Is God a Great Santa in the sky who laughs and lovingly indulges everything that we do? Or is there more to faith, love, and life?Psalm 89:14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you.Ever since the Beatles came out with the song, “All You Need is Love,” our church and society seem to have adopted that creed. I'm not revealing any secret when I say that this Presidential election is of the utmost importance.Of course, every U.S. Presidential election is important, but for the pro-life, conservative religious person the situation could not be more critical.I'm not John McCain's biggest fan. (Chinese version of this topic, 中文版)Yellowstone is a geographically active place, with more than 2000 earthquakes every year (much less than California, though). Hot springs with H2S flow underground and erupt at some places and thus form geysers, which are similar to those in the Great Boiling Valley in Japan. The most famous geyser is the Old Faithful. It erupts every 92 minutes (10 minute

Simple and Faithful
That has been my theme for the year.
I’ve simplified our stuff. I’ve simplified my time. I’ve simplified my responsibilites.
And I have a long way to go.
But even the little progress I’ve made has been so sweet.
It’s almost as if God has taken the role of an archeologist; whittling away at the dirt, dust and crud until
Atheism is perhaps a new global trend, but it is nearly as old as the idea of God itself.Due to the increase in religiously motivated violence in many parts of the world and the widening gap between science and religion, the idea is now becoming more inviting, more challenging and, thanks to the Internet, more militant than ever before. Here the word "atheist" is usually linked to the demonized Ind

Something I’ve been pondering a lot recently in these new and different post-Writers-strike times, is what compels us to stick with a TV series? Why are we Fickle with some shows and Faithful to others? What makes us want to stick with a show that has disappointed us, while we quickly give up on another show [...]

It has been an up and down, then back up week!I rested on Monday and on Tuesday did a 13.5 mile trail route, taking in 1400ft of ascent. Despite the nights getting lighter I am still finishing the weekday routes in the dark, so I have had ample practice with a head torch now. Despite the manufacturers claims of 80 hours life on the Petzl plus, I've noticed that the brightness deteriorates after a lot less than half of that. In fact I'd go as far to say as it is probably a quarter of that. I'll have to make sure I only use the torch on low beam in the evenings on day 1-3 of the MDS to ensure my battery is still at near to full strength on the long day 4, when I really need it.On Wednesday I was up at 4am and flew to Belfast, then drove to Londonderry where I was working. After work I c

Old Faithful is a cone geyser located in Yellowstone National Park. An eruption can shoot 3,700 to 8,400 gallons of boiling water to a height of 106-184 feet lasting from 1.5 to 5 minutes. The average height of an eruption is 145 feet. Eruptions often occur about 90 minutes apart, but this interval can range from 45 to 125 minutes on occasion. Over the years, the length of the interval has increased, which may be the result of earthquakes affecting subterranean water levels. These disruptions have made the earlier mathematical relationship inaccurate, but have in fact made Old Faithful more predictable. With an error of 10 minutes, Old Faithful will erupt 65 minutes after an eruption lasting less than 2.5 minutes or 92 minutes after an eruption lasting more than 2.5 minutes. The reliability of Old Faithful can be attributed to the fact that it is not connected to any other thermal features of the Upper Geyser Basin.Pictures enlarge if you click on them. When Catherine and I visited
Located in the upper Napa Valley near the town of Calistoga you will find one of only three Old Faithfuls geysers in the world. Every thirty minutes or so this geyser shoots a stream of scalding steam up to 75 feet into the air. A side attraction is the small herd of fainting goats, a breed that faints when startled. Unfortunately the goats have become accustomed to the noise from all the visitors and are not easily scared. But they do add to the charm of the place and kids really enjoy seeing them. There are some picnic tables, a snack bar and gift shop where you can pick up souvenirs. Old Faithful Geyser is a great day trip from the San Francisco area. Fun and interesting for adults and kids. The geyser is located at 1299 Tubbs Lane, Calistoga, CA. Admission adults: $8.00, kids 6-12 $3.00 under 6 free. Open seven days a week 9 AM - 5 PM View Larger Map
A sentence from one of Godfrey's letters shows it in another figure: "As I followed that path along the cliffs, I saw several gannets flying over the sea. The white of their wings in the sunlight is about the purest white on earth, I think. Afterwards as I walked over the hillside two little prayers formed themselves in my mind:Lord, make my heartPure as the gannet's wing,That has no partIn aught defiling. And make my loveDeep as the blue, blue sky,Steadfast aboveThe small clouds floating by.""May God in His mercy deal with us who are already on the field, that by the working of His Spirit we may be what we desire our recruits to be; and may He preserve us from the temperamentally unstable, the spiritually mediocre, and from all who put their hands to the plough and look back." This is the prayer of a comrade in China. It is our prayer too. The other day as I read the words, "Many are called, but few are chosen," which follow the parable of the mar
After such a long entry about my recent struggles, I was clicking links from a weblog I recently discovered, & God led me to some further encouragement, so much so that I could cry! (How ridiculous am I, eh?)
To man, being strong is being independent and being able to do things on our own. To God, strength is found in admitting weakness and total dependence on Him and relying on Him to enable us to all things through Him.

