      Eyeshadow Tips For Asian Eyes
I recently asked a Sephora beauty adviser about how to best apply eye makeup for Asian women who do not have creases such as myself. Here is the reply I received and I thought I'd pass it on for anyone who needs it.Dear Christine,Thank you for contacting Sephora.com.Asian eyes are a beautiful, delicate shape and very easy to enhance. However, the how-to rules are different for Asian eyes, because

      Review: Makeup: Kanebo T’estimo eyeshadow
Kanebo’s T’estimo makeup line is to be replaced with a new line called Coffret D’or. So, if you are a fan of T’estimo, you won’t have long more before they are phased out totally. It might take a while here in Malaysia though - no one seems to know yet about the phasing out, and that the current T’estimo collection is the last for the line. Be that as it may, I thought I’d review the single eyeshadows from T’estimo. These are the eyeshadow singles I have presently. They come in a transparent square case, rather like that of Shu Uemura. However, you can easily depot it into a palette just as I have done. The texture of the eyeshadows are slightly sheer but pigmented, and shimmery. The shimmer puts off some people, but I like it because it adds definition and it isn’t so super shimmery as to be glittery. Some textures are slightly more metallic than others but I never got round to figuring out the system. What I like about T’

I’d always thought that YSL or Yves St. Laurent Beaute was very old school in terms of makeup. It was something that “aunties” used. But that was until I got my hands on their duo eyeshadows. YSL eyeshadow duos come in square pans in a sturdy plastic case, with 2 sponge tip applicators and a large mirror in the cover. I don’t like applicators that are packaged with the product so I usually have nothing good to say about them. Further, I tend to use my fingers to apply my eyeshadows. Which brings me to the quality of the eyeshadows - par excellance! I was not expecting too much from them to be honest. But I was blown away by the quality. The eyeshadow feels hard to the touch, but the colour is easy to pick up and deposit. The colour pigments tend to be on the slightly sheer side, but its easy to build up colour. Darker shades show up better and having a slightly sheer texture means you are less likely to make mistakes. The duos have a slight shimmer to them whic

      How To: Fix Broken Eyeshadow
Accept it,  you know it’s going to happen eventually. Whether you’re franticly late for an event, or using your favorite, too-expensive color, chances are you might drop it. And it might break. Fortunately, there are those genius few who have the ability to repair your smashed shadow. They’re passing the knowledge onto to you via Youtube. You’ll need a ziplock bag (sandwich or quart), a rolling pin or hairspray can, a quarter, a bobby pin, an old tshirt or linen, rubbing alcohol, and a dropper bottle to reconstruct your shattered shadow. A big thank you to Youtube user EnKoreMakeup for this and his many other instructional videos! Do you have a favorite YouTube how to video? Post the link below! Kanebo Kate Glam Trick eyeshadow palette
I was enamoured with this eyeshadow palette from Kate by Kanebo when I first saw it online and read the rave reviews on it. The reviewers basically gave it a thumbs up for colour and texture, and the one most raved about was the dark blue palette (BU-1) for what they say would make a lovely smokey eye. So, understandably I was all hyped up about it. Over the weekend I finally found some time to check out Kate cosmetics again, and saw that this palette is finally here in Malaysia and retailing for about RM42.90 or so at Watsons. Eagerly, I tested the tester sets for all the colours and unfortunately, I came away disappointed. Firstly, I found that the colour was too sheer. It would have been much better had it been more pigmented because there is a lot of shimmer. So, when an eyeshadow is sheer with a lot of shimmer, you tend to just end up with lots of shimmer on your lid and not much colour. Secondly, the texture. It felt soft but hard in the sense that there wasn’t much colour

      Eyeshadow For Green Eyes
By: Deon Melchior Choosing eyeshadow for green eyes can be a lot of fun, as they are fit for a wide range of colors from turquoise to chartreuse to forest green to bright light green and so on.Many tips are available for green eyes make up, but there are exceptions to every rule. So, the best advice is to try everything until you find out what looks best for your eyes. How To Choose An EyeshadowThere are many eyeshadow tones that can work great for your eyes. I like using different types of browns, more of chocolate tones. I also like to enhance the eye color by using browns and dark greens with copper or gold highlights.Another great choices as highlighters are apricots and taupes. If you want a glamorous look, go for coppers and golds. You may use also dark purples, plumes and metallics. Dark green eyes look the best with deep purple tones. What To AvoidAs there are many colors that work good with green eyes, there are also colors that should be avoided.By any means, do not choose blue.

