It has been reported this morning that Fahrenheit 451 (Ray Bradbury) will be hitting the big screens. Frank Darabont will be writing the script and directing the big-screen adaptation and he wants none other than Tom Hanks for the lead role.
Although AICN is reporting this, I’ll have to take it with a pinch of salt until I see some hard facts! Call me sceptical if you will! If they do make the movie, however, they’ve made a good choice with Tom Hanks. Hanks will play Guy Montag - a “Fireman” whose job it is to go round, burning books and the houses that store them, while prosecuting those who own them.
The story is set in the future where books have been completely replaced by interactive entertainment. When Montag begins to question a society that would want to destroy books, his life and the lives of those he loves become in danger.

I finished another one. This time, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. I'd been meaning to read this book for awhile, but I'd never gotten around to it until now. It's a fantastic book! And really powerful. It made me reconsider the amount of time I spend watching TV, it had me wondering if I really listen to the people I care about, it made me more aware of how little I am aware of current events. If ever a book made me really stop and think about my, then this book was it. It's set in a future where books are banned and no one thinks for themselves in order to achieve happiness. No one listens to what other people have to say, everyone's lives are very superficial and based around silly nonsensical TV programmes. Life is very fastpaced and surrounded by noise and chatter and materialism. The protaganist, Guy Montag is a fireman whose main responsibilites are to burn books and to burn the houses of people who still own books. He meets a strange girl who asks him unusual questions and
Guy Montag is a fireman; not a fireman that extinguishes fires, but one that ignites them. He lives in a time (somewhere in the future) when having books is illegal. When the people who own them are found out, the fire brigade is being called to burn down the house together with the books. Guy is happy with his job until on one call a woman refuses to leave her books and burns together with them. On that occasion Guy grabs a book with him; there must be something in books if people don’t want to leave them even when that means their death. From that moment on his entire life turns upside down and he has to make some difficult choices and decisions.
This is one of those books that you can’t put down the moment you pick it up for the first time. It is also a book that leaves a mark. Even when you finished the book the story stays in your system.
