More than 100 NFL players wanted to be on the cover of Madden NFL 09. The man who ended up there couldn't care less about the series. He's too old for Madden now, too (Image credit: Kotaku) Appearing on the cover of Madden NFL franchise is often seen as an honor for many players in the league, but don't tell that to current cover boy Brett Favre he couldn't care less.Favre, who retired at the end of the 2007/2008 season, will be featured on the cover of the latest Madden game as a swan song of sorts to his long running NFL career. Here's what he had to say about the honor in an interview with ESPN:"I'm not savvy enough to play this game. Most of the younger generation has no idea [Madden] coached...Some of our guys play Madden better than they play on Sundays. And they spend more time talk

It’s been announced that Brett Favre will be the coverboy for Madden 2009. Thats whats up.
Thats a great tribute to the recently retired legend. He deserves it but I have a couple of questions.
Since he is on the cover, does that mean that he is going to play next year?
If he doesn’t decide to play, [...]
Brett Favre may have retired from football, but he's still in the game. Brett Favre announcing his retirement According to GameDaily, Brett Favre will be announced as the cover athlete for Madden NFL 09 during his appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman tonight. EA Sports president Peter Moore will conveniently be in attendance.Electronic Arts has previously said it would unveil the cover athlete of the newest Madden on April 25. As reported last month, Madden NFL 09 will launch on all major platforms (excluding PC) on August 12.If/when it happens, it wouldn't be the first time EA has revealed the Madden cover on late-night television. With the emotional roller coaster that is his transition from a Hall-of-Fame career to the uncertainty of life after football not yet over, newly retired quarterback Brett Favre learned today that his legacy will not be joining those of the game's greats in the annals of NFL history in Canton – not anytime soon, not ever. Assuming the calendar's predictions prove to be correct, the world will come to a cataclysmic end on December 23, 2012, just three months before Favre becomes eligible to enter the Hall of Fame. Well, I called something right in this year's NCAA championships. The Lady Vols won their 2nd consecutive title this week with their strong veteran leadership. Candace Parker played with a bumb shoulder, but she used her overall skills to help Tennessee throughout the game. I kinda pictured it...Candace Parker's 2nd consecutive title. Me thinks Candace is probably the best female college player that ever graced the court. I'm hopin' that she can carry over into the WNBA what she's showed in the NCAA.It seems like ol #4 has been going back and forth on his retirement. Recently there has been a small stirrup of whether Brett Favre will actually stay retired. C'mon Brett, you know you want to play. I really wouldn't mind at all if Favre came back and played for the Packers this year. It's fun
So it’s possible that we may see Brett Favre lace em up again for the Packers. He claims that he has no plans on returning but that if the Packers need him to return due to injury or if the situation is right then he might return (he’ll be back).
Here’s an excerpt from the [...]

Argus reported that Green Bay Packers legend Brett Favre broke down crying at his press conference Thursday while announcing his retirement. He was overcome with emotion. Football players might have had to give up Human Growth Hormone but there's no ban on estrogen.
I couldn't end the week without a tribute to Brett Favre's retirement. Here's a few things I came across throughout the week that I thought were too interesting not to share. Here's an article about a couple from Florida who gave birth to twins days before the retirement announcement. The boys' names: Brett and Favre.TIME Magazine paid homage to the King of the Cheeseheads. It was Favre who made me love football and especially the Green Bay Packers. His exuberant love for the game was contagious, and it made those of us from Wisconsin feel like he was one of us. When I told Mia that #4 wouldn't be playing for the Packers any more, her mournful cry echoed that of Packer fans everywhere "We'll never score any points again! I'm gonna miss him!" Amen!

