I did my third The Sporting News Live Mock Fantasy Football Draft today. They offer 10 & 12 Team Drafts that go 15 rounds, which I use to gauge where people are picked. As the season approaches, these Mock Drafts become better because everyone is more up-to-speed on the players and you get a full draft. When [...]

When Walter Camp modified and tweaked some rugby football rules, the present American football game was born. The origin of professional football can be traced back in 1892 when William "Pudge" Heffelfinger was paid $500 to play for Allegheny Athletic Association against the Pittsburgh Athletic Club. Football has become the most popular and highly anticipated sports in the USA today. The game ha

I'm quite new to the world of sports journalism and so it was useful that I spent some of the morning searching for pictures for a Fantasy Football competition being run by the Star. This gave me a good idea of who plays for what, what kit each team wears and where they'd played before. Sport is a big money industry closely linked to financial journalism, and it's hugely important to the public. A

It’s almost that time of the year again! You can always tell fantasy football is just around the corner when everyone in the NFL starts crying about their contract. Another way that we Fantasy Ballers emulate the NFL is by using Mock Drafts. In the months leading up to the NFL Draft you cannot swing a mouse by the cord without hitting an online Mock Draft, right? So it is our duty as we strive for fantasy football stardom to Mock. [...]

Its pretty rare that a rookie quarterback comes in and makes an immediate fantasy impact. But its good to have a rough idea of what is available just in case. Here are the top rookie fantasy football quarterbacks for 2008.Matt Ryan - Atlanta Falcons - The best chance to start in 2008 of any of the rookie QB's.Chad Henne - Miami Dolphins - He's a project, but the Dolphins could give him a shot this year if things go south for the offense.Brian Brohm - Green Bay Packers - Aaron Rodgers should be ready to start, but if he falters, Brohm could get some snaps.
I haven't gotten to do a fantasy sports post in a hot minute so let us get down. We're going to make some assumptions here.Standard scoring league (as opposed to PPR) (PPR = Points Per Reception)10 teams in a 16 round draftStart 1 QB, 2 RB, 1 RB/WR Flex, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Team DEFNon-keeper leagueNo IDP's (Individual Defensive Players)When ever I do a fantasy football post these will be the assumptions that I am operating under unless I say otherwise. I should probably do something smart like put these somewhere where they can always be easily seen. If I was smart I'd be a "real" writer and not a blogger right? We're going to get the fantasy football stuff done by June so everything can be updated easily after June 1st cuts (if any), training camp and the preseason. The draft is done. Here are a few rookie wide receivers that could have an impact during the 2008 fantasy football season. There are no early rounders here, but these guys could be worth a gamble on a late round pick.James Hardy, Buffalo Bills - Bills need a compliment to Lee Evans. Hardy could be the guy.Devin Thomas, Washington Redskins - Big target for Jason Campbell to look for.Dexter Jackson, Tampa Bay Buccaneers - A big play guy on a team with an aging go-to WR.DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles - Still looking for a receiver to fill the void left by TO.
The Wide Receiver group was overshadowed by the Running Back this year in the NFL Draft. So much in fact that the first WR was not picked until the top of the second round when the Rams took Donnie Avery. With the ball catchers falling there was a team lurking in the second round [...]

