My imaginary brother Jon Lester threw 8 one-hit innings with 6 Ks. Boston didn’t win until the 9th so he go a no-decision for his brilliant effort. The snake-bitten Roy Halladay threw his fourth strai
Bat Of The Weekend: Brandon Phillips – 6/12, 4 R, 1 2B, 3 HR, 7 RBI, 1 SBPhillips went 30-30 in a breakout 2007 campaign and entered 2008 as the top rated second baseman in some preseason rankings. Phillips got off to a slow start from a power perspective but is really beginning to turn it on as we head into May. The Reds’ 2B is a legitimate 30-30 threat and one of the elite players at his position.Arm Of The Weekend: James Shields – 9 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K (CG, W)James Shields was nasty Sunday afternoon in Tampa, throwing a complete game 2 hitter and in the process giving the Rays their first series sweep of the rival Red Sox. Don’t look now but the Rays starting pitching ranks among the best in baseball and will only improve once Scott Kazmir returns in early May....wierd to

Carlos Quentin went 3 f0r 4 with a Double and a Solo Home Run before the Baltimore-Chicago game was suspended because of rain. Adam Jones hit a Double and a Triple for Baltimore. Edwin Encarnacion had 2 Doubles and 2 RBI. Rick Ankiel hit a Double and a HR. Mark Ellis and Frank Thomas (Double & Triple) each had three hits for Oakland. Daric Barton and Emil Brown each drove in three runs. Aaron Rowand went 2 for 3 with a couple of RBI. Dan Ortmeier had a pair of Doubles for the Giants.
Javier Vazquez went 8 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits with 7 Ks, but his bullpen cost him a win. Daniel Cabrera went 6-1/3 allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. He survived his 7 walks. Mike Mussina allowed 2 runs in 5 innings for his 253rd career victory (his third
Bat Of The Week: Chipper Jones - .565, 6 R, 2 2B, 4 HR, 7 RBI, 1.773 OPSChipper had a monster week, making only 10 outs on the way to hitting 4 homers, driving in 7 and putting up an OPS over 1.700. Buster Olney thinks that Chipper’s approach at the plate right now is the best it has ever been. I think I would have to agree. Jones’ injury history certainly has to scare fantasy owners as naturally none of this means anything he isn’t on the field. Given the gaudy numbers he has put up over the past 3 years (in remarkably quiet fashion) he is simply a risk worth taking at this point. As far as availability I'm guessing he isn't available in most leagues (depending on how deep you league is). If you have him don't trade him away right now. If he cools down substantially or gets a littl
Fantasy sports leagues have been around for some time now and I think I joined one for all of about 2 weeks. That doesn't stop me from appreciating the passion that surrounds this digital pastime and the real sense of competition that it can evoke. Hardly anyone who has posted in the Entrecard Forums has escaped bumping into Fantasy Baseball, so I decided to take a closer look at the site that currently is advertising on my widget. Writers for the site are Rudy Gamble and Grey Albright and you can almost smell the pine tar as you click from page to page of detailed notes on today's major leaguers. I grew up in Los Angeles during the Koufax and Drysdale era and stopped followed baseball shortly after Fernandomania. However, wandering through this site (which is located at Razzball.com) remi
The Washington Nationals host the Atlanta Braves to kick off the 2008 Major League Baseball season, but the thing that I'm most excited about is the start of Fantasy Baseball. This is my 16th year playing Fantasy sports, and I'm pretty optimistic about my chances to win it all this year! Thanks to all of the fellow dads out there who helped me pick my Keepers, as well as the input for my #3 overall pick. My first pick in the draft, by the way, was the Chicago Cubs pitching staff, as the shift to team pitching made this the most valuable roster spot to fill. Here's the All-Star roster for my 2008 team:Starters:Russell Martin, C, LADerrek Lee, 1B, CHCRickie Weeks, 2B, MILAdrian Beltre, 3B, SEAHanley Ramirez, SS, FLAAdam Dunn, OF, CINJeff Francoeur, OF, ATLAustin Kearns, OF, WASCarlos Lee, OF
Thanks again to everyone for helping me to pick my fantasy baseball Keepers. As a reminder, I ended up keeping Hanley Ramirez, SS Florida Marlins, Carlos Lee, OF Houston Astros, and Russell Martin, C LA Dodgers. Now, with the official draft only a few days away, I need your help again.I've got the #3 overall pick, and I'm having a hell of a time trying to decide. The problem is that we made a major change in the team structures this year, in that we went to pitching staffs rather than individual pitchers. It's fun to mix things up, but this throws a monkey wrench in the otherwise predictable drafting tendencies of my league mates. Here are the highlights of the league rules: 1) daily transactions, 2) you get points for all pitchers on a team each day, 3) you must start a player in ever
