By: George Shears As a result of the ongoing wellness revolution, more and more people are learning that they need to add high quality nutritional supplements to their diet in order to help prevent and reverse a wide array of chronic degenerative diseases. The basic reason for this is very simple--we are genetically programmed to eat only the simple, whole foods that were consumed by our stone-age ancestors. To whatever degree we deviate from this kind of diet, we deprive our bodies of key necessary nutrients and ingest substances that actually cause them harm.Tragically, about 90% of the average American diet now consists of mummified foods that are lacking in the key nutrients we need; even worse, they commonly contain a wide array of ingredients that are either downright t

Guest post by Lindsey Tanner, The Associated PressCHICAGO - Being 25 pounds overweight doesn't appear to raise your risk of dying from cancer or heart disease, says a new study from the United States government. The findings might comfort some who can't seem to lose those last 15 pounds. And they hearten proponents of a theory that it's possible to be "fit and fat." The news isn't all good: Overweight people do have a higher chance of dying from diabetes and kidney disease. And people who are obese - generally those more than 30 pounds overweight for their height - have a higher risk of death from a variety of ills, including some cancers and heart disease. However, having a little extra weight actually seemed to help people survive some illnesses - results that baffled several leading health researchers. "This is a very puzzling disconnect," said Dr. JoAnn Manson, chief of preventive medicine at Harvard's Brigham and Women's Hospital. "That is a conundrum." It was the second stu

Research shows for two centuries already that we get fat from consuming too much energy. Someone who eats a lot of fat and protein feels satiated sooner and longer and consumes significantly less energy than someone who eats a lot of carbohydrates.

Eating Fatty Fish Cuts Risk of Heart Disease
Two new studies offer more evidence that eating several servings of fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids each week may reduce the risk of heart disease and death. The first study, conducted by researchers from Brigham and Woman’s Hospital in Boston, compared 94 men who died suddenly from heart disease with 184 healthy men. They discovered that men without heart disease were 81 percent less likely to experience sudden death if they had high levels of omega-3 fatty acids in their blood, regardless of other risk factors such as age or smoking habits. Found in fatty fish such as salmon and mackerel, omega-3 fatty acids are believed to lower the risk of developing an irregular heart rhythm and to reduce blood cholesterol and clotting. A second study, published in a recent issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, looked at data from 85,000 women involved in the Nurses Health Study and found those who consumed at least five servings of fish per week lowered their risk of co

Josh Freeman Is No Longer A Fatty
Kansas State was expecting big things this year from sophomore quarterback Josh Freeman. Unfortunately, last week those expectations had to be tempered a little bit when Freeman couldn’t even pass the pre-camp conditioning test. All he had to do was run three 300 yard shuttle runs in under 50 seconds, but he failed on two different attempts. So while numerous offensive and defensive lineman hit the practice field, the Wildcats quarterback couldn’t practice because he was too slow. The good news is that Freeman can now stop worrying. Over the weekend he passed the test, and after missing two days of practice he was finally allowed to step onto the field. With the hardest part now out of the way, there’s nothing to stop Freeman from leading K-State to an undefeated season.

      Fatty Clarkson
Here is the thing about Photoshop-- we all know it exists but we are typically fooled by it and are constantly obsessing over how we want to look like "that". Sad but true. Every so often the Photoshop gods and goddess get a little pixel happy and they aren't fooling anyone. In fact they are just plain insulting to us loyal readers and to the celebrity being photographed. Photoshop insult of the month is Elle magazine featuring a "thin" Kelly Clarkson on the cover. When the issue of Elle arrived in my mailbox I wasn't even sure who it was. At first I said to myself "Why is Mandy Moore on the cover again, she was just on two months ago?" then I said "Wtf is that Kelly Clarkson? I am not reading this trash." Unfortunately I had to open the magazine for the sake of this blog post and it is utterly ridiculous the whole spread is pretty pathetic. C'mon this isn't even remotely convincing, not only did we just see big Kel stomping around the American Idol Finale stage barefoot and plum

Matthew Stafford, You Big Fatty! This is how you spend your off-season?
5 Star QB Matthew Stafford is shown in pictures lifting up Kegs, rolling around in the grass with Joe Cox (also a QB at UGA), and just look plain out fat.  I know that you don’t have to roll around like Brady Quinn, but my gosh, at least workout a little.  This does not look to good for the Bulldogs for a team looking for a QB since DJ Shockley and David Green.  Check out the pics: Caption:  Now Joe, this won’t hurt a bit. Omega-3 Fatty Acids : To Protect Against Heart Disease.
It's important for those interested in natural health to focus on antioxidants and immunity, but we must also understand the need to incorporate other crucial nutritionals into our daily regimen. This article focuses on an essential group of nutrients called fatty acids.Fats include the molecules that are the basis of solid fats, liquid oils, and cholesterol. These fats clearly affect human health. The building blocks of fats include fatty acids. Fats, oils, and cholesterol are referred to by medical scientists as lipids. Lipids include the fatty acids, the principal building blocks of fats and oils, and phospholipids, from which the cell membrane is made.Fatty AcidsFatty acids come in different shapes and sizes. They are the key building blocks of all fats and oils, both the fat (lipids) in our food and in our bodies. Fatty acids are the main components in neutral fats (triglycerides) carried in our blood. They are also the main components of the fat stored in our fat cells, which ca

      Fatty
I received an email from a visitor to my blog who liked my kitty icon so I thought I should introduce Fatty. I got Fatty from the RSPCA a few years ago when she was two and brought in as a stray. She was so cute and when I walked past her cage she looked me right int the eyes and miaowed as if to say "Take me home, you know you want to" I just had to rescue her then and there big sook that I am. In fact I'm such a sook I rescued a neurotic pure-bred oriental at the same time, much to Fatty's continuing disgust. Anyway, Fatty moved right in and made herself at home by beating up Freaky (the oriental) and has pretty much ruled the house since then. In the past few years she has about doubled her bodyweight and has made it her mission to bash up any cat that is unfortunate to live next door to us. Yes, I'm afraid Fatty is a bit of a bogan, in hindsight I should have named her Shazza. When she is not bashing up the neighbours' cats she is either sleeping or eating or vomiting o

      Take that fatty!
A few comments and observations following our great win at the Reebok yesterday. Firstly my view on some of the player’s performances. Once again I thought Basil’s handling was faultless, and the defence in general were superb. A special mention must be made of Gael Clichy, who was brilliant - bombing up the wing at every opportunity. Gilberto slotted in seamlessly in the middle and it was a canny bit of team selection from Arsene to put Djourou at right back. Abou Diaby and Denilson were excellent as was Rosicky, but my own personal man of the match was Alex Hleb. I think it was his best ever performance for us to date. Adey worked his balls of again and in fact was many people’s man of the match. Jeremie Aliadiere produced a great little cameo at the end, and Freddie scored a fabulous winner. I must admit to thinking at the time that we weren’t likely to get the winner with him on the field - his last goal for us was probably against Bolton a hundred years a

      Walnuts helpful after fatty meal
A recent study from Barcelona found that eating walnuts with high-fat foods helped decrease the sudden onset of inflammation in a person’s arteries. However, researches have also said that people shouldn’t take this to mean it’s OK to eat unhealthy fats if they simply add walnuts to their diets. They suggest cutting back on high-fat meals altogether. Related links Interactive Health - Nutrition and Diet section tags technorati : walnuts fat