The fantasy football playoffs are much like the major league baseball playoffs, a crapshoot. Any team that makes the playoffs can win the playoffs. However, with a little strategy, you can give your team a bit of an edge going into the last 3 weeks of the regular season. Here are my top 3 fantasy football playoff tips.Know your division winners - Whether your league finishes in week 16 or 17, it is important to know which teams have clinched their playoff spot and thus have nothing else to play for. There are a few teams clinching early this year, (New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers). Don't be surprised in big names like TO and Brady see reduced playing time in the final weeks.Watch the waiver wire like a hawk - Every year a few big names emerge in the last 3 weeks of the season. Teams out of contention will give increased playing time to young players and teams that have clinched are more likely to play backups. If you can score one of these players, it may win y
When I was a kid, my parents encouraged me to play football because it teaches cooperation and team work, helps develop positive social skills and teaches respect for others. Although I am no longer playing football I usually visit fantasy football blog. Football really build self confidence, positive self-image and self-worth.
At NFL Guru website we find some fantasy football tips which will let you win some of your picks each week in the NFL. You will learn how to pick each week and enhance your winning chances. Now I make sure I am updated with football news, and read about review last weekend’s games so that I will know what’s happening. Football is such a fun, challenging and exciting.
Americans love sports and one of their most favorite sports includes professional football. NFL games are popular to watch in person or on television; however, it is also becoming somewhat interactive. Fantasy football is a game that many football lovers participate in. A fantasy football league can be developed among internet users, coworkers, family, and friends. Each week that a professional football game is being played fantasy football participants are required to pick their ideal teams. Generally a fantasy football player will receive a certain amount of point when their players make a play or completes a certain action. The majority of individuals who participate in fantasy football play for fun; however, many groups have started offering prizes for winners. Each fantasy football league has their own way of determining how a weekly or overall winner is picked. With the possibility of bragging rights and great prizes there a large number of individuals who rely on professional sp

Well he finally showed up after dropping off of the fantasy radar for a few weeks. Chad Johnson returns to the top of the fantasy football heep and earn this weeks MVP honors with a big performance.
Ocho Cinco posted 12 catches for 103 yards and 3 touchdowns against a reeling Titans defense. This was without a doubt a welcome performance for many fantasy owners who haven’t quite been getting their moneys worth out of the jaw-jacking Bengals receiver.
Other performances of note in week 12 were ; Brett Favre with 381 and 3 TD’s, Kurt Warner with 484 and 2 TD’s, Kolby Smith with 150 and 2 TD’s, Frank Gore - speaking of not getting your moneys worth - 116 with 2 TD’s on the ground and 11 catches for 98 through the air and finally Larry Fitzgerald with 156 and 2 TD’s. Congrats to you if you owned one or more of those players.

Introducing the brand new Inside Arsenal - Monthly Fantasy Football
A lot of you will already be playing a season-long fantasy football game, and a lot of you will probably be wondering where it all went wrong (like picking Nolan instead of Elano back in August!). Languishing at the bottom of the league, with no chance of tasting success, isn't much fun and i'm sure there are lots of us in that position right now! Even if you're doing well, and you're flying high at the top, you've still got to wait until May to get your hands on the prize.
Well, the guys over at SquadGod Fantasy Football have changed all that, by launching a new monthly version of their game this week, and will be giving away £500 worth of cash and prizes every month.
We have set up an Inside Arsenal Monthly Fantasy Football League, so come and join via the link below:

With this short holiday week I almost forgot about crowning the Fantasy Football MVP from last weekend. This week I went with Terrell Owens.
It was a tough decision considering the great performances of Brady and Moss. In the end I figured Owens had more yards than Moss and I am just coming to expect Brady to have games like that this year. Brady had 373 yards and 5 touchdowns while Moss had 10 catches for 128 and 4 touchdowns.
A few other solid performances to mention are Chester Taylor with 164 yards and 3 touchdowns and Owens QB, Tony Romo, who had 293 and 4 touchdowns.
Owens posted 8 catches for 173 yards and 4 touchdowns. This was no doubt responsible for a win or two in fantasy leagues everywhere.
Surprisingly, there aren’t very many videos out there for Owens. Outside of a few live footage videos, there was one of some sound bites of him on the sidelines and a few TO workout tip videos; I figured I’d spare you. Of the two live footage videos, this was the least b

I hope you guys grabbed a`few of the suggestions for the last few weeks. D.J. Hackett, Donald Lee, Chris Henry and Chester Taylor all had great games. Lets see what we can find this week.