I had my draft for my fantasy baseball league I'm in earlier this week. I've been in the league with these particular guys now for over five years. It's not a money league but we're real competitive nonetheless. I gotta say I'm real excited! Not only is real baseball starting soon (go Mets!!) but I was able to draft Jose Reyes this year. I think my team has a real strong shot at contending this year.As I was going through all of my work for the draft I realized that fantasy baseball is a lot like personal finance.Without further ado here are five ways fantasy baseball is like personal finance:Research - No successful fantasy baseball can survive without good research. There are 30 baseball teams and each has a 40 man roster. In my league we draft 23 players. You have to go through
My fantasy baseball league this year will be titled "The Hot Dog League." If you're interested in joining, information is as follows:URL: Number:207204Password:BaseballThere is a 10-team max. If the league fills fast, I will allow a couple more teams to join.Unlike my previous leagues, there will be a LIVE draft on Tuesday, April 1st at 10 pm EDT. Scoring will begin on April 7th so that everyone can get a better look at who the hot players will be this season! If you have any questions, e-mail me at ajcordi@yahoo.com. Hope to see you there!
I want to thank everyone who participated in the poll to Pick My Fantasy Baseball Keepers - Batters Only. The winning picks were Carolos Lee, OF Houston Astros, and Russell Martin, C, LA Dodgers. These two excellent players, along with my obvious choice of Hanley Ramirez, SS, Florida Marlins will certainly get me off to a good start.I was a little surprised when the commissioner asked for our Keepers at our annual meeting to review the rules this evening. I thought we were going to build suspense and save it for the week before the draft. It makes sense to get it out of the way now, though, so that teams can begin to prepare a draft strategy. I have to admit that I got some ribbing for keeping a catcher, but I stuck with what was voted on in the poll.We changed a ton of things around this
Just taking a break from computer fixing for a minute and looking at my fantasy baseball draft. It was an auto draft and some how I ended up with
Arod, H Ramirez, Holliday, Howard, Halliday,Hoffman, Zambrano, D Willis. I got Howard in the 6th round. Pretty good for an auto draft.
Alright Dads, I need your help. It's almost time for Fantasy Baseball, and I've got some tough decisions to make this year. I play in two leagues, one of which is a Keeper format. It's a 10 team league, and each team gets to keep 3 batters. We're changing things up this year and having a separate, reverse-order draft for entire pitching staffs, so it will be interesting to see how that unfolds. As you can imagine, with only 10 teams in the league, everyone has a "good" team on paper. This league rewards batters heavily with very negative points (only strikeouts), whereas pitchers get penalized for everything under the sun. I'll update you with scoring after we have our annual conference call later in March. The keys to winning in the past have been Keepers and Sleepers. So, I need your help!
Baseball season is upon us, and this year I'm not only in the now infamous Hot Wing Conspiracy fantasy league, but I'm also hosting my own league at Yahoo as well. That being said, I need more teams. I only have four teams in there and I need at least six more. So join up. Here's the information:You have been invited to join hectorvex's Custom League in Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball. In order to join the league, follow the link above or go to game front page, click the "Sign Up Now" or "Get Another Team" button and follow the links to "Join a Custom League". What is it that makes a fantasy league worth returning to?
When the proprietors here announced they were looking for more contributors, I eagerly enlisted, though I should warn you that I'm nowhere near the expertise and experience in stats and tactics required of a Fantasy Baseball General. I'm more like a fantasy baseball lieutenant--or maybe fantasy baseball color guard.
In any case, that's
Phil was an MVP but how good would he have been for fantasy players?