      Vogue Make-Up Trend: Blue Eyeshadow
Blues have been making its rounds on Bollywood's socialites as well, Priyanka rocked it at the Spice Mobile Event, as well as Vidya Balan. Add a hint of blue, to make your eyes pop. Blue eyeshadow like that picture can be a tad bit overbearing, so try to use a darker hue.Rec: M.A.C. Freshwater Eyeshadow (Bright summersky blue)

Review: Makeup: L’oreal Star Secrets Color Appeal eyeshadow quad
The L’oreal Color Appeal eyeshadow quad is a limited edition quad created for the L’oreal celebrity ambassadors. There are 5 quads available in 5 different shades, but I got the Lavender/Blue one which is promoted by Gong Li. These eyeshadow quads are Asia Exclusive I think which means they are only available in Asia. In the USA, the Star Secrets collection has a trio not a quad. The 4 shades in the quad are highly shimmery and 1 of them is almost metallic in texture and colour. They are: White - shimmery white Silver - metallic silver Dark Blue - shimmery purple blue Lavender - shimmery lilac/lavender The texture is quite smooth and applies well. Be careful with the silver because its easy to overdo. The white and silver shades are more of accent shades whilst the lavender is meant to be the main shade. However, I found that all the quads are lacking in a real dark shade for lining and accent purposes. Used by itself, I don’t think the dark blue in this quad is dark

      Hot new trend: Blue Eyeshadow
Where I come from, everybody is jumping on the Eyeshadow Bandwagon. Every kind you could imagine: matte, cream, powder, sticks, slicked (etc), and the colours! Oh the colours! A rainbow of one's wildest dreams. But one colour in particular seems to be dominating the shadow scene: blue. Light blue, dark blue, shiny, peppered and all that jazz!Mym mum is currently studying naturopathy, which has resulted in an extreme domestic chemical detox. Basically what this means is a surge of undesirable knowledge of the real ingredients in cosmetics. But don't worry, I won't panic any of you with those details right now. I just felt like complaining about this annoyingly incovenient situation. Lol.But I will say that one particular cosmetic ingredient, Coaltar, is quite hazardous and is the base of alot of blue eyeshadows. I'm pretty sure I'm allergic to this ingredient (but even if I wasn't, I'm sure I wouldn't be "allowed" to use any product which contains it), so that means I'm denied

      Bobbi Brown Metallics eyeshadow trio
Bobbi Brown collections are usually blah to me. But this new Fall 2007 collection of Metallics eyeshadow trios have my heart getting all a-flutter. Shimmer isn’t usually advocated by Bobbi Brown so I was very surprised to see this collection. I’d love to check these out at the counter when they get here… eventually. I’ll report back when I do.

      Review: Makeup: Kanebo Lavshuca eyeshadow
The nice things about Japanese makeup brands is that one brand has many sub-brands, which range from low end products sold in drugstores, to high end products sold in department stores. Lavshuca is a low end drugstore brand of Kanebo Cosmetics and presently, only found in Japan and some stores in Hong Kong and maybe Taiwan. There are some online stores that sell it too e.g. Sasa or Adambeauty. This brand is new - its only been about a year or so since it was launched. When a friend went to Japan last year, I managed to get my hands on some eyeshadow singles. Truth be told, I only wanted them because of the cute packaging. How do the Japanese manage to make everything look so cute?! Each eyeshadow comes in a plastic case with a flip top cover. The size of an eyeshadow single is roughly about the size of a MAC eyeshadow. If you are the sort who likes to depot your eyeshadows into a palette, you can buy the 4 pan palette from a MAC store for about RM15 to put the Lavshuca pans into them.

