Readers, now my-blogmedia would like to remembering about the old famous rock band, Faith No More (FNM). FNM was an American rock band that formed in California in 1982. They splitted in 1998. They combined elements of heavy metal, funk, hard cord funk, progressive, hip hop, and jazz. Their last formation were: Mike Patton (vocal), Jon Hudson (guitar), Billy Gould (bass), Roddy Bottum (keyboard) a

Do you have any sort of section devoted to religion in your local paper? My local paper has one called "Faith and Values" that appears every Saturday. As might be expected from my location (Mississippi), this is exclusively Christian. Moreover, it clearly promotes Christianity in the community. Many newspapers do something like this, and some occasionally print op-ed articles written by atheists in this section. Not surprisingly, this infuriates some Christians. My local paper does not include material written by atheists in this section but has printed some op-ed articles written by a local atheist in the Opinion section. These have, of course, generated some lively discussion on the paper's Internet forums. Most of the discussion is civil, but there is sometimes a sense that local Christi

Rediscovering faith I just came back from a phenomenal PASE meeting and I just could not wait until tomorrow to type my thoughts down. Like in my previous entry, it has been an exhausting week and usually I am sleepy by 8pm. Even though I have never sleep before 10 pm before, I thought that this week will be history in the making for me:p haha. I can literally fall asleep anywhere, anytime. Some of you may be able to testify to that.So today was the same too, I was super sleepy even in class and I simply wanted to get home to rest for a few hours before PASE. As usual too, I fell asleep in the bus, it was a sound sleep and I almost missed my stop! The bus is the second place where I always sleep. I know, pathetic right. So after the usual packing and cleaning up, I was at PASE, this time no

Hollywood may seem like a dark, far-away land to many traditional churchgoers. Entertainment headlines celebrate celebrities who are comfortable with drinking, drugs, sex and pregnancy outside of marriage. Many movies and television shows are so violent or racy that many Christians avoid them.
There is light in the dark world of film and television.

A friend of mine recently converted to the Baha'i faith. If you've never heard of it, it's a unitarian faith the comes most directly out of Islam. It affirms that all the founders of each religion came from God, and that God progressively revealed more of his faith. Baha'u'llah, the Baha'i founder, was supposed to be the last prophet of this age who would draw all the religions of the world into one with his teachings. Baha'is see other religions as valid and correct, but theirs is the most correct and pure.Such a poorly-known religion, with such tolerant principles and modern sympathies doesn't alarm the religious watchmen in the US. They would see it as either a useless outpouring of Unitarianism in disguise, or a secret way of injecting Islam into the culture. Baha'is are unlike M
From A Day At a Time, May 6 : " When we're troubled and can't see a way out, it's only because we imagine that all solutions depend on us. The Program teaches us to let go of overwhelming problems, and let G-d handle them for us..... May I know that I am never without the help of G-d, that I am never helpless when He is with me... Despair is the absence of faith."This is not so different from the last post I wrote, but it's a really important message, so I think I'll stick with it again today. When I feel despair- that horrible feeling of helplessness and hopelessness, it is only because my "faith switch" is not set to "on". Despair comes out of that scary place of thinking and feeling that it's all up to me, that things couldn't get worse, that I can't survive or stand the current situatio
I think so often we search for feelings & experiences, forgetting that the truth of God’s Word needs to be looked to FIRST. We can only gain the knowledge & discernment we need through studying His Word, not basing our relationship with God too greatly on feelings or experiences. This case has really knocked me for six. An Austrian man kept his daughter Elisabeth locked up in a cellar for twenty four years, had sex with her, fathered seven children, three of which he and his wife legally adopted (his wife claims she didn't know her own daughter was the mother), the other three kids lived with Elisabeth in the cellar and never saw daylight. The last child died at birth and the abuser threw it in an incinerator. It is just so horrendous it is impossible to get one's head around it.Usually you try and forget that people like that exist and are free and are walking around. And sometimes it is so hard to look my older daughter in the face when she is scared about something she saw in a movie and tell her that nothing bad is going to happen to her, that I will stop bad p

I agree with my blog-mate that Phil needs to be sent to SWB. He cannot be allowed to continue to be knocked around and thus lose confidence in his abilities.Everyone needs to remember, though, that Phil is 21 years old. We need to remember the level of domination that he exhibited throughout his minor league career. We need to remember that this is the same guy who was essentially our best starter from September 1 through the (short) postseason. More importantly though, Phil needs to remember that. When you are as talented as Hughes is you don't simply lose that talent between October and April. When the talent is there, there are 3 things that can get in the way of being successful - 1. mechanics, 2. approach and 3. injury. As we have heard nothing of an injury I believe we are talking abo