I'm not going to write one of those sappy love letters to Brett Favre that I keep seeing all over the Internet. The fact is, I've never really been a Brett Favre fan. I've always considered him one of the most overrated quarterbacks in the NFL. In fact, I'm convinced that the Packers are better off without him. And trust me, there is a contingent in that organization that agrees; you don't accidentally post his retirement news on your website, then quickly accept his retirement without any effort to talk him out of it if you want him back. After all, his awful game against the Giants cost his team a trip to the Super Bowl. Yes, there was extremely bad weather (understatement of the year), but the game was nothing more than a continuation of Brett Favre's disappointing showings in big

A legend has left us, and the world of football will never be the same. Brett Favre's career and his legacy have been discussed in depth so much everywhere by now, I won't go into great detail. Favre leaves the NFL holding virtually every major statistical mark a quarterback can achieve in all-time career categories, including wins, touchdown passes, and passing yards. While it is possible his numbers will one day be bested, we will not likely see that day come any season soon.Favre was a player like no other and I always hoped that the television scheduling gods would look upon me and grace me with a Packers game. Favre will be sorely missed by the entire state of Wisconsin and his fans the world over, myself included. However, from Favre's position, this was likely going to be his b
Dear Brett Favre, Well, I guess it's official, you've retired from the NFL. It's been a great run-- maybe the best any quarterback has ever had. It's too bad you couldn't go out on your own terms. I'm sure it's not a coincidence that the Green Bay Packers website "accidentally" announced your retirement with a mysterious post that was only online for a few minutes, and then a few days later, you actually retired. You probably wanted to play one more year. Unfortunately, you have to do what the internet says. It's really too bad. One time the internet told me if I didn't forward this one e-mail to ten of my friends, I would have bad luck. Sure enough, six months later I got a flat tire. It took a while, but in the end, the internet was right. You're probably upset that the internet is bos
Brett Favre answered the question everyone was wondering earlier this morning. He has announced his retirement after 17 years in the NFL surprising even his teammates.Favre denies rumors it is because Randy Moss was not courted by the Packers, insisting it is because he ismentally tired. "If I felt like coming back — and Deanna (Favre's wife) and I talked about this — the only way for me to be successful would be to win a Super Bowl," Favre told ESPN. Source: Yahoo
Green Bay, Wis. – Area residents were perplexed and relieved Thursday when they realized Green Bay Packers legend Brett Favre hasn’t actually died.
The apparent confusion stemmed from excessively saccharin media and fan tributes, coupled with the keening mourning call that could be heard echoing through Green Bay Tuesday and Wednesday.
While many realized the deluge [...]
Here’s the voicemail message sent to Chris Mortensen from now retired Brett Favre on the day that he chose to leave the NFL. He speaks about him being tired and it was Superbowl or Bust for him. I don’t think that there will be many like Brett to come along because I don’t know how [...]

Brett Favre announced his retirement yesterday leaving several die hard Favre fans unable to deal. Emotionally, these people should be very worried, but that isn’t the half of it! Financially, the US economy should be the ones that are taken aback by this news!

