Chief Justice Roberts Defends ExxonMobil..Exxon Pleads for Relief in Alaska Oil Spill Case..We Are Pleading for Lower Fuel Prices..Fuck Exxon!
thinkprogress.orgYesterday, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments on how much money ExxonMobil should be forced to pay as damages for its Exxon Valdez oil spill 19 years ago. The Washington Post's Dana Milbank notes that Chief Justice John Roberts appeared "bothered" that Exxon might have to pay for its destruction:What bothered the chief justice was that Exxon was being ordered to pay $2.5 billion -- roughly three weeks' worth of profits -- for destroying a long swath of the Alaska coastline in the largest oil spill in American history."So what can a corporation do to protect itself against punitive-damages awards such as this?" Roberts asked in court. The lawyer arguing for the Alaska fishermen affected by the spill, Jeffrey Fisher, had an idea. "Well," he said, "it can hire fit and comp

Wal-Mart, CIA, ExxonMobil Changed Wikipedia Entries
Wal-Mart, CIA, ExxonMobil Changed Wikipedia Entries… I guess you can’t believe everything you read on the Internet A new Web site built by an American technology student has uncovered the lengths that companies apparently go to improve their public image by tweaking their entries on Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia that — famously — “anyone can edit.” The WikiScanner site, developed by Virgil Griffith, a researcher at the California Institute of Technology, reveals changes to the online encyclopedia by linking edits back to the computers from which they emanate using each computer’s unique IP address. Griffith, 24, says he created the site “to create minor public relations disasters for companies and organizations I dislike” — a mission he may well have succeeded in.

Indonesia's talks with ExxonMobil hit a hurdle
Indonesia and ExxonMobil have halted negotiations on the disputed Natuna D-Alpha gas block, now controlled by the US company, an official at energy watchdog BPMIGAS said yesterday.Talks on the offshore gas project, estimated to require investment of about $40 billion, have run into several problems, attracting the attention of foreign investors who are already wary of committing money to Southeast Asia's biggest economy because of its weak legal system, bureaucracy and corruption. The most recent setback over Natuna has arisen because the two parties involved cannot agree on how to split the gas produced, the official said, but other unresolved issues include the length of Exxon's contract.Indonesia News Blog: http://indosnesos.blogspot.com

INDONESIA: ExxonMobil, Pertamina to Spend 67% More on Java Oil
Exxon Mobil Corp., the world's largest publicly traded oil company, and PT Pertamina will spend at least 67 percent more to develop an oil field on Indonesia's Java island as drilling and land acquisition costs rise. The cost of developing Banyu Urip, the main oil field in the Cepu area, may exceed $2 billion, compared with the initial estimate of $1.2 billion, Ferederick Siahaan, Pertamina's finance director, said in Jakarta today. The state company will seek $1 billion of loans next year to fund the project, he said. Opposition from landowners has delayed production from Cepu, the Southeast Asian country's largest untapped oil deposit, by about a year to October 2009, Iin Arifin Takhyan, vice president of Pertamina, said on Aug. 23. The Indonesian government wants Cepu to start pumping crude oil by the end 2008 to help reverse a 10-year slide in output. ``Everything is changing. Cost is going up,'' Siahaan said in an intervi

Frank said that he soon received the cards that he had ordered and then later received two more boxes, each containing 1,000 credit cards.  He said that it took a very long to shredding the cards because they have both his account number and his name on them. While talking to the ExxonMobil customer service representatives Frank said, “How could you send me 2,000 cards by mistake?”  Paula Chen, who is a spokeswoman for ExxonMobil Corporation, said that the oil company is looking into the situation to find out what caused the mix-up.  I guess we will hear more on this issue at a later date!