Our Lord is ever faithful, more than we can ever truly fathom! (& to think He even uses blogs to do it!)
BLiSTEX has come a long way from the glass pot with the yellow top that I remember (was that Blistex or Carmex? I can't remember but it was a good one). New to the line is their Lip Infusion Sheer Liquid Balm ($2.89 @ drugstore.com). It has all the lip benefiting ingredients you should come to expect: SPF 15, deeply penetrating and this one has no waxy feel to it. What I really like in addition to the minty smell is the roller ball tip that applies just enough of the formula evenly on lips.
God is faithful. Yes all of you who are believers are nodding your head and saying, " Yah I know that already." But no I mean really, God is faithful. He has a plan, a purpose, and a direction that He is faithfully and intentionally pursuing. In my life this plan is to make me more like Jesus Christ, and He is using every circumstance in my life to accomplish this.I am learning to trust that His hand is on my life no matter what I may be going through. These past few months especially have been a time of seeing first hand that He does care and always provides. I had been reading and studying a lot about living a simplier life, of not getting caught up in the materalism that surrounds us, and instead using the wealth of this land to further His kingdom. This was impressed on me more as I spent a few weeks living with a missionary family in NYC and observed how they lived by faith and trusted Him to always provide. My plans for the summer had been made in early spring. I would go to NYC
Many women wonder why their man or ex-man cheated on them. Especially when they put their heart and soul into a relationship just to feel empty and alone in the end. It turn, it makes them ask that infamous question, "What keeps a man faithful?" To answer that question... a man keeps a man faithful. A very good friend of mine was dating this guy and she was totally dedicated to this man. No matter what she decided, she put him and his feelings first; her life revolved around him. She was always considerate and treated him like a king. She gave her all and expected the same in return. In the end, she got nothing in return but a broken heart and a massive headache. Not only did he cheat on her with another woman, he cheated on her with several different women. She called me on the phone and asked "why?" "Why can't men be faithful?" "What can I do to keep a man faithful? What am I doing wrong?" The biggest mistake a woman can make is to blame herself when her man goes astray. Physiologi
A woman's husband had been slipping in and out of a coma for several months, yet she had stayed by his bedside every single day.One day, when he came to, he motioned for her to come nearer. As she sat by him, he whispered, eyes full of tears, "You know what? You have been with me through all the bad times. When I got fired, you were there to support me.When my business failed, you were there. When I got shot, you were by my side. When we lost the house, you stayed right here. When my health started failing, you were still by my side...You know what?" "What dear?", she gently asked, smiling as her heart began to fill with warmth."I think you're bad luck."
I think I can safely assume that everyone reading this has now heard about Kathy Griffin saying, "Suck it, Jesus" at the Emmy Awards. As expected, the self-appointed defenders of Christianity are up in arms, and many atheist bloggers are still laughing about it. American Atheists issued a statement condemning broadcasters for censoring Griffin's statement when they re-air the show. Something tells me that this will be yet another missed opportunity for some meaningful dialogue about the place of religion in our modern world.I assume that Griffin's comments were intended to have a comedic effect in that she was making fun of the near universal tendency for celebrities to thank fictional beings during their acceptance speeches. She is hardly the first to call attention to this bizarre behavior or to mock it. The difference seems to be that she mocked it at the awards show and that her comments have been interpreted as mocking Jesus too.Do I find her comments funny? Absolutely. I am dis
The very fact that the Scripture persistently survived the most deleterious conditions throughout its long history demonstrates that indefatigable scribes insisted on its preservation. The books were copied by hand for generations on highly perishable papyrus and animal skins in the relatively damp, hostile climate of Palestine; the dry climate of Egypt, so favorable to the preservation of such materials, provides a vivid contrast. Moreover, the prospects for the survival of texts were uncertain in a land that served as a bridge for armies in unceasing contention between the continents of Africa and Asia--a land whose people were the object of plunderers in their early history and of captors in their later history. That no other Israelite writings such as the Book of Yashar (e.g., 2 Sam 1:18) or the Diaries of the Kings (e.g., 2 Chr 16:11), survive from this period indirectly suggest the determination of the scribes to preserve the books that became canonical. Policing the Ranks - Faithful readers will recall a recent entry that brought attention to the plight of two 13 year-old boys, Cory Mashburn and Ryan Cornelison, who were arrested, strip searched and charged with sex abuse and harassment for slapping two of their female classmates on the buttocks. Despite what we may feel about the wisdom of preteen males making horseplay with their female peers, this appeared to represent an unseemly form of misconduct by law enforcement, particularly on the part of the district attorney, Bradley Berry. Thanks to the involvement of the community - which by now includes much of the right-of-center blogosphere - the boys may be eligible for a "civil compromise" which would allow them to avoid a criminal trial. While the case involving Cory and Ryan may well reach some sort of satisfactory ending, another circumstance involving alleged misconduct on the part of elected officials continues to progress, albeit without the possibility of the defendants avo
I don’t know whether it’s a by-product of living in the Southern U.S. - notoriously the most religious region in the country apart from Mormon Utah - or whether the simple fact of the matter is that advertisers really are crossing over into Eternal Damnation Territory, but I was rather amused by a commercial I heard on the radio today.
The advert was for a local jewelry company that I wish I’d caught the name of, but basically the commerical said “Buy our jewelry! God wants you to!” - only a little more subtle. “Gemstones are a gift from God and you should gift your loved ones with them,” basically. So of course, being the very mature grown up human being that I am, I spent the rest of the afternoon going back and forth with my son - “I am buying these shoes because God wants me to,” and “I’m buying a new purse because God wants me to,” snickering in contempt the whole time.
Of course, chocolate is also a gi
Why are some people Catholics while others are Protestants? And why are some people Buddhist, while others may be Hindus, animists, Jains, Baptists or any of the other hundreds of religions we have in the world. Why do some people vote Republican rather than Democrat, or Conservative, or Centre, or even Centre-Right, while still others vote Red, or Green or some other colourful political line. Moreover, how come some people think abortion is wrong while others profess that it is the right of the mother to choose, or how do you explain the cultures that dicate that adulteresses should be stoned to death, while others believe that killing even a bug is wrong. I propose that our beliefs for the most part are the product of our environment and sheer happenstance, since as someone so poetically