After 17 good years of playing on the NFL’s Green Bay Packers, quarterback Brett Favre finally decided to retire from the game. The Packers retired quarterback told ESPN today in quote, “I know I can still play, but it's like I told my wife, I'm just tired mentally. I'm just tired.” The legendary three-time MVP has achieved many goals in his career, including over several league records and, this year, setting the most career touchdown passes in the NFL. Just last season, Favre broke Dan Marino‘s career record or most yards in passing and John Elway’s record for most career victories. He also led the Packers to the championship game in January, unfortunately throwing an interception in overtime to give the New York Giants the winning field goal. After giving the news to the world,
Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has decided to retire. “I know I can still play, but it’s like I told my wife, I’m just tired mentally. I’m just tired,” Favre, a 17-year veteran and three-time NFL MVP, told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen in a voice mail message. Reported by ESPN.com
I know I should be covering the Cardinals' Jerame Tuman signing today, but sometimes there are other events that take precedent. One such event would be the retirement of Packers QB Brett Favre after 17 seasons of gunslinging goodness. Favre's agent, Bus Cook (no relation to Bus Bettis), says Favre felt like the Packers didn't want him, and Pro Football Talk muses that Favre may ultimately end up in Miami. Somewhere, Aaron Rodgers waits to see if this retirement is in fact authentic. ESPN's DJ Gallo sought out the big names in football to get their thoughts on today's big news. Everyone from Terrelle Pryor to Cal Ripken pretends to check in. It's a must read. So if you somehow haven't heard the news, Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre will not be returning to the Packers this fall. It was the "news heard round the Midwest" today, seeing as the man is treated, rightfully so, as a god in Wisconsin. The Journal-Sentinel site carried the first "official word" from Favre's agent and it crashed the site. Apparently it needs to invest in better bandwidth. It treated his retirement like a national day of mourning, encouraging fans to write about their Favre memories and featured a banner that said "Brett Favre 1992-2007." I thought at first that he had actually died and not retired. My brother and I traded frantic IM's this morning, trying to find out what's the actual story and then, when we heard, my Buccaneers-fan-brother was able to share his joy ful
Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has decided to retire from the NFL after 17 seasons.
“He has had one of the greatest careers in the history of the National Football League, and he is able to walk away from the game on his own terms— not many players are able to do that,” Packers general manager Ted Thompson said Tuesday.
Favre’s agent Bus Cook said the 38-year-old quarterback told him
According to Sports IllustratedFOX Sports first reported Tuesday that the Green Bay Packers quarterback informed the team in the last few days. ESPN.com said that according to Favre's agent the quarterback told coach Mike McCarthy of his decisionThus ends the career of one of the great quarterbacks in NFL history. Let the debates begin about where he ranks on the list.I remember the first time he played for the Packers after coming over from the Falcons. It was against the Bengals. Don Majkowski got hurt and Favre came off the bench to engineer a come from behind victory against the Bengals. You could see then he had the ability to be a special quarterback. He proved last year he could still play, silencing the doubters after a disastrous season the year before. It's good to see him go out
Well, we knew this was inevitable that the great Brett Favre would announce his retirement after a 17 year run. From his drunken days in Atlanta to his pain pill addictions in Green Bay, he was able to fight those demons to become one the NFL’s most popular QBs ever. 3 time MVP, Super Bowl [...]
Let the Aaron Rogers era begin. According to ESPN Brett Favre is finally going to hang it up. It is kind of shocking considering the run they made. I figured he would give it another shot. Oh well.
As a Vikings fan it is bittersweet to see him go. I always respected him as a player [...]
Couple of local boys from around these parts here in Iowa made the 13 hour trip to Hattiesburg, Miss. to deliver a golf cart to the QB of the Green Bay Packers. Scott Harris was to deliver the custom built golf cart and his buddy went along to “keep him company…” Riiight. [...]
After a very tough NFL football game Thursday night, results were more impressive than we thought. Not only the Cowboys dominated the whole game, but also the Packers lost one of their key players and starting QB: Brett Favre. Favre is injured after this game and it will be hard for him to get back the “starter” position.
With an elbow injury and a separated shoulder, caused by Nate Jones’ hit, Brett Favre had to leave the game on the 2nd quarter and be one more spectator, as Tony Romo took that chance and led the Cowboys to a solid victory 27-37. This proves that there is no way a team like the Green Bay Packers can face Tony Romo without his own star. The bad part is that everyone could see where the Packs’ success is based, and once that is out of the way, they seem more weak and vulnerable.
However, we can’t deny Aaron Rodgers’ performance as the replacement was good enough. He’s not Favre, but did a good try to balance things out for the Packers. But it’
Brett Favre came into this game with an 0-8 Record against Dallas and his losing streak continued in this one with the Cowboys defeating the Packers 37-27. The downpoint of the game for Favre was in the second quarter when he was hit as he was throwing by Nathan Jones and was also intercepted on the play. That may not have been so bad but he was also hurt in the process and did not return.
Aaron Rodgers replaced Favre. He struggled a bit on the first drive but in the end he showed that he was worth being drafted in the first round. Rodgers played stellar, going 18-26 for 201 yards and a TD. He also rushed for a few key first downs.
Tony Romo and Terrell Owens had monster games though both coming up with big plays. Romo went 19-30 for 309 yards and 4 TD’s while Owens had 7 catches for 156 yards and a touchdown. It would have been two touchdowns if it wasn’t for one of the stranger plays I’ve seen. Tony Romo found Owens wide open in the end zone. Owens bobbled
What a shame that Brett Favre was injured and had to leave the Packers game against Dallas. I saw where some of the commentators were being accused of focusing way too much on his injury to the extent that the rest of the game was virtually ignored. Pardon me if I don't mind the extra attention that this player gets! Any and all love and bias sent in the direction of Brett Favre is just fine with me. This shining star straight out of South Mississippi is in my opinion one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time and a good guy to boot! If I had a houseful of baby boys instead of all these girls, I would be on my knees praying each and every night that my sons would follow in his footsteps. Well, actually it would be a tossup between whether I would ask for devine guidance for them to follow the Manning boys or Brett...either would make this SEC loving mama very happy! Some of the blog comments are that the replays of Brett's injury were overplayed and that Grant's touchdown w
The annual Brett Favre retirement talk in the press is starting early, in Detroit. It would be cool to see him come back..I guess. If they could advance further and every AFC city fell of the face of the earth so he could get one more Super Bowl ring.
I have to say I’m pulling for the guy to get one more ring as I have mentioned before. But it would suck for me to devote so much pulling for this season ( with my Saints being crap) if he is just going to keep coming back. this is about me Brett, not you.
“If last season gave me hope, if I felt optimistic after our Chicago game last year at 8-8 and not making the playoffs, sure, I obviously have to feel a little bit better — especially individually,” Favre said.
Still, Favre made it clear that nothing is assured.
“If the season was over today, I could look in a mirror and say, ’You can play. You don’t have to say I think I can. You know you can,’” Favre said. “Now, with each year — and it’d be 18 years
Well Mr. Favre did it again; he torched my Minnesota Vikings. He torched them so good that he earns this weeks Fantasy Football MVP honors.
He helped fantasy owners everywhere with 351 yards passing and 3 touchdowns. This year, stats like those have been common place for Favre and that isn’t likely to change any time soon.
A few other players worth mentioning this week are Terrell Owens with 6 catches, 125 yards, 2 TD’s, Jeremy Shockey 10 catches, 129 yards, a TD and how about Shayne Graham putting up 7 field goals? Damn! Congrats to all of you who started any of these guys.
Anyway, back to Brett. Year after year I have been watching this guy do his thing. On one hand it stinks that he plays for a rival but on the other hand, as a football fan, it is a pleasure to see him work. He’s a great competitor and always seemed like a pretty cool guy. The kind of guy you could sit down and have a beer with.
As always I finish with some video. I usually like to post videos
Favre did it again pulled a little magic out of his pocket and won the game. It’s funny how some of them so called experts still don’t get it,with Favre as the quarter back the Packers can win against anyone. It was a close game and went into overtime well a very short overtime but in the end the Packers still were the leaders in the north.Next week I hear the so called experts are going with the Packers opponent again but that’s ok I think they all got a jinx on anyone they choose to win.
AP - Sep 30, 6:03 pm EDT More Photos MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The record is his, for now, and Brett Favre can return his focus on two other numbers: 4-0. To hear him tell it over and over, this is all he has ever worried about: helping Green Bay win. Favre became the NFL’s all-time leader in career touchdown passes with a couple of vintage third-down zingers Sunday, and the Packers stayed unbeaten with a 23-16 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. “To win, and get this behind us, is more…
Not much else to say. Today is all about you Brett. Youplayed great, we won, and you broke the record. I feel like even this record doesn't do enough to bring attention and respect to you as a player and as a father, husband, and person. Here's to you Brett, next to my father, the man I look up to most. I also want to thank Vikings fans on behalf of Packers and Favre fans everywhere. You handled that situation with the utmost class and respect. I love that and respect you infinitely more than I did yesterday. Thank you.
By Jim Corbett, USA TODAY Think Brett Favre should have retired already? Well think again. While much of Chicago seems to be pleading for Brian Griese to replace mistake-prone starting quarterback Rex Grossman under center for the reigning NFC champion Bears — who now stand at 1-2 after being blown out 34-10 by the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night — the best quarterback and the best team in the NFC North appears to be Favre and coach Mike McCarthy’s 3-0 Green Bay Packers, more…