**UPDATE** Nate Washington WR (PIT) - Santonio Holmes will miss some action this week and Washington could be a decent starter this Monday against Miami.
**UPDATE** Kolby Smith RB (KC) - Priest is calling it a career and LJ is still out. Best of all the Raider bad rush d is in town. Thanks for the heads up Joe.
**UPDATE** Vince Young QB (TEN) - Is it possible that he is laying around on your waiver wire? If so it may not be a bad idea to pick him up. He showed Monday night that he is beginning to step up his game with 300 yards and a TD passing and 74 yards and a TD rushing. If his receivers
I was flipping through YouTube today and I stumbled onto some old footage of Barry Sanders. I figured I would share it with you, and while I was at it, start a new series. I’ll call it Fantasy Football Hall of Fame.
Barry was a difference maker on fantasy football teams. When you saw him on your opponents team you know he could go off big time.
Although, back in the day, Barry wasn’t the type of back that would be drafted number one overall, we was a solid first round pick most years. This said more about the team he played on more than about his ability. He just didn’t get the goal line opportunities of annual first picks like Emmitt Smith.
Barry was (is) exciting to watch because he could make pro-bowl defenders look silly. The other thing I remember about Barry is he would have like 10 carries for 5 yards in the first half but then come out and rip of a few 50 to 70 yarders in the second half. The man was explosive and hard to contain for an entire game.
Anyway
Well Mr. Favre did it again; he torched my Minnesota Vikings. He torched them so good that he earns this weeks Fantasy Football MVP honors.
He helped fantasy owners everywhere with 351 yards passing and 3 touchdowns. This year, stats like those have been common place for Favre and that isn’t likely to change any time soon.
A few other players worth mentioning this week are Terrell Owens with 6 catches, 125 yards, 2 TD’s, Jeremy Shockey 10 catches, 129 yards, a TD and how about Shayne Graham putting up 7 field goals? Damn! Congrats to all of you who started any of these guys.
Anyway, back to Brett. Year after year I have been watching this guy do his thing. On one hand it stinks that he plays for a rival but on the other hand, as a football fan, it is a pleasure to see him work. He’s a great competitor and always seemed like a pretty cool guy. The kind of guy you could sit down and have a beer with.
As always I finish with some video. I usually like to post videos
If everything goes as I think it will tonight, I will end up as the fifth ranked team in the Susquehanna Football League. While this may not seem like a big deal to some of you (or most of you,) it's a really big deal to me. It's kind of sad, actually it's really sad, but fantasy football is one of the biggest things in my life. Where did I go wrong?Anyways, now that I am ranked 5-5, I enter into a tie with other teams with only 4 teams having better records than 5-5, and one of them by only 1/2 of a game. I beat all of the other 5-5 teams except two, so I end up ranked ahead of them thanks to that tiebreaker. That places me in a decent enough sixth place in the SFL, just high enough to make it into the playoffs in the bottom. However, I am on a complete tear the past 4 weeks after a disappointed start to the season, dominating my last four games, with no end in sight.Four weeks remain before the start of the fantasy playoffs and if my winning streak continues I even have the

**UPDATE** Chester Taylor/Mewelde Moore RB (MIN) - Per Brad Childress, by way of the NFL on sirius, Adrian Peterson may miss some action with a LCL tear. Chester would be the main beneficiary but Moore might see some action too. The Vikes are home against the Raiders this Sunday and the Raiders aren’t very good at stopping the run.
Chris Henry WR (CIN) - He’s back and he didn’t waste any time getting back in the action. 4 catches for 99 yards.
L.J. Smith TE (PHI) - 4 for 49 and a touchdown against Washington. He could be a forgotten man on your leagues waiver wire and could be solid down the stretch if the Eagles get it going. Miami next week.

