Louisiana buckles the Bible in favour of death!
The Parable of the Lost Sheep is seemingly lost on some folk in Louisiana. They'd rather the lost sheep be fried in oil than be let back into the fold. The Good Shepherd is more concerned for the lost sheep, but if you've just tightened your belt a couple of notches too much, the message might get blurred in the subsequent fainting fit. The State of Louisiana is seeking to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to rule that death "is not cruel and unusual punishment for the rape of a child" and thus doesn't violate the 8th Amendment. This comes on the day that the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a challenge to the lethal three-drug cocktail used in most U.S. executions during the past 30 years. No matter that the stuff takes a time to wend its way through the veins. I suppose these judges describe themsel

Voluntary rent caps could turn the situation in favour of Landlords
Analysts are of the opinion that imposing a 'voluntary' rent cap, could turn the current situation in favour of Landlords, leading to a rampant increase in rent rates. This statement came, following a leading government official's statement that Dubai's rent cap may become voluntary, permitting landlords to adjust rents on par with current market rates. The CEO of RERA (Real Estate Regulatory Authority), Marwan bin Ghalita, said that the cap on price increases for renewed rents, when being renewed during the following year, should be done at a lower level than the current seven percent. However, he emphasized that in case the commercial or residential property Landlords are of the opinion that the cap is responsible for keeping rents below the market prices, they can argue for an adjustment, based on benchmark rate, recommended by RERA.According to Bin Ghalita, this system could be successful in reducing situations where the Landlords tend to evict tenants under silly pretexts for the

2,000 women rally in favour of Islamic law
One wonders if it is humanly possible to be more deluded than these sorry people: Chanting slogans in favor of jihad, about 2,000 women from Pakistan's hardline Islamic parties rallied in the capital Tuesday in support of the radical former leaders of Islamabad's Red Mosque. Demonstrators gathered outside Islamabad's sprawling Faisal Mosque also urged the government to enforce Islamic laws in the country. ... "The blood for the martyrs of Red Mosque and Jamia Hafsa will not go waste!" the demonstrators chanted. Qazi Hussain Ahmed, the chief of Pakistan's main Jamaat-e-Islami party, told the crowd his group would build new seminaries to replace the one at the Red Mosque, which was at the center of the rebels' resistance and was torn down by authorities last week. ... On Tuesday, Ahmed claimed that Musharraf took the action against Red Mosque and its seminary to appease Washington. The Favour
The door to the store opened at a time no one was expecting customers. The heat in the street threatened to melt the plastic off the bench at the bus stop and metallic surfaces were hot enough to cook on. The proprietor and his wife were sitting in the back fanning themselves with the morning’s newspaper while an ineffective cooler tried to circulate the hot air. It didn’t appear that anybody sane was willing to risk sunstroke just to pop into the corner store. Across the city, people without air-conditioning were wilting in the early afternoon heat. When the proprietor and his wife came out front they were wearing the furrowed brows of the mildly irritated. The irritation was replaced with concern when they laid eyes on their customer. She was as inappropriately dressed for the heat as the forty-year-old moms who thought it was cool to shop in the same stores as their sixteen-year-old daughters. The proprietor wondered for a fleeting moment whether the PVC chafed. She was wearing

Who does Google favour most in SA?
Today during my daily expedition on Google, I found that I’m still Google’s favourite Werner de Bruin. Well, basking in my own glory, I thought to my self: “Self, where would I rank for only my first name?” The results came in and out the window. Not even in the top 100!!! I didn't really expect to rank anywhere - about 80% of the top 100 pages use Werner in the domain name. So maybe I should setup my own website? Coming soon… Alright, so with my ego passed out on the floor, I looked for other Google favourites – favourite TV Series (M*A*S*H), favourite Cartoon (Cartoon Network), Motor Car (Cadillac), Website (Wiki).