On the MLB.com Fantasy 411 podcast, Cory Schwartz and Joe Sheehan were discussing Rizzuto and how good he would have been. They thought that he would have been similar to David Eckstein. There is an easy way to at least get an estimate of his fantasy value; all that needs to be done is to apply a head to head league point

The 1992 Summer Olympics were the first to feature NBA players, and the squad from that year was known as the ‘Dream Team’. Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird are just three of the legends that played on that historic and unbeatable team. Although Fantasy Baseball, Football, or even Basketball did not begin in 1992, these thrilling and interactive pastimes do carry on the tradition of that squad. By trying to assemble the best line-up of players from the game in any given year, and seeing how they would match up, fans can rearrange the leagues as they see fit and pretend to be owner, coach, and player all at once. Now, this may sound like a recipe for insanity, but it’s actually a lot of fun - and it gives you some control over the game, even if only in your head. Fantasy Baseball is one of the more popular games for people to play, and there are even draft kits to help players navigate through the draft and auction process.

Welcome to The Jaunt's Fantasy Friday column. Each Friday we'll talk about a variety of fantasy topics. We'll be covering basketball, baseball, and when the time comes, football. Hockey, golf, NASCAR? Never heard of 'em...Fantasy BaseballOpening Day is upon is shortly and there's some last minute fantasy baseball draft advise on the biggest mistakes being made in drafts...Joe Mauer going in the second round? That's a lot to pay for a guy who is only going to help you in batting average. If you insist on a top notch catch wait a few rounds and get Brian McCann, who hits for way more power. Plus McCann's second half numbers, including batting average, were all better. Mauer is a wasted pick.Whould you pick Freddy Sanchez in the second round? I didn't think so. But look at their lines last season. It's a wash. Sanchez was -.03 avg, -7 hr, +1 RBI, -1 run when compared to Mauer's.But Sanchez is also going too high, in the 140's and 150's overall. Why not role the dice on a possi
I have been playing fantasy baseball since 2000 with my fantasy team, the Beacon Mets. I have had some good seasons and some bad seasons, but it is always a fun time. Now in our 8th season we hope to have a repeat of last years season being the World Series Champs of our league. One thing we also hope to hold on to is that every time we make the playoffs, we win the World Series. A big bragging and intimidation record we hold. One other interesting fact also is every time Lance Berkman is our MVP, we also win the World Series. So we have Lance again this year and are ready for 07 and our third World Series Title.
This years draft turned out pretty good. Although we are a better offensive team than pitching; we are happy to take the best catcher, Joe Mauer, and closer, Francisco Rodríguez, in baseball as well as this years number one prospect, Delmon Young. If anything holds us back though it would have to be our starting rotation that has three injury prone starters that pose a great

I've never played fantasy baseball before, aside from a home run derby and a runs for the week pool. Those games present challenges for fans, yes, but not like full-blown, head-to-head action with real players on a roster.
What I've learned is that fantasy baseball has changed the way I watch, listen and react to games. There's nothing like having a key player on your fantasy team face your a
Pitchers and catchers are starting to report around the league but The Jaunt is reporting to fantasy camp! While I'm not here to turn The Jaunt into a fantasy site I've have a lot of success playing fantasy sports over the past few years and I am here to spread my knowledge to the masses. The Jaunt is all about capturing the spirit and interest of the passionate fans, something fantasy sports can also do. So let's get started...The Jaunt Fantasy Camp: Fantasy Baseball Primer #1By the Numbers... In a standard league each week you are ranked in each of 10 categories: 5 batting (batting avg, runs, stolen bases, home runs, and RBI) and 5 pitching (wins, saves, strikeouts, and WHIP) This is how a typical league is setup. You may find leagues that may or have more or less categories or will take away points for things like blown saves and losses which may slightly alter your drafting strategy (something we will talk about later)The Name of the Game... There's many different styles fantas
Welcome to part two of The Jaunt's introduction to fantasy baseball. This short series focuses on how the game works, how to prepare yourself going into draft day, and how to make your picks: first round to last. Today's topic is sound pre draft philosophies. The Jaunt Fantasy Camp: Fantasy Baseball Primer #2Diversify Your Portfolio... Drafting your fantasy players is the start of the investment that is your roster. Over the course of the season you'll be making short term investments like a relief pitcher stepping in temporarily as a closer due to injury. But the goal of the draft is to finish with a well rounded team. Chicks may dig the long ball and it's obviously helpful for home runs and RBI. However, loading your team with all sluggers may cost you in batting average and typically aren't going to steal you many bases... During the first initial rounds draft the best available player. Period. Never go into a draft thinking the roster should be built around speed or power or
