I was reading some news on the Internet tonight and came across this article about a blogger from Kabul, Afghanistan, who is a, lone, independent voice in the country. He blogs his thoughts and feelings about the country in spite of threats of violence. He has been even been jailed for expressing his views, his name is Nasim Fekrat. Here's an excerpt from his blog: "When I was very young

Based on a true story, Jet Li’s ‘Fearless’ tells the life of legendary martial arts master Huo Yuanjia.
Deeply humiliated by his father’s death in a public duel, a young Huo resolves to become the best fighter he can be. But soon his incredible fighting skills cost him the lives of the people he loves most [...]
Sam, during our Sunday Service, asked the questions: "What are your fears?" I immediately started thinking in my head - "yeah, what is it that I am afraid of?"Death? - Not for me. At least not exactly. I am not afraid for myself to die, for I know that to live is Christ and to die is gain.... but ... in a way I fear death because of the thought "who then will take care of my kids if I die?"Deeper self examination revealed that most of my fears are "family related", especially related to my kids. It does not help that many of the news today consists of crimes, accidents, doom and gloom.I am constantly praying that nothing bad will happen to my kids and my family, that they would be safe from harm. I am constantly praying that they will make good decisions; that they will choose wisely. An

A woman traveled by plane with her infant daughter. When they landed, they were met in the waiting area by her father, who took the baby while she proceeded to the baggage claim area. Standing there alone waiting to claim her luggage, she was absent-mindedly holding the baby's pacifier. She noticed a flight attendant staring at her, then at the pacifier in her hand. The flight attendant finally spoke: "Excuse me, Miss. Is this your first flight?" Fear of flying has kept many people home. One woman reminds me that her terror of riding in airplanes actually has biblical roots. "We should be wary of flying," she asserts. "In the Bible, Jesus says, 'LO...I'll be with you always'"! Other common fears have kept countless people from enjoying life fully. Some of the greatest fears we share are

During the struggle with Philip the Fair, Count Guy of Flanders, although supported by the guilds and by Edward I of England, was made a prisoner. In retaliation the people of Bruges massacred all Frenchmen in the city. Philip sent in a strong army to subdue the rebels. On July 11, 1302, in the Battle of the Golden Spurs at Courtrai (Kortrijk), however, the French were defeated by the Flemish militia. The result of this victory was the emancipation of Flanders. It also barred the road to the Rhine, so far as France was concerned. France now tried to bring about, through a policy of matrimonial alliances, that which she had not been able to achieve by force. To this end Charles V of France secured for his brother, Philip the Bold, Duke of Burgundy ( 1384-1404), the hand of the rich heiress,

The saddest part about your observation is that many folks live "hanging out" rather than "working out" not just in the gym but in other areas of their lives. Unfortunately, the clock ticks away and not much is accomplished. I always say "Use Your Time Wisely" but some refuse to listen. Michael Jordan, Lance Armstrong, Serena Williams, Tiger Woods and Hishiro Suzuki did NOT get to the top by "hanging out" did they?
Great piece. Oh, so true so true.
Wonderfully optimistic way of living a life of greatness.
Your message echos many of my own thoughts and beliefs, and after years of teaching "positive thinking and positive behavior" I have begun to see the clear results. The more people spreading the message, the better it will be for those around us. :)
Jessica Simpson’s boyfriend Tony Romo says her love has made him ’’fearless.’’ The American football star was honored at Cosmopolitan magazine’s Fun Fearless Male of the Year Awards yesterday (March 03, 2008) alongside Jessica’s ex-boyfriend John Mayer and one-time rumored beau Dane Cook, and was quick to point out the link between the nominees. He quipped: “I was thinking, you have me, John Mayer and Dane Cook. If you date Jessica Simpson, I guess you’re fun and fearless! Jessica and I don’t usually have conversations about how fun and fearless I am, but I’m a pretty fun guy. I joke a lot.” Tony denied rumors the pair - who have been dating since last November - are planning to tie the knot, saying he wants to get married, but not yet. He said: “It’s just rumor
Tony Romo recently said that dating Jessica Simpson makes you “fun and fearless”. Whatever the hell that means… “I was thinking, you have John Mayer, Dane Cook,” he said. “If you date Jessica Simpson, I guess you’re fun and fearless.”That’s because Jessica Simpson’s vagina is probably lined with silk and her breasts taste like honey. Romo’s remarks come after he spent a lowkey weekend with Simpson. On Saturday night, she gave him a lap dance at club Villa in Hollywood.Since when is getting a lapdance from Jessica Simpson a “lowkey weekend”?! What the hell is exciting for this guy? If I had a weekend where Jessica gave me a lapdance it would pretty much be the weekend of the year. Hell, I’ll settle for a regular lapdance from a one armed midget stripper at