Adapted from Life After Death, by Deepak Chopra (Harmony Books, 2007). Faith healing brings together three domains, Akasha: Pure consciousness (God), a subtle event (prayer), and the physical body. The light so often seen by those who are healed is a subtle energy, which can also be perceived as an electrical or nervous charge in the body, a seizure, rapture or dizziness. In her book, The Healing Touch of Mary, Cheri Lomonte recounts the following story. Dawn J. was a devout Catholic who as a young woman had prayed for a vision of the Virgin Mary. Soon after she left her parents’ house, she experienced an actual visitation. This created a sense of awe and humility; she hardly felt worthy to behold the Mother of God in the flesh. But Dawn came to feel that she had been chosen as a me
I've long been an admirer of Rev. Jim Lawson [Pictured], and I urge you to read this article that contains an interview with him. For black people to pretend that kind of Christian fundamentalism, which justified slavery and justifies racism, is a colleague in anything is to be blind to the realities that we're facing. We who have suffered and do suffer should be the most sensitive to the suffering of others. We don't want this undeserved suffering put on us, and we should therefore, clearly, not participate in putting such suffering on others. We ought to know better.''``Much of Christianity in the United States has been more infl

I came across the referenced article this morning on my appointed rounds. The headline was:McCain Keeps His Faith to Himself, At Church and In His CampaignThen, I found this quote:In Vietnam, a pared-down church service provided some routine in captivity. As the senior lieutenant in his Hanoi cell block, McCain led an 11 a.m. Sunday service after the prisoners' morning meal of ``weed soup,'' said Swindle, a former commissioner on the Federal Trade Commission who is advising McCain's campaign. When the guards had cleared, the senior officer would cough or tap the letter "c,'' signaling to other captives that it was time to worship. The service began by reciting the 23rd Psalm, though "we did it in the plural,'' said Swindle, "so it was 'Yea, though we walk through the valley of the shadow o
By Rev. J. Emmette Weir, For The Guardian:
The recent incident here in Grand Bahama, in which some misguided but evidently, devout religious folk, sought to achieve the resuscitation (I refuse to dignify such bizarre behaviour with the term "resurrection") of a cadaver up to the eighth day by means of the exercise of faith "through prayer and fasting" certainly requires most careful consideration, and profound theological reflection at this time.
Such a procedure represents a gross misunderstanding of the teaching of the Bible — a dangerous departure from sound Christian theology and the demonstration of a lack of faith, the very virtue it purports to express.
While much has been said by religious leaders on this subject, clearly indicating that it is not in keeping with a proper
Rod LawBritish National Party district councillors have been slammed as a "disgrace to the council and the community" after condemning a multi-faith forum representing various religions which has been set up in the district.BNP councillor Rod Law told Tuesday's council meeting: "Forums like these are an absolute waste of resources for the council and are only put together to promote diversity and multi-culturalism which we feel is absolutely detrimental to the very fabric of society. I would like to think there are enough councillors here to very much vote against this motion and not let this council be bogged down with politically correct clubs like these as we see in many inner city councils."BNP group leader Pat Richardson said: "The idea is it's a matter of freedom of choice, those who

At the age of two I started to teach Ethan how to pray. The prayers are simple but I guess had no real meaning to a toddler just starting to talk. I always start my prayer with Ethan by saying Thank you Jesus for today and so on.As Ethan grew older and perhaps sire, he started to ask who Jesus is. In the simplest terms possible I explained that Jesus is the son of God. Of course that started another round of questions like who is God?It was hard explaining to a child the essence of God, or so I thought.Yesterday, I told Ethan that my very dear cousin is gravely sick. I told him that I am so sad. Ethan asked if my cousin has medicines and doctors? I said yes. Then mom, all we have to do is ask Jesus to make her well, Ethan said.I was dumbfounded! Here, is a five-year-old boy showing me
I love watching sports. The conflict. The drama.
One thing I’ve noticed about great athletes is that they have a wonderful ability to live in the present.
It’s impossible to be a great athlete by doing anything but living in the moment.
Past losses or wins have no affect on the game today.
If they wallow in the agony of past defeats or if they ride on the glory of past successes, they won’t win the game today.
It’s easier to wallow. It’s easier to glory.
May I be found running.
Dias atrás recebi um e-mail de um amigo que vinha entitulado como "lição de vida". When I first heard he was coming, my first thought was that this was going to be an awful week of Pope Benedict preaching, lecturing and telling of how awful our nation was — and how awful the Catholics of this country are. And now, a few days into his apostolic visit to America, I am delighted to have been wrong. And, after three years of doubting Josef Ratzinger as the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, today I stand proud that he is the leader of my church — and I am so impressed by the incredible care and warmth he’s shown in the short time he’s been here.Equally, I am so pleased the holy father has done something few in the Catholic Church have dared to do — and that is, to address the sexual abuse scandal that has plagued the American wing of the Roman Church for so many