With a heavy heart the Green Bay Packers got their leader back Thursday, as quarterback Brett Favre returned to the practice field after being absent for the past few days after the death of his wife’s stepfather. Rocky Byrd passed away Saturday after a heart attack, and after hearing of the passing the QB was excused for most of the teams practices this past week to attend services. “As I was flying back up … as much as any other time in my career, I was really, I shouldn’t say excited, but I was ready to get back here and get on with football,” Favre said during his first news conference of training camp. “If I wasn’t playing, retired, and was at home, it would be much more difficult to be in that environment.”
Favre missed Monday and Tuesday’s practices, then was back in Green Bay on Wednesday and that night was watching film at Lambeau Field. The quarterback, never one to hide his thoughts, stated he is not sure exactly what
By Larry Weisman, USA TODAY GREEN BAY, Wis . — Wins and losses matter in the course of his profession. But once again, Brett Favre finds himself more concerned with life and loss. He had barely arrived in northeastern Wisconsin for his 16th training camp with the Green Bay Packers, had practiced just once with his teammates on Saturday afternoon when an equipment manager interrupted a meeting to tell him he had an emergency phone call. He knew. He knew right then. He’d had phone calls like more…
Packers quarterback Brett Favre is done with workouts with the Packers for now, all due to a sore right shoulder. The right throwing shoulder for Favre is going to get a break as he wants to make sure that he does not wear it out for the upcoming training camp in July and the season which starts in September. “I probably could practice, but it really don’t make a lot of sense to go out and make it any worse,” Favre said. “I think it’s probably just tendinitis or something like that.”
Favre did not practice with the Pack Wednesday and Thursday. The longtime quarterback overall has missed seven of the 12 OTA’s since they began three weeks ago. Head coach Mike McCarthy is not concerned about the situation, and thinks that Favre will be ready to go when needed. “The biggest thing we got out of Brett being here No. 1 is to be around the younger guys (and) doing the adjustments we’ve made in our scheme getting ready for the seaso
GREEN BAY, Wis. — Brett Favre was held out of the Green Bay Packers’ practices Wednesday and Thursday because of a sore right shoulder.
“I probably could practice, but it really don’t make a lot of sense to go out and make it any worse,” Favre said. “I think it’s probably just tendinitis or something like that.”
Coach Mike McCarthy said the medical staff doesn’t consider the injury serious.