Well I hate to repeat MVP’s but this week I had no choice. For the second time this years the honor goes to half man, half God, Adrian Peterson. When you break a record the size of the single game rushing record you get the nod.
In case you missed it AP posted 296 yards and three touchdowns. He is the first rookie ever to go over the two hundred mark twice in the same season.
Just think of how much more dangerous the guy would be if he had even an average passing to keep the defense honest. Scary (unless your a Vikings fan like your truly anyway). (more…)
Ravens 7, Steelers 38Steve McNair continues to struggle (8 turnovers in 5 games) and backup Kyle Boller has been unable to take the starting job away.Willis McGahee (12 carries, 50 yards, 1 TD) left the game with a concussion and his status is unknown for Week 10.Derrick Mason (6 catches, 35 yards) is averaging 8 receptions per game, but hard to justify starting him unless your league scores receptions. The Ravens defensive letdown was largely due to the absence of starting cornerbacks Chris McAlister (knee) and Samari Rolle (undisclosed illness). In the next 5 games the Ravens will face strong offensive units in the Bengals, Browns, Chargers, Patriots, and Colts. It's not time to drop the Ravens D yet, but it is time to formulate a backup plan.Cowboys 38, Eagles 17Just went you want to drop Julius Jones (13 carries, 57 yards, 22 receiving yards, 1 TD) he puts together a decent game. However when it really counts it's still Marion Barber getting his number called. Donovon McNabb's so
Here are some waiver wire and sleeper picks for you to check out. There are a ton of guys on my list because I play in some deeper leagues. I need to look a little deeper than most.
May be available now…
**UPDATE** Musa Smith RB (BAL) - Willis McGahee went down with a concussion last night late in the game. Those are ussually tricky so it is hard to say what his status might be for this week. You might want to grab Musa because if he does play, he should find lot of success against the Bungals D.
Detroit Defense - I should have said something about them last week but I almost didn’t believe it. They have been great the last two games; they have held two consecutive solid opponents to just 7 points, have forced 8 turnovers and recorded 7 sacks. Oh, and they play a struggling Arizona this week.
Maurice Morris RB (SEA) - Alexander wasn’t even on the field for most of the fourth quarter, instead Morris got the bulk of the work. Alexander just doesn’t look like h

After adding two rushing touchdowns to his usual 300 yards and three through the air, I could’ve easily picked Tom Brady for this weeks Fantasy Football MVP. However, I picked him last week and how fun would that be?
Instead I picked Drew Brees with his 31 of 39 for 336 and four TD performance against the Niners. Just when you thought you wasted a high draft pick, he comes through with big time performance.
Best of all if you own him, the Saints are starting to pick up some steam. There is good reason to expect more games like this before the fantasy season is over. After the Jaguars this week he has games against the Rams, Texans, Carolina and Atlanta. (more…)
Packers 19, Broncos 13Ryan Grant became the first Packers running back to break the 100 yard mark against the helpless Broncos run defense. With fellow rookie DeShawn Wynn now on injured reserve Grant could take over as the starter -- for whatever it's worth -- on the league's worst running attack.Greg Jennings and Donald Driver are owned in nearly every league, yet James Jones (6 catches, 107 yards, 1 TD) is available in most leagues and ranks second on the team in receptions and receiving yardage.Selvin Young ran for 71 yards on 18 carries with Travis Henry out with sore ribs. Young lead the team with 6 receptions for 49 yards. The undrafted rookie was a hot add a few weeks ago on the heels of Travis Henry's failed drug test but has been been dropped in recent weeks. The Broncos will travel to Detroit and Kansas City and with both teams allowing a little over 100 yards per game Young is an attractive addition once again.Brandon Stokley has caught 5 balls for at least 70 yards per

**UPDATE** Ryan Grant RB (GB) - After his showing in Denver he should get at least one more start. Pick him up and be glad you did.
Adimchinobe Echemandu RB (HOU) - Not sure how you say`his name but he looked pretty decent against San Diego until the game got out of hand. 10 carries for 62 yards along with 2 catches for 11. Ahman Green was a last second mystery scratch and they cut Gado which gave AE had an opportunity to show something; he did. If you have a deep bench check him out because ya never know. (more…)
As I pondered who I would choose as this weeks fantasy football MVP, there were a few performances that stood out to me.
There was Rob Bironas’ eight field goals in wild game in Houston. For every guys lucky enough to start him there was another guy really pissed off about losing because of him.
Then there was back-up running back Kenny Watson’s three TD, 130 yard performance against the Jets. You know Marshawn Lynch is licking his chops as he watches the game tape on this one.
Those performances most likely were difference makers in fantasy football contests everywhere and they without a doubt deserve their props. However, there is one performance that stands far and above the rest. (more…)