When the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 pairings were drawn, this site offered a preliminary forecast, with a promise to revisit the matter closer to kick off. That time is now. Our main guide is still the Top 25 ranking of the world's soccer clubs, (the number in parentheses is the team's corresponding ranking this week; the first leg's home teams are listed first):Liverpool (unranked) vs. Inter Milan (1)Tuesday, 2:30pm EST (ESPN2)Most audiences in the U.S. will get this one tomorrow. A shame, because it's sure to be a blowout. Inter have better players at virtually every position, with Fernando Torres really the only Red capable of starting for the Milan side. To make matters worse, Reds just suffered a new low this weekend, when they lost at home to Barnsley in the FA Cup. Roberto Ma

It's time for the first-ever Soccer Source Fearless Forecast, as we zero in on the just-drawn UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match-ups. Our main guide will be the Top 25 ranking of soccer clubs, a season-long work-in-progress that attempts to gauge the standings of the best club teams in the world. The assumption here is that the Top 25 ranking--due to its superior use of data-mining and keen insight--is roughly accurate and as such a reliable prognosticator. A flawed assumption? You bet, but so too are all forecasts as well as all assumptions (remember that when you ASSume you make an ass out of you and me). Onward:Schalke (ranked 23 at time of this writing) vs. Porto (6)The German side just made their debut on the list, and to much contention at that. Readers made some excellent points as to why the Gelsenkircheners don't belong. Their issues will be addressed in Monday's Top 25 but for now the point is that Schalke look far inferior to their Portuguese opponents. Forecast: Por
Yahoo says they didn't tweak the brain. Rather, they eliminated certain nasal cells that alert mice that inherently scary cats are nearby. Without those cells, the brain doesn't get the message to be afraid. So the mice pal around with the cats, until the cats get bored. The article seems to say that with more research, we could cure fear. That would be great for people who are pathologically afraid.
Our Hoosiers host everyone’s favorite team, the Kentucky Wildcats, tomorrow afternoon in Assembly Hall.
It’ll be the first appearance for Big Blue in Assembly Hall in 17 years. That meeting saw a No. 7 Hoosier team hold off the pesky Wildcats, 87-84.
There’s a saying that anything can happen in a rivalry game, but make no mistake about it: Indiana is 20-0 at Assembly Hall under Kelvin Sampson, they’re more talented and the fans expect to win this game.
With that said, here are three keys to the game for each team:

- Keep Patrick Patterson involved and out of foul trouble: Kentucky is rail thin in the frontcourt and they must have a spectacular effort from their prized freshman if they plan to pull off the upset. Patterson is one of the top 10 freshmen in the country and is surprisingly polished inside the paint. The Hoosiers will probably rotate D.J. White, Mike White, Lance Stemler and DeAndre Thomas on Patterson to try to wear him down. If he can stay

In these pictures you can see willow tit birds (Poecile montana). It was amazing to see how fearless these birds are. I could stand 1 meter away from the willow tit and photograph it. I was even able to use my flash, as they got used to it after a couple of shots. I have to try if they will eat from my hand.
Notice the falling sunflower seed in bottom left corner of the first picture. The willow tit kept filling it’s small beak with lots of seeds, but some fell out
I have been observing the birds as they hide seeds so they food during the winter. I been reading about the black capped chickadee (a bird living on the American continent that look very much like the willow tit) and it’s said that it can remember thousands of hiding spots. I wouldn’t be surprised if the willow tit have the same capability.
The nature is amazing