It seems that Brett now wants to attend mini camp after blowing off the team so that he could prepare for his daughter’s graduation that is A WEEK AFTER CAMP IS OVER!
“They were going to have me sit out anyway,” he said in an article on the paper’s Web site. “To be honest, we have [daughter] Brittany graduating in two weeks. Instead of going up there and not doing anything, I will be better off being at home because of graduation parties and banquets.”
I ain’t got no problems with him wanting to be there for his daughter’s graduation. You can’t get that day back, but the Packers are giving you an ass of money and you have a job to do. If you are healed from your ankle injury, your ass should be out there. What you look like planning balloons, clowns and party favorites, I’m sure your wife and family members can handle that.
Sounds to me that it’s sour grapes over not getting Moss (I still think you got screwed by
Doing an about face, possibly due to the backlash by even his own fans, Packers QB Brett Favre now says he will be at the teams mandatory mini-camp this weekend. The story of the week around the league is how Favre, who reportedly was so upset with the team recently about not trading for Randy Moss that he demanded a trade, was going to miss the camp to rehab his ankle and stay home to assist in plans for his daughter’s upcoming graduation.
While Favre is not going to be able to practice, by all means it is his place to be at the camp. His daughter’s graduation is not until next weekend, and who in their right mind believes that Favre is running around buying party hats and balloons for his little girl’s graduation party? What, no one else but Brett can hit Party City and grab some decorations for the big upcoming celebration of his daughter graduating high school? If nothing else, it just should prove to the Packers they had better think long and hard about that rebu
So now Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre says his emotions got the best of him and he never really wanted to be traded from the Packers anyways, and it was just his competitive nature coming out. All this was brought about by the New England Patriots acquisition of Oakland Raiders wide receiver and NFL “problem child” Randy Moss on draft day. Favre said the deal was a steal and the fact that the Packers did not go after him, showed they weren’t really serious about contending while he is still at the reins on the field. Favre said he did not have time for a five year plan. No kidding Brett, you don’t have time for a one year plan, the fact of the matter is you should have hung it up after the 2004 season.
I have never been one to be afraid to say the emperor wears no clothes, and I am not about to start being tentative about expressing my opinion in this matter. I realize that suggesting that Brett Favre should retire will be considered blasphemy by man
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Brett Favre plans to skip the Green Bay Packers’ mandatory minicamp this weekend, saying the move is not related to his frustration with the team’s unwillingness to complete a trade for wide receiver Randy Moss.
Favre told the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun-Herald that because he is unable to practice while recovering from offseason ankle surgery, he is going to stay home with his family in Mississippi.
“They were going to have me sit out anyway,” Favre said,