Colts 29, Jaguars 7Peyton Manning has only one 300 yard passing game this season. With a ginger Marvin Harrison sitting out much of the game Reggie Wayne made several impressive grabs in traffic. Dallas Clark has scored in 5 straight games. The Colts tight end is on pace to set career highs in receptions and yardage by mid season. The Jags lost a critical divisional game, but also lost QB David Garrard to a left ankle sprain. His status for next week is unknown. The lose of Garrard will certainly increase the value of Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew with the Jags lacking confidence in backup QB Quinn Gray passing the ball.Speedster Maurice Jones-Drew a sprained left knee. X-rays were negative and he appears to be OK for Week 8. Jones-Drew rebounded from three disappointing games to begin the season to score 4 times in the last three games.Steelers 28, Broncos 31Ben Roethlisberger kept the Broncos in the game with 3 turnovers. Willie Parker ran for 93 yards against the league's worst
By: Joseph KennyInterest in fantasy football is growing by leaps and bounds. If you are interested in owning a fantasy football team, one of the most important decisions you will need to make will be in regards to the type of league you should join. There are many different types of fantasy football leagues and it is important to make the right decision. Read on for tips to help you understand the different types of teams and decide which one is right for you. The most popular type of leagues are the standard draft leagues. These types of leagues are begun with teams in which the players are selected in a serpentine style of draft. Lineups can then be selected by the owners on a weekly basis. This is usually based on the number of players per position as allowed by league rules. There are actually two different types of standard draft leagues. These are total points and head to head. The difference between the two is that with a head to head league each team is matched up against a dif

Mostly it is just a list with a mix of slightly unknown guys who had big days and injury replacements. Some of these guys could help you out now or just provide you with some depth and/or upside on your bench. Check them out: (more…)
It’s time to honor the top fantasy performer of the week with a few words and a little video. This week, with so many great performances, selecting one player was a tough call. Or was it?
LaDainian Tomlinson and Tom Brady were both huge this week. However, (more…)

It has been a few weeks since I’ve done a Blogger’s Blitz but I have a bunch of great sites to share with you today.
First, for those of you who are new or don’t remember, here’s the skinny on this periodic post. Other than having a cheesy ass name, the Bloggers Blitz is a post I do from time to time to help share some great fantasy/sports blogs and sites with you. I come across these in a wide variety of ways; I see them when I am surfing, they are recommended by friends or the webmasters themselves send me info.
Know that you know, let’s get to it. Ladies and gentleman, the eighth installment of the Bloggers Blitz: (more…)
Starting tomorrow I'll start posting my fantasy basketball blowout. For now there's a lot of fantasy football nuggets to digest. See you tomorrow!Cowboys 25, Bills 24Patrick Crayton (6 catches, 73 yards, 1 TD) continues to build upon his breakthrough performance from last week. Marion Barber III continues to outperform starter Julius Jones. Tony Romo committed 6 turnovers and has to make his owners nervous heading into a battle of undefended teams next week against New England despite the last minute victory.Rookie Marshawn Lynch had 98 combined yards and I'm still plugging a great low buy option. Over the past few seasons the Bills offense has put it together in the last month of the season and that should be prime time for Lynch to bust out.I suggested started Lee Evans. Oops. With all the Bills defense and special teams scoring it was hard for the Bills offensive play makers to find opportunities. Evans is also a guy to target in trades.Bears 27, Packers 20Only 64 yards on 27 att
Starting today, and going until the end of the season, I am going to honor one of the top fantasy performers from the previous weeks action. I will say a few words and put up a little video for you to watch.
This week we go to Indy and give props to Kenton Keith. Last Sunday Kenton posted 121 on the ground, 5 receptions for 37 through the air and two touchdowns. This put a huge smile on unsuspecting fantasy owners everywhere.
You may be wondering; who is this guy? Where did he come from? Well here’s a little throwback footage of Kenton from his days in the Canadian Football League. The holes are a little smaller in the NFL, but as it turns out, this stuff is old hat for KK. Check it out.