by NSCEvery team in the nation has football fans. It does not matter if the team is Duke, Temple, or Florida A&M for that matter; they have fans that follow them whole heartedly. Although schools such as Temple have been dreadful for the last decade there are those fans that will never give up and are filled with eternal optimism towards their team. These are the fans that ignore the 1-11 seasons that Temple and Duke are known for having. These are the fans that will tailgate at the stadium regardless of who their team is playing. These are the fans that will walk away from a 56-0 blowout finding something positive that their team accomplished regardless of the loss. While it may not seem like it Fresno State does have fans that are exactly like these eternally optimistic fans. Whether you want to call them the kool-aid generation of fans is up to you. I tend to look at them as the Fresno State Faithful, those who will be in the Bulldogs corner regardless of what happens with the footb
I just received an announcement for my tenth High Schoolreunion. I don't know if I'll attend, but it got me thinkingabout the incredible changes in my life between then and now.Ten years ago, one week after graduation, I became asecretary at a medium-size plastics company. I was attractive(brunette, gray eyes, great complexion, good figure), but I wasshy, demure and a virgin -- the perfect product of 12 years inCatholic schools!Guys in the plant, salesmen, and even some of the clientsflirted with me, and a few asked me out. I went out with some ofthem, but I guess the fact that I didn't put-out got aroundpretty quickly and the dates became fewer and fewer......The company had a nice tradition of giving a dozen roses tosecretaries on their birthday. On my eighteenth birthday, inNovember, my roses were accompanied with an invitation fromRobert Turner, a vice-president, to lunch at one of the nicestrestaurants in town. I've read some criticism of Rick Steves and his tours, but watching this video he did on faithful travel, I find a lot to admire about him. I usually don't watch videos over 5 minutes on YouTube, but this one held my interest for the full 12 minutes and gave me a lot to think about.Rick talks about how difficult it is for most Americans to go outside their comfort zone and travel in developing countries, but how important it is to see what is going on in the world. If you do visit a developing country, he hopes you will travel with an open mind. When you return home, remember your experience and let it influence how you live.Rick would like to see people become more active citizens, helping to support peace and justice in the world. He doesn't give specifics, but I imagine this can include charitable giving, volunteer work, and political activism. I don't think anyone can criticize that.
Hi Friends! Welcome to Tony's world of pets... oh! I forgot to tell you about my family. Well I have 2 dogs, 2 cats and 1 parrot and it's an expanding list. I will let you know about the newcomers in my family as and when they come in. Do you think pets are just pets... think again! I am sure that if you are having a pet you will say... obviously not! They are more than just being pets. Yes - they are the faithful friends and companions of humans. They are a part of the family and provide fun and enjoyment to the members. Every family needs a pet for companionship. The companionship of a pet in one's life plays a vital role in changing the life style of a person by bringing in joy and entertainment in a daily fixed schedule. No matter whether it's dog, cat or a rabbit, it's for sure that the the pet would give you all it can to make you happy, without asking anything in return.Researches have shown that pets especially dogs and in some cases miniature horses can relieve stress and