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Brett Favre acknowledged his anger over the team’s unwillingness to pull off a trade for wide receiver Randy Moss, but denied Monday he ever really wanted the Green Bay Packers to trade him.
“I was frustrated a couple weeks back when Randy Moss was traded to New England,” Favre said on the Packers’ Web site. “I never wanted to be traded and I don’t want to be traded. I want to be in Green Bay. I want to finish my career as a Packer.”

I’m Sorry Brett Favre, but who exactly are you kidding when you say that you no longer want to be a Green Bay Packer simply because the team didn’t do enough to get troubled wide out Randy Moss after the draft in late April? The story goes that Favre was so mad that the team didn’t do more in trying to get Moss, that he called his agent, who then called Packers GM Ted Thompson, to request a trade a few days after the draft. Thompson, likley in a state of shock and panic, then called coach Mike McCarthy, who later called Favre and calmed his nerves.
The reports say that McCarthy was able to calm Favre down enough to even make him admit that the QB does not want to play elsewhere. Well, this is not much news, as the last time I checked - Bret Farve IS the Green Bay Packers. No doubt when you ask just about anyone to name the first player they think about when they think about the Packers, I am sure that just about everyone would say Favre. The thought of Favre in anothe
Legendary QB Brett Favre was in Seattle last night as his Green Bay Packers were visiting the Seattle Seahawks for a Monday night showdown. Favre not only brought the familiar snowy conditions with him, but also had a very large cheering section at Qwest Field. Seattle columnist, Jim Moore took it upon himself to interview as many Packers fans within the first 20 minutes prior to kickoff who were sporting a #4 Brett Favre jersey. According to Moore, there was certainly no shortage of Favre jerseys. Moore tapped a few bars to pick the brains of why fans are so enamoured with Favre. Here are a few of the fan responses:One woman, Lyndsey Wymore who was drinking at the Pyramid Brewery was celebrating her 30th birthday and had a sign that read "Today's my 30th birthday, All I want is a kiss from No. 4." "He's the best quarterback to ever play the game,"Aric Anderson of Portland said. "He's a tank that never quits." "He opens his arms to everyone and is just an honestguy," said Julie Beck

Three time NFL MVP Brett Favre is set to return for his 17th season in 2007. It looks like he is excited to comeback.. he should be ..he is a gamer and a winner. Even during a disappointing regular season in 2006, Favre displayed so much emotion and passion for the game.I've missed watching the best of some great ones such as Montana, Elway, Marino.. but I wouldn't say that for Favre. He's truly the NFL's iron-man. He has played 257 consecutive games and in this day and age, when the Quarterbacks get hit hard by big, fast defensive guys, it is a hard feat to accomplish.http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2752040

According to Brett Favre's hometown newspaper, the Sun Herald in Mississippi, the Packers QB is coming back for another year."I am so excited about coming back," he told the newspaper. "We have a good nucleus of young players. We were 8-8 last year and that's encouraging. (AP)Two things come to mind: 1. Favre is right to be excited. While he didn't put up great numbers last year, he's still more than capable, and if the team can build on the momentum they created at the end of last year, they're a legitimate playoff threat in 2007 in the weak NFC. 2. Aaron Rodgers, the Pack's backup QB, might be one of the most snake-bitten players in recent memory. He went from being the possible #1 pick in the entire draft a couple of years ago (he nose-dived all the way to #24) to now likely having to wait until his 4th season to start his first NFL game, a pretty safe bet considering Favre has started 257 consecutive games.brett favreGoing Deep