      Eyeshadow Application Tips
By Juliet Cohen Eye Shadow's primary purpose is to enhance the eye's shape. Apply eyeshadow to add simple definition or to make a strong impact, depending on your choice of colour. There are two basic ways to apply eye shadow in shape shading, "rounded" and "winged. Use a small, more pointed eyeshadow brush to run the slightly darker shade of the main color in a thin line along the socket line, working from the inside corner outward. Eye shadows come in in several textures, powders (compacts), pencils, and creams. Powder can be used either dry or wet and it's really easy to control. Pencils are fairly easy to use and Creams tend to be hard to control. A dark tone makes an area recede, while a light or bright shade will bring an area forward. This is why eyeshadow is often sold in containers with two color shades: a dark and light.Three coordinating eye shadow shades that define, highlight and accentuate any eye color. Always apply a lighter shade under the brow bone to highlight the

Guerlain iridescent loose fairy powder eyeshadow
Strawberrynet is running a Special Purchase which is tempting me to no end. I like loose powder eyeshadows, and they are having the Guerlain Iridescent loose powder eyeshadows on sale for US$19 each. These were limited edition from Christmas a year or two back and I missed out on them then. Now, I’m sorely tempted to get them because I’d heard they are really nice. There are 3 colours available - Fairy Gold, Fairy Silver and Fairy Pink. I’ve heard a lot of raves for Fairy Gold and Fairy Silver. Still toying with the idea of getting one Does anyone have this and should I succumb? p/s I’ve given up on affiliate programmes so you can be assured that all links in my posts now link directly to the page concerned and I get no payment because I never got any payment anyway!

Don’t be afraid of Black Eyeshadow
I used to be afraid of black eyeshadow because I did not know what it could be used for other than for lining. People are always afraid of what they don’t know, and I was no different. However, I recently learnt from a friend the versatility and usefulness of black eyeshadow. My latest experiment with black eyeshadow has garnered me the most compliments ever, and the best part is that its fast and easy. Smudge your favourite black eyeshadow on the lower half of your upper lid, close to your lashes. Take it up about halfway up the lid. Next, take your favourite coloured shimmer shadow - silver, lilacs, purples, pinks, greens and blues work amazingly well with black. Smudge it over the top half of your upper lid, and blend it over the black shadow so you don’t see a line separating the two colours. Curl lashes and apply mascara and you are good to go! Here are 2 pictures showing my last effort, using a shimmery black eyeshadow and a green powder eyeshadow. The black is Mil

Review: Makeup: Shiseido Maquillage eyeshadow palette
When the Shiseido Maquillage line was first launched, I was quite excited to try their products. I am a little allergic to Shiseido The Makeup’s eyeshadow so was curious to see if I would be similarly affected by the Maquillage line. I got the eyeshadow palette in BL761 which is a blue based palette. The palette is quite big in size but isn’t bulky. There are 3 powder eyeshadows and one cream liner which is very useful. The 3 colours are a light shimmer blue, light shimmer yellow and seafoam teal. The liner is a dark cobalt blue. I found the eyeshadow colours a bit sheer. The light blue applies nearly white on the lids with fine shimmer. The yellow is a highlight shade and is a light champagne on. The main colour is actually that of the seafoam which also applies sheer. The dark blue liner is smooth and creamy and easy to apply. However, I found the colours faded by the end of the day, which isn’t very good. Overall, I found the texture of the powder shadows soft and

Review: Makeup: Eye Majic Instant Eyeshadow
I had written about Eye Majic previously after I stumbled upon it online. I also read that it had been featured on Oprah and anything featured on Oprah is bound to garner a lot of interest. Among the many comments I got about this product were questions about where to buy it from and I compiled 2 sites from comments made. Sharon, of the New Zealand Eye Majic distributor contacted me and was kind enough to offer to send me a sample of each of the 12 colours currently available to try out! I was thrilled! She kept to her word and a week later, I found a package on my desk with 2 boxes of Eye Majic instant eyeshadow inside. The boxes were larger than I had expected. Each box would contain 7 pairs of a colour but for this purpose, I had one of each colour in it. The side of the box gives very clear and precise instructions on how this instant eye shadow is to be worn. Essentially, you press the pad containing the colour on your closed eyelid for about 4 seconds, then slide the strip off a

Where to buy Eye Majic instant eyeshadow
Wow after my last write up, I didn’t know Eye Majic has caught the imagination of so many people! I’m sure the owner is happy to know that there are women who love the convenience that his press on technique of 10 second eyeshadow application can bring. Jean Ann left me a comment asking me where to buy this Eye Majic eyeshadow. Well Jean, Brad K Bergman of Exoticbeauty.com.au has pointed me in the direction of Mirenesse. They stock the 12 colours of Eye Majic available at $15.95 for 7 pairs. Its also available from the New Zealand distributor of Eye Majic at www.eyemajic.com.nz according to Sharon. They ship internationally but require payment in New Zealand Dollars. Anywhere else?  Personally I’m still rather sceptical about it, so it would be nice if someone out there could try it and write a review about it. I’m always happy to test run it if someone will send me one pair LOL… ;)  I hope that helps you Jean Ann and all others out there wonderin