ABOUT YOU
You are an Experiencer
Your inquisitive nature, imagination, and hands-on practicality make you an EXPERIENCER.
Although you have an active imagination, you also concern yourself with the functional elements of things.
You are willing to experiment to find things that work the most efficiently.
Getting stuck in certain habits is boring to you—you’d rather find new experiences.
Accordingly, experiences are more important to you than objects—you’d rather spend your money and energy on events and adventures than on material things.
You like to contemplate a lot of options before making a decision, and you’re willing and able to consider a lot of different angles to problems.
You’re open to suggestions, and often rely on others to assess the merit of those suggestions.

The recent issue of Geez Magazine was one I was really looking forward to. Geez is a fresh perspective on faith and each issue has challenged me to consider a different perspective and a new way of thinking. The latest issue: Let’s Get Evangelical, was exciting for me because I was hoping to see an articulate take on Christianity and “Evangelicalism” that would help me put some of my own thoughts into words.
Overall the articles were good, but they weren’t quite what I was looking for. Geez seems a little more on the skeptic fringe then I thought they would be. However, I was just reading the last article in the magazine, and I got through the first paragraph and realized it deserved a post.
Here’s Bill McKibben on How a Faithful Nation Gets Jesus Wrong:

Dressed for comfort. And mayhem. From ESPN's Ivan Maisel:He may be loud and he may be big, but even Charlie Weis can be inconspicuous. On the night that Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn did not win the Heisman Trophy, the Fighting Irish coach stood behind a pillar at the far end of the lobby outside the Nokia Theater. If you came down the stairs into the lobby and craned your neck to the left, you might have seen Weis, which is how he liked it.When public figures like Weis are in a public setting -- that is, one they don't control, complete with civilians -- they lurk on the edge of it. To dive in would be to surrender their time and their shield. Speaking of which, I can remember being in South Bend some years ago for a banquet at which then-coach Lou Holtz would speak. He stood in the second-floor lobby of the athletic building, self-pinned against a trophy case, sipping a diet Coke and girding himself to go on stage. So Weis is off to one side, and I walk up and re-introduce mys
In his Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Christifideles Laici, Pope John Paul II wrote that, "Through their participation in the prophetic mission of Christ, 'who proclaimed the kingdom of his Father by the testimony of his life and by the power of his word,' the lay faithful are given the ability and responsibility to accept the Gospel in faith and to proclaim it in word and deed, without hesitating to courageously denounce evil." (No. 14).And yet, how often do the lay faithful encounter opposition from other members of the laity as well as priests and religious when they strive to fulfill their prophetic mission and to "courageously denounce evil." Why is this? Largely because, "To understand properly the lay faithful's position in the Church in a complete, adequate and specific manner it is necessary to come to a deeper theological understanding of their secular character in light of God's plan of salvation and in the context of the mystery of the Church" (Christifideles Laici,
