In the film, Velociraptor is portrayed as a 12 ft tall Deinonychus look-a-like covered with lizard scales. But in reality, it is now known and confirmed that this 6 ft long, 3 ft tall dinosaur had feathers on its body just like many other dinosaurs such as Meilong, Dilong, Sinosauropteryx, Mononychus, Sinornithosaurus, and Confuciusornis has according to this latest news report just put out by BBC NEWS. Feathered, Furred and Finned
Guest Post by Veronica from Sleepless Nights Or an alternate title - 'Weird Foods I have Eaten' I didn't have a conventional upbringing. I haven't really talked about what my childhood much yet (aside from saying that I had a good one), but I plan to go into it soon. You can visit me on my very own blog, Sleepless Nights. Firstly I feel the need to mention that I am Australian and we eat our national coat of arms - the kangaroo and the emu. I do NOT condone animal cruelty in any way and I feel that no animal should be killed unless it is for food. I can't stand the thought of people shooting something and not eating it. Like I said I had a unconventional childhood and for alot of it, money was scarce. We always had plenty to eat though, thanks to my father's great hunting skills. So without further ado I have eaten- Kangaroo/Wallaby - You never would have guessed right? I prefer wallaby over beef any day. It is delicious! Pidgeon - Oh my, pidgeon....*drools* Baked pidg

      My Feathered Friend from Aruba
My other friend, the pelican, I like better, because he is a bird, and I love birdies! Mom said the pelicans were constantly swooping down into the water to catch fish. Each pelican had a seagull hovering over their heads to scavenge and catch scraps of fish.

Here are some more pictures from the zoo that I found while snooping through the Tall One's hard drive. I wish she had taken Miss Prissy and me along to sit on the branches and chat with the other birds for a while.

      Colin Stewart Feathered Pumps
This is one of my rare purchases from the Victoria’s Secret catalogue. I have never been a fan of their quality, but I just fell in love with these shoes, and they weren’t much of an investment - $68, I believe. I’m a big feathers fan. Not that obnoxious maribou that pops up on trophy wife negligees or explodes around prom season. I like real feathers. There is something very alluring about them. Perhaps they remind me of classic burlesque dancers. But whatever it is, I adore them as accents. The shoes are certainly not the most comfortable in the world. They aren’t bad though. A pair of Dr. Scholl’s gel pads are a life saver. But the way the feathers sweep forward onto my ankle makes it all worth it. They are wonderfully unique and get almost as much attention as my blindingly-bright Moschino sequined pumps. Call me a pessimist, but I don’t expect these to last long.

      Feathered Friends and Lists
< Recently visiting the National Wildlife Refuge that is very close to where I live, I snapped this shot of a hawk. The photo of the owl I took in my back yard. The owl lives in a stand of old eucalyptus trees and he was uncharacteristically on the ground one day fussing at my dog Merlin (named for the engine, not the wizard). When I went to the bird refuge Merlin was not allowed to ride along. Much better all around. If I took Merlin to the bird refuge there would be the certainty a park ranger would report me, put me on a list. Then in the wonderful bureaucratic machinery of the government, lists would be switched, and I would end up on a no-fly list. I would be at an airport somewhere trying to explain that they had the wrong list. There were some large birds there that Merlin would want to bark at. Sandhill Cranes. And some really large birds I couldn't find in my bird books at all and my sister and I decided were Pterodactyls. Well, maybe not. But I still haven't identified th
