I used to see them all the time, flitting about through the woods of my childhood home. I would catch the glimmer of their wings in early spring sunbeams, or glinting through the fir boughs in late autumn afternoons. I would soar after them on the wings of my imagination and I can’t exactly [...]

About a year and a half ago I was contacted by [an unnamed all ages graphic novel publisher] to draw some Disney Fairies pages on spec, as they were going after the license. They obviously didn't get it (as Tokyopop now publishes Disney Fairies manga), but it was pretty cool to be thought of for the project, anyway. Especially given that I was already a fan of the editor.Me? Drawing Tinker Bell for

: London, UKJessica DaviesKatherine BlamireSounds like: sorrow, pain, and beauty.I came across the Smoke Fairies completely by chance when they opened for somebody else at a tiny gig over a year ago. I can't for the life of me remember who they were opening for. That's in large part due to the fact that I was too busy falling absolutely head over heels for Jess and Kaf's aching, heartbreakingly lo
Hey there. Just a little something that I got from my wife via Email and I thought was hilarious. Hmmm.... Now I wonder if she's trying to tell me something by this. =o)The Married CoupleA married couple, in their early 60's, was celebrating their 44thwedding anniversary at a quiet, romantic little restaurant. Suddenly, a tiny beautiful Fairy appeared on their table. She said: "For being such a
Though I’ve always loved and believed in Tinkerbelle, I’d probably see this as a detraction instead of a feature. Especially if I was looking to use the spare bedroom as an office.

This is another photo I took myself, of one of my best friends in my front yard. I can take pretty much any photo of a person and turn them into a fairy, but some positions are better than others. For me to turn you (or anyone else) into a fairy, just send me a picture of the person in whatever clothes you want, and make sure that there is nothing in front of the person that you don’t want in th

As a child I was enamored of the idea of fairies and spent long hours making fairy houses with intricately woven stories from my imagination to go along with them. Carol of May Dreams Gardens awakened me with her flight of fancy into "fairy names" from a fairy name generator. I already have a fairy name, "Ilona"! that's right. Discovered that trivia tidbit when I went on an exploration into the meaning of the name, Ilona. Tündér Ilona was the queen of the fairies in Hungarian mythology. I prefer the lighter, brighter view of fairies and fairyland...it can get rather dark, you know.I found the cutest book on making "fairy houses":Technorati Tags: garden fairies,

I have been working at full tilt lately, a lot of illustration work with the usual tight deadlines. I hate tight deadlines, so uncomfortable! So the result has been far too much time sitting at my graphics tablet, the computer going into meltdown and I have completely forgotten who that bloke is asleep in my bed! Actually I am working an an interesting book for Uganda which requires a huge amount of research, simple things like a toilet, a tap and a kitchen are so different. It is too easy to forget that this world is such a huge and varied place and as little people read the pictures just as much as they read the words (actually more I suspect) it is very important to draw things that they recognise. So there I am, red eyed and very tired when what should arrive but an instant pick me up, a box of delights, a fairy tea party, all stuck about with fairy footprints and glittery pictures. This is such a good thing, a complete stranger puts together a beautiful selection of little treat

Photographer Charles Castle is numbed with grief following the death of his beautiful bride. He goes off to war, working in the trenches as a photographer. Following the war and still in grief Charles is given some photographs purporting to be of fairies. His search for the truth leads him to Burkinwell, a seemingly peaceful village seething with secrets where he becomes drawn into a web of passion, romance and violence.--

Editor's Note: The editorial staff (e.g. Mrs. Euphrony) has read this post and found its numerous grammatical errors detract from the normal quality of this blog. The author has been placed on probationary status and the errors corrected.Little Euphrony has been a talkative one this weekend. Her imagination is great to see at work, and her heart is so sweet. Here are a few of here her conversation points for the weekend.First, fairies visit her every might night to put strong glue on her fingers, toes, arms, nose, ears, etc. so that daddy cannot pretend to pull them off (note, it is strong glue, so it is stronger than daddy). Previously, Lil'E did this herself; but since I've tried to catch her just waking up she has apparently hired out the job to fairies to make sure it gets done before I see her. The fairies spent all weekend with her, with Lil'E carrying them around cupped in her hands and playing with them at meals. She even (pretends) to order food for them, so they don't go
Disney has gone fairy crazy. Tinker Bell and all of her fairy friends even have their own web site now. I find it strange that Tinker Bell is considered a heroine. After all she did try to murder Wendy.
I realized I never posted final versions of that EDiM fairy reading a book - she was meant for a banner for the awesome Notes On Design blog. Here she is atop the newsletter:

Happy Friday the 13th! What are Honeymoon Fairies you ask? Well, I shall tell you. Long ago, back at the dawn of time, like the late1970's or so, the Shyne family sisters and cousins began a tradition. Their beloved Sister and new brother in law would return from a blissful relaxing vacation where thoughts of family and stress were wiped clean from their thoughts. Upon return to their charming little homes they'd find the house had gone under a series of practical jokes while they had been out. (Isn't that th last time you ask your sister, Kate, to take in your mail!)
It is rumored that short changed (short sheeted?) beds, plastic wrap over toilets and macaroni filled luggage in the closets were pranks you came home to. Painfully reminding you of your family who missed you while you were away.
Hurumph. Yes, terribly funny. For how ever much I can complain out what happened to The Villa, it does seem like The Boy and I got off easy this time. Wet Paint banners we
No really, they can! ”The Happiest Place on Earth” - best known as Disneyland - is now allowing all walks of life the opportunity to have a fairytale wedding. This includes, gays, straights, etc. They are now allowed to purchase the “Fairytale Wedding Package” at not only Disneyland and Disneyworld, but the cruise ships are included too!
“The company said it made the change after being contacted by a gay couple who wanted to use the wedding service, which offers ceremonies at Disneyland in California, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disney’s cruise ships.”

I wonder what Isaiah Washington has to say about this! Haha, boy oh boy .. Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” is gonna have a field day with this one! Okay let me stop before my inbox gets flooded with hate mail.
At the moment I am reading Peter Pan (original edition title: Peter and Wendy) by J.M Barrie. There is an interesting place in the book when Peter, Wendy, John, Michael and Tinker Bell reach Neverland. The pirates can see them because of Tinker Bell’s light and they get the big gun out to let it fly eventually. First, Wendy, John and Michael want Tink to go away. But of course Peter does not abandon her (good Peter).
“Then tell her,” Wendy begged, “to put out her light.”
“She can’t put it out. That is about the only thing fairies
can’t do. It just goes out of itself when she falls asleep, same
as the stars.”
“Then tell her to sleep at once,” John almost ordered.
“She can’t sleep except when she’s sleepy. It is the only
other thing fairies can’t do.”
“Seems to me,” growled John, “these are the only two things
worth doing.” (from Project Gutenberg)
I like this part. B
So why am I sitting outside a cafe in Cesky Krumlov? What was it that brought me to this place? Well, I suppose there were lots of points at which this journey started. It was like a river - a multitude of sources all coming together. I don't suppose I can identify all of them. But over the next few posts, I' ll explore some of them. Here is the first - when I was a child I loved fairytales (podhadky in the Czech). I devoured every fairytale book in the library - the Green Fairy Book, the Blue, the Yellow. And I watched the wonderful dramatisations of fairytales that were so much part of British children's 60s tv. Well looking back they were probably pretty rubbish, but I loved them. They were usually badly dubbed and produced in what was then refered to as the Eastern Bloc, including Czechoslovakia. I have seen some more recently, here in the Czech Republic where I am told they are rerun regularly. The Czechs love fairytales, it is part of their pysche. Grown adults will talk with s
This is one of the best sites I have found on fairies and well worth a visit. The Banshee"The bean-sidhe (woman of the fairy may be an ancestral spirit appointed to forewarn members of certain ancient Irish families of their time of death. According to tradition, the banshee can only cry for five major Irish families: the O'Neills, the O'Briens, the O'Connors, the O'Gradys and the Kavanaghs. Intermarriage has since extended this select list. Whatever her origins, the banshee chiefly appears in one of three guises: a young woman, a stately matron or a raddled old hag. These represent the triple aspects of the Celtic goddess of war and death, namely Badhbh, Macha and Mor-Rioghain.) She usually wears either a grey, hooded cloak or the winding sheet or grave robe of the unshriven dead. She may also appear as a washer-woman, and is seen apparently washing the blood stained clothes of those who are about to die. In this guise she is known as the bean-nighe (washing woman)." to find out mo