I decided to give Neil an extra nifty welcome home this evening. I wanted him to walk up the stairs and be dazzled by the shine of an incredibly clean upstairs (I don't want to talk about the basement, okay?). I tidied. I dusted. I scrubbed. And then? I vacuumed.Upon seeing me pull out the vacuum, Emma and Becca immediately became excited. Plugging in the cord is tantamount to saying "Wanna play a game?" They started squealing and running around the house, Emma shouting out gleefully, "Wanna get me, Mommy? You gunna get me?"I reflected on how happy I was to have taught my children not be afraid. Since they were very, very young, I would start grinning and laughing as I pulled out the vacuum each day. I'd use my "Now isn't this fun?" voice, and tickle them as I chased them around whatever house or apartment we happened to be living in.I realized tonight that despite being a wee bit on the paranoid/neurotic side myself, I've somehow managed to raise up two incredibly brave

Punk Goes Acoustic 2 is a compilation album, one of the Punk Goes... series on the Fearless Records record label, featuring previously unreleased songs from various punk rock bands. It follows Punk Goes Acoustic released in 2003.Punk Goes Acoustic 2 CD harmoniously delivers great music for punk and acoustic lovers. Most of the songs show an outstanding vocals. I can still remember the shimmering voice of Jack's Mannequin on the track called "Bruised". Although some songs were a bit of emo like "Three Cheers for Five Years" by Mayday Parade and "Baby, Come On" by (+44), they played well in my ears. "Who I Am Hates Who I've Been" by Relient K and "The Only Song" by Sherwood are the two of my best tracks in this album. My one month listening to this Punk Goes Acoustic 2 album is not enough. Better get your copy now. :)I recommend this CD to Unplugged music lovers too!"Punk Goes Acoustic 2" Track listing:1. "Bruised" - Jack's Mannequin2. "Don't Be So Hard" - theAUDITION3. "Baby, Come O

This video shows why Valeze is my favorite under-the-radar band. Here they are performing "Go Go Go" on Fearless TV, a local show in New York that I wish was available in StL. It's a great performance, very Clash-sounding. Tiffany Randol is amazing, and I hope Valeze can achieve some alt-rock fame in the future.

I've been tagged by my dear friend Nancy. Our friendship started years ago, when we were both married, childless and trying to have little blessings of our own...Real Moms are fearless and are fearful.Real Moms fiercely protect their children. They don't take any crap when anyone, friend or stranger, looks to harm their child. And they fear that it could happen to their babies anyway.Real Moms step up and stand up for their children, whether it be because of a mean child at school or at the park, or an adult who belittles the child. And they fear that their children will be ignored by teachers and other kids, passed over when sides are chosen for a game, or avoided by the popular kids. Or even ignored by other family members. And that their children will be upset and disappointed. And Real Moms worry that they won't be able to comfort their children enough when it counts.Real Moms do the very best they can for their children. Working a couple more hours so she can afford

President Bush: “Some reports are issued and just gather dust. And truth of the matter is, a lot of reports in Washington are never read by anybody. To show you how important this one is, I read it, and our guest read it. The Prime Minister read — read a report prepared by a commission.”
This was said moments before he rejected major portions of the report. Get em’ Tex.

Last night I ate some new food. I'm fearless when it comes to new grub, but this was particularly difficult. They called them rocky mountain oysters but they ain't seafood. They were actually pretty tasty, but I worry about the karma associated with my actions, especially if the bulls come looking for what was missing.Anyway...The landscape we flew over today is like the surface of the moon. Beautiful, but stark. Did 6 hours of flying today, a couple of which were sneaking through some really rough air. The sky was clear but the jetstream was being ornery, twisting this way and that through the flight levels. People ahead of us were complaining bitterly about the ride, and we started to get constant moderate chop. Moderate turbulence is when we can still control the airplane just fine, but we are pressed against our seatbelts firmly due to the bumps. Then an MD-82 just ahead of us reported severe turbulence just under us, so that got our attention pretty fast. I wonder what s
Now that the sun is out again, the snow is melting and Colorado is once again smiling it's time to get out and move. I feel very blessed to live in an area where I can take walks and not be afraid to be outside in the dark of night or before the sun rises. Maybe it is foolhardy on my part but it works for me. I guess it's about fearless living… going forward and encountering what's in my path. It's either that or avoiding new experiences and hiding behind "what if's" … now what fun is that? I suppose the most destructive thing about "what if…" is when it comes true. Then what? You were right to be fearful, right? No, of course not.I think that there is something we all fear whether we announce it or not. Whether it stemmed from a childhood lack, an adolescent experience, teenage embarrassment, or grownup mistake … it can affect the way we act and react as adults. For instance, as a child if you lived in poverty (or close to it) you may take a high paying jo