      Eye Majic - Instant eyeshadow
In this age of instant noodles, instant coffee and instant gratification, now we have instant eyeshadow! Yes, you read it right. Eye Majic is a company from the Phillipines who has come up with an eyeshadow on applicator pads that you can immediately apply onto your lids and in 10 seconds, get the exact colour on, without the fuss. There are 12 colour combinations to choose from, and it is supposed to be long lasting for day or night. Some of the colours look rather daring like Shade 6 or 10. The colours come on an applicator pad that you apply to your eye. Sort of like using a cotton pad on your face. The colour will transfer from the pad onto your eyelid giving you instant eyeshadow. There is a page teaching you how to use this and also a video on the front page, if you click on the picture of the woman. So this is what it looks like on. Will I try this one? I’m sorry but no. I prefer playing around with the eyeshadows I have. If you live life in the fast lane then maybe look

Review: Makeup: Kanebo T’estimo Frame Impact eyeshadow palette
I am a huge fan of Kanebo T’estimo makeup line. Its a counter brand here in Malaysia, which means that the prices are quite high. But in Japan, its a drugstore brand. Go figure! Anyway, I love the eyeshadows as the texture is very soft and smooth and they are shimmery. This review is on T’estimo’s Spring collection eyeshadow palette - Frame Impact. There are 4 colours in this collection but I only got 04 as I did not want to be overdoing things, and I was looking for something neutral. Isn’t it pretty? This eyeshadow palette comes with a shimmery white/cream highlighter, a shimmery gold colour and a shimmery dark brown shade. The liner is cream in a dark brown colour. It comes with 2 double ended applicators that are of very good quality so I have no qualms about using them. However, I tend to use my fingers for most eyeshadow applications. This palette is a huge improvement for T’estimo, in my opinion. Their eyeshadows in this palette are super pigmented

How to make eyeshadow last all day
Getting the eyeshadow to stay for longer than a couple of hours is not an easy job for a lot of us. I hate it when you're all made up pretty to go on a date, after the dinner you go to the washroom, and you look in the mirror and see with horror that your sexy eye makeup has smeared, creased or faded. Chase Aston, makeup artist and spokesperson for the Body Shop Cosmetics, offers this great tip for keeping your eyeshadow last all day.Wait it out. Oily eyelids are a main cause of eyeshadow creasing. Before applying your makeup, moisturize your face and wait a few minutes, to allow your skin to fully absorb the product. Then close your eyes and remove any excess moisturizer from your lids by gently patting them with a tissue.Tone up. Dampen a cotton ball with a little toner and sweep it over the eyelids. This removes any excess oil and closes the pores. Be extra gentle when performing this step, to prevent your delicate lids from getting red and irritated.Prep and powder. Sprea

Kate by Kanebo - Dual Carat Eyeshadow
This is not a review per se. I wrote about this new eyeshadow by Kate a while ago. I mentioned I was keen to try this from the new Kate collection (at the time) Well, to my surprise, its here! Earlier than expected. I saw it in Watsons yesterday retailing for RM45. Although Watsons is having 15% off on Kate cosmetics at the moment, this is not included as its a red tag item. I think its because its new. Sasa also has it at about RM42.75 or something. Anyway, I took the opportunity to test it, and yes, I like it! Its shimmery, so those who don’t like shimmer would have to steer clear. There are 2 complementing colours, one light, one darker. I swiped most, but only liked BR-1 (brown shades) and GD-1 (gold shades). I’m into neutrals lately so that might explain my current preferance. I did swipe the Green duo as well, as I like green eyeshadows. However, I did not like this one, as both the greens looked muddy for some reason. Would I buy it? Yes, maybe later but not now. RM4

For somebody with very little eye crease (my left eye has a crease, but it's not very noticeable especially when in the morning my eyes are puffy. My right eye has no crease at all), I sure love the smokey eye look. It is the staple for the holiday parties. It's just really tricky apply on my Asian eyes. I skip the black eyeliner altogether. Actually I never wear eyeliners because you can't even see it if I put it on and the eyeliner would just smear right away. I just put the eyeshadow on directly, keep it close to the lashes, and with lots of layering. There are many great smoky-eyeshadows out there. You can spend a little or a lot.
