Mammillaria plumosa is native to Nuevo Leon, Mexico and is commonly known as "Feather Cactus" because of the feathery spines. Most Mammillarias are native to Mexico but they can be found from the southwestern US all the way south to northern parts of South America.The cute and cuddly appearance of the Feather Cactus is a bit deceiving as I learned earlier when I was repotting this one-it has some real sharp spines below the innocent looking surface. The colors of the flower for this cactus vary from white to pink and are more striking than the flowers on my plant. The feathery spines of this cactus are also usually a very pure white color but they are prone to staining from watering from above or becoming dusty. When I first received this cactus it fell over and got covered with dirt and the feathery spines have looked dirty since then. The growth of the spines is not just attractive but it serves a purpose, they've adapted to grow out in this manner to provide shade for the plant.Min

I saw this tonight and it reminded me of my Aunt Mattie. She used to rate games by how many body parts twitched when she played. One foot and two foot games were her favorites. I bet she would have loved the Wii.
Tonight was hell at work. We didn’t close until 9pm. We normally close at 7 on Sundays. How I HATE holiday hours. And its only going to get worse from here on out.
Meanwhile the place was a wreck because no one cares to clean up after themsleves. I bet of you all, take pity on those of us who work retail, if you decide you don’t want it, put it back from where you got it from, or at the very least give it to a clerk and we can put it in a return bin and thats one less thing we have to pick up at the end of the night.
There are also the people who I think make messes because they ENJOY making us have to clean up after them. What makes me think that is the 22 FEATHER BOAS i had to pick up off the floor of the foam aisle and
My parrot Gizmo has always had beautiful feathers. She is dressed like a little clown, with a white shirt, orange pantaloons, a black hat, and a green back.
A few months ago I noticed a lot of feathers at the bottom of her cage each night, and that her beautiful white chest and pantaloons were thinning out. Gizmo has never been a feather-picker, so I was very worried. She was eating and drinking well, preening, playing and singing.
I took her to the vet and apparently she is going through a tougher-than-usual moult (where birds’ old feathers are replaced by new ones). The vet said she was probably uncomfortable with the feather loss and all the new feather sheathes sprouting up all over her body, but she kept her happy demeanor the whole way through. She’s almost done with this moult, still looks a little ratty, but better.
These two pics show the missing feathers on her chest and legs. It was actually worse, these photos were taken after she started growing them back in.