Funny that this is the current series we are going through at church: Unshakeable Faith. The series began on the Sunday morning following our doctor’s appointment on Thursday, March 27, where we were told that we had lost our baby, Reagan. It was simply the hardest news I’ve ever had to receive and the toughest test of my faith in my walk with Christ thus far. God has shown himself in so many situations in my life in just the past 8 years of choosing to following Him daily. I began walking intimately with Christ while Super Dad and I were separated. As I was looking to fill a void left by Super Dad’s leaving, I was able to find true, unconditional love in Christ. My dedicated relationship with Him began in July 2000. My faith was new, but it continued to grow as I saw God’s pre

We all watched last night as Girardi sent Kyle Farnsworth out for a second inning of work - something Joe Torre never did at all last year, and hadn't done since the middle of 2006 - and we all saw the results - 2 runs on 3 hits in the inning, including a 440 foot blast off the bat of John Buck. Sent in by Jim RLI was raised Catholic and attended Catholic school from kindergarten through high school. I read the Bible often and prayed every night. God was very real to me through college. During college I went to church every Sunday with my grandmother.I quit reading the Bible when I got to the end of 2 Samuel and it tells the story of God killing 70,000 Israelites via an epidemic because David took a census that God told him to take. I just couldn't accept that story. I had a pretty liberal view of the Bible, but this story couldn't be true. My God wouldn't do that. The God I prayed to, talked to wouldn't do that...couldn't do that. The crisis of faith was never quite settled, but the feelings that story gave me eventually died down. After college I still went to church in Columbia,
The vocal lobbying of Catholic leaders in Scotland over the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill has undoubtedly raised the hackles of many commentators concerning the place of organised religion in public life – specifically the political arena. As a result, the demanding task of creating a durable public discourse for discussing ethics and understanding science has been reduced to voter management and angry counter-assertion.
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has called for faith to be given a central role in tackling the world's problems.Mr Blair said faith should be rescued from extremism and be a force for progress, in his first speech on faith since becoming a Catholic. He said politicians found it difficult to talk about faith because they "may be considered weird".His speech was accompanied by a noisy anti-war protest and silent vigil by Catholic peace group Pax Christi.Mr. Blair, who converted to Catholicism months after stepping down as prime minister last summer and is now a Middle East envoy, told an audience of 1,600 at Westminster Cathedral he was often asked if faith was important to his politics."If you are someone 'of faith' it is the focal point of belief in your life. Today's Scripture “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). Today's Word from Joel and Victoria What are you hoping for in your life today? The Bible says that faith gives substance to the things you hope for. Notice this verse starts by saying, “Now faith…” It’s not “later” faith or “one day” faith. We have to believe that God is working behind the scenes right now. Faith is simply believing that God is a good and faithful God—that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Can you believe that God wants to move in your life, today? Do you believe He can provide for you need, today? Do you believe He can heal your relationships, today? Do you believe He can give you that promotion, today? Whatever you a

I should have posted this sooner, but it has been difficult to write.Echoing the words of St. Paul, I am reminded of a sincere faith when I think of my grandmother. Sometimes, when I was little, I would stay at her house whenever I got too sick to go to school. One of the reasons I always loved staying there was that she had statues, and icons, and pictures of Jesus all throughout the house. The most comfortable place in the world was on her couch, underneath a blanket, with those Catholi
Given the philosophical anti-God arguments established by the theory of Evolution, and its controversy, it would be unwise for a Christian not to take the time to look into this theory in great detail. In the same way, Jesus is saying that a little bit of faith can bring tremendous results! As a believer in Him, you already have enough faith on the inside of you to overcome any obstacle. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead actually dwells in you! It doesn’t matter if you grew up in church or not; it doesn’t matter what you know or don’t know; God wants to work in your life today. And you may not see how, but all you have to do is believe God. With God, all things are

