I think the problem would arise if that feeling doesn’t begin to decrease but rather intensifies during the next 4-6 months. That would be an indication that some intervention might be in order. Today, the day after the cards and ties and hugs have been exchanged, I'm still left feeling a little empty. Father's Day is now a difficult holiday for me to be jubilant about because now there are more questions than answers. When I was born, I had a father. Just one. As shitty as he was to me, he was my father and later on became the representation of what a man isn't supposed to be. Every Father's Day, I'd make him a construction paper card with all the love in the world, even though he showed much less than that love back to me. Just last night, I had a look through my baby pictures out of boredom and found a whole bunch of them of me and my dad together. In all of them, we're smiling or laughing together. My favourite is one where I'm wearing a frilly dress and he's crouched down beside me and we're both laughing. With the background noise of my dad yelling at me while I sit in my room and study the picture, I wonder what happened between when the picture was taken and the present. Maybe there was something that allowed us to laugh together when I was two that is no longer there now that I've outgrown frilly dresses. I suppose there are moments when a part of that is still in our father-daughter relationship. Sometimes when he's the one cooking dinner instead of my mom and I just help out here and there with little things like flipping something over with the spatula or adding more salt. Today is Fathers’ Day and as usual I haven’t got my Father anything for it. Yes, it’s miserly but I don’t generally subscribe to it as a rule. It’s just another excuse to give some money to Clinton cards, right?
So I don’t bother.
This bothers my parents somewhat. Each year I get a “You forgot father’s day” phone call. I usually reply with the “There’s a Son Day every week but what do I get from you?” sarcastic remark. Invariably they throw “Years of love and support” back into my face. Nice one.
This year, my Mother said:
“Have you remembered it’s Fathers’ Day next weekend?”
“No”
“Well, you will next year.”
I fairly certain that I wont remember next year, but if I do I’m sure I’ll be guilt ridden for not sending my Dad a card or gift for however many years it’s been now.

Happy Fathers Day I had to laugh this morning when I opened my Fathers day presents from my daughter. My daughter is just coming out of her teenage "Kevin" stage...what ever!!!!....and she has suddenly developed a sense of humour. I knew something was going on as she couldn't help smiling. I opened my first present and to my amusement and hers it was a Excess Nasal Hair and Eyebrow trimmer. At last I thought I have reached that age of protruding nasal hair and eyebrows that waft about in the wind. But at least now I can control them, as long as I remember not to insert the trimmer more than 6 inches or was that 6mm up my nose.I shall be wearing my Superdad T shirt and badge with pride today whilst I tuck in to my cake.To all dads enjoy the day.....

We were out on the Ward Family farm yesterday visiting with my inlaws. I had the opportunity to take photos of John, his dad, and Cameron walking around discovering and pointing at everything from a little piece of rock to the Scottish Highland cows (which, by the way, Cameron calls bears, since they have so much hair -too bad I didn't get a picture). John and his dad are very close. So close, in fact, that they have the same profession (both lawyers), and they even work together.
