My driveway is steep and long, and you can not see the road from up here on the mountain. If you don't know that there is enough room to turn around near the house, you will back up your vehicle all the way UP the driveway so that you can easily get DOWN the driveway. Let’s start the eye candy section with an image from Caravaggio, my favorite classic painter from all time. I naturally evolved a style similar to his, for my oil paintings. I have seen his works in person, back when I was in Italy and still, after 400 years, they show an amazing talent, still in my opinion un-surpassed in many ways. The dramatic shadows, the perfect anatomy, Caravaggio (Michelangelo Merisi) was ahead of its time.

It sort of boggles my mind that a plate requires that much clay. But, after you take into account 10-15% shrinkage, trimming etc. I guess that's about right. I probably could have used 6 lbs, but I just didn't want to waste too much clay since this won't have a foot like a normal plate would.I need to let these set up a little bit so that I can assemble it tomorrow. Though, I am tempted to fire them separately and attach the pieces after firing. At this size, I worry about warping during the glaze fire. While I was out in the studio, I threw some more mugs. Recently, we mentioned a candy diorama of the Battle of Helm’s Deep from Lord of the Rings, made entirely of candy. Although the edibility of that craft project is somewhat questionable, I’m pretty sure you could eat the creations from Eye Candy. After all, the candy is all still wrapped in their original packaging.
From $14 “shoes” made of candy buttons, Starbursts, and Laffy Taffy, to custom candy creations that could potentially cost hundreds of dollars, Eye Candy has taken candy art to new heights. There are dolls with candy-lined dresses, so that even after the candy is all gone, girls still have something to enjoy, and a taffy-lined doghouse with a plush puppy is sure to please.
My personal favorites are the houses, like the one shown above. Although I’m a fan of gingerbread houses, I never found them too appetizing, particularly after the house has served as a centerpiece for a few weeks and you’re faced with stale cookies and hard frosting.

I've been saving photos of these fabulous men in my file, savoring them, not wanting to share them with you, forgetting that you've already seen them in Sense and Sensibility. But here's the thing: I've always preferred him over his good friend Ben Affleck. His acting skills mesmerize me. I had me totally fooled as the dastardly Tom in The Talented Mr. Ripley, and he totally came into his own as a hero in The Bourne Identity. He can get so lost in his part that you forget that he's Matt. That's why I know his career will have staying power.As I wait for his next movie, I'll just keep looking and looking and looking. My last Eye Candy, Matt Damon, was not a general favorite. However, he fits Ms. Place's criteria perfectly: A man who is not only fit and buff, but whose intelligence shines through his eyes. Ms. Place will not choose the obvious suspects, like a Brad Pitt and George Clooney. She'll leave such coverage to others. Instead, she likes to trod down a path less viewed.This week's Eye Candy is such a man. He is so fabulous that for once I am at a loss for words. I first saw Olivier Martinez in a 1995 French movie titled "Horseman on the Roof." One did not need to know French to understand this beautiful man's body movements.I drool. I slaver.