Bible Questions Answered:If we have enough faith, can we live without troubles?Ernie W./ Liverpool, UK Bible Answers:No. Matthew 10:24,25 KJV[24] The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.[25] It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master,...” The plain truth is that Jesus suffered, while in the flesh, and if He did, we shall also. Isaiah 53:3,4 KJV[3] He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed him not.[4] Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. "Police are investigating an 11-year-old girl's death from an undiagnosed, treatable form of diabetes after her parents chose to pray for her rather than take her to a doctor."An autopsy showed Madeline Neumann died Sunday from diabetic ketoacidosis, a condition that left too little insulin in her body, Everest Metro Police Chief Dan Vergin said."[For the full article, see here.]We've all heard of these cases before, where parents use their "faith" as a substitute for getting a critically ill child needed medical attention which could conceivably save that child's life.Beyond the foolishness and gullibility of such parents in using the "faith" argument, the fact is that such misuse of the "faith" argument can be seen in many professing Christians' reaction to LGBT people. The same ignoran
Today's Scripture “…the life which I now life in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God…” (Galatians 2:20). Today's Word from Joel and Victoria Faith is all around us. People have faith in so many different things: faith that a friend will be true, faith that your job is taking you on a certain career path, faith that the chair you are sitting on is going to hold you up! Faith is simply believing in something. But there are different kinds, or levels, of faith. There’s a difference between having faith in God and having the faith of God. When you open your heart to the God kind of faith, you’re actually allowing Him to believe through you. The God kind of faith will cause you to believe for things when you don’t even know how they’ll happen. And it probably won’
Picturing Faith: Photography and the Great Depression# Author:Colleen McDannell # Format:PDF 1.5MB# Page Count: 336 pages# Publisher: Yale University Press (November 10, 2004)# Language: English# ISBN-10: 0300104308# ISBN-13: 978-0300104301McDannell presents a persuasive case that religion has been overlooked in our historical understanding of the enduring photographs of the Great Depression. She opens the book by comparing Dorothea Lange's most famous portrait, "Migrant Mother," with a less famous image that presents a very different image of a Depression-era woman, this one with arms outstretched in a posture of outright Christian joy. Snapping the picture at a revival meeting in a dilapidated garage, Lange took great pains to record the woman's words as she testified about her strong fa

Madeline Kara Neumann is shown working on chalk art last summer during downtown Wausau's Chalk Fest.WESTON, Wis. — An 11-year-old girl died after her parents prayed for healing rather than seek medical help for a treatable form of diabetes, police said Tuesday.Everest Metro Police Chief Dan Vergin said Madeline Neumann died Sunday."She got sicker and sicker until she was dead," he said.Vergin said an autopsy determined the girl died from diabetic ketoacidosis, an ailment that left her with too little insulin in her body, and she had probably been ill for about 30 days, suffering symptoms like nausea, vomiting, excessive thirst, loss of appetite and weakness. The girl's parents, Dale and Leilani Neumann, attributed the death to "apparently they didn't have enough faith," the police chief
My friend, Candace Chellew-Hodge just came out with a book entitled, "Bulletproof Faith: A Spiritual Survival Guide for Gay and Lesbian Christians," that I wanted to suggest you purchase.
Although I have yet to read it, I know her work quite well, and have been privileged to contribute articles to her excellent website, Whosoever, for many years. From teleconferences, interviews, and knowing her other writings, I'm confident that this book should be a superb addition to any library.
I wanted to let you know about this book as soon as it appeared on the shelves, and I just got word this morning that it's now available.
The book can be purchased here.
From Twenty Four Hours a Day, March 26, 2008 - “Faith is the bridge between you and G-d…If all were seen and known, there would be no merit in doing right…. There could be no morality without free will. We must make the choice ourselves.” I like this comparison to a bridge, because it reminds me of the quote “All the world is a narrow bridge. And the most important point is not to fear at all”. The only reason why a person would not be afraid to cross a shaky narrow bridge is because he has faith and trust that he will not fall. Or faith that if he does fall, he will be caught by loving arms and will be safe. Faith is something that cannot be measured, but can often be tested. We can do all that is possible to protect ourselves, but in truth, we have no guarantees
Saud Al-Faisal There are two very frustrating things about this article in the Arab News. It provides no details on what kind of inter-faith dialogue will occur. In what context and where? And will Saudi Arabia address the prickly issue of freedom of religion in this exchange of dialogue? I also wish that Prince Saud Al-Faisal was at the conference to personally give his speech. I have great respect for Prince Saud, but his presence would have sent a much stronger message.Saud Calls for More Inter-Faith Dialogue By Ghazanfar Ali Khan Arab News RIYADH — Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal called for holding more dialogues among different religions and cultures at a time when anger continues to simmer in the Muslim world following Western attacks on Islam and its scriptures. “Rath
