      Exporting Google Reader
Every couple of days, Google finds new ways to tangle me up in their web. The latest is this shared item widget I've added. As you may know, I use Google Reader to aggregate all of my various news feeds. Recently, I added an application which takes the items I share in the reader and updates my twitter. This web service is called twitterfeed, and can be set up to use any kind of RSS input. But, I decided I wanted to make the news stories easily accessible from this page. So, that "Shamiq's Shared Items" thingy in the sidebar is my attempt to make an unobtrusive feature available. Every article/post first passes through a filter (my brain) and if deemed worthy for further syndication, finds itself on the sidebar. The topics of the articles widely vary, but all of them are interesting.Have a n

Detroit Sets Bold Goal: Exporting U.S. Cars
DETROIT — Last year’s landmark labor deals and the weak dollar are breathing new life into U.S. auto plants, leading Detroit’s auto makers to plan sizable exports of U.S.-made vehicles to markets around the world. General Motors Corp. is looking to export U.S.-made vehicles to Europe as well as to China and Latin American markets such as Brazil, company executives confirmed. Chrysler LLC, primarily spurred by exchange rates, has already started shifting production from Europe to the U.S. to take advantage of lower costs and available plant capacity. Ford Motor Co. is considering ramping up exports if it can bring labor costs down, people familiar with the matter said. For years the U.S. has been one of the most expensive places in the world to make cars. But the new contr

Exporting XSD and WSDL Documents Developing Message Interfaces
Use The Integration Builder editors access repository objects directly. For example, you can load message types in the mapping editor to define a message mapping. You can also use tools from a third-party to design a mapping and then import the XSLT or Java mapping into the repository. The Integration Builder supports the export of interface objects for such scenarios. Lack of incentive will affect exporting of passenger cars
India’s dream of becoming a global small car hub may not become reality. Car manufacturers, who are till recently beaming over the reduction of excise duty on small cars, are now considering limiting their exports to maintain profitability as the government has not given incentive to encourage the exporting of passenger cars. Lack of incentive from the government is expected to affect the growth of export business of many car manufacturers. Sale of small cars, sedan and luxury cars is increasing in domestic market but lack of incentive for export and continues depreciation of the dollar, is bound to affect the sale of many cars in overseas market. Discouraged by the government’s disinterest in encouraging export business, largest exporter of passenger cars from India like Hyundai m

      Exporting From Illustrator to Flash
You’ve no doubt been in this situation before: you build a beautiful Web layout comp in Illustrator for a tough client who seems to have an axe to grind. The sign-off comes, and you’re ready to pull the layout over into Flash, set a few items, animate a few others, and the job’s done right? Wrong! In previous versions, getting content from Illustrator into Flash – well, getting it imported decently at least – was a lot tougher than it should have seemed. Thankfully, CS3 makes this entire process a breeze. From being able to set symbols and tag text in Illustrator to getting Flash to control layer imports and recognize Illustrator objects correctly, it’s all in there. Exporting to Mexico
What most people don't know is that exporting products is actually quite simple. And while you might already know the basics of selling your product in the USA, why not expand your horizons by exporting to Mexico? When you widen your customer base, you allow your profits to be larger and longer term. Remember, Mexico is the #1 trade partner with the US and the #1 importer of US products. It's interesting to note that not many people are exporting out of the country right now. Most of the American made products are staying right here in America. However, this is limiting the retailer market and limiting your ability to profit. When you make the decision to export, you are creating a unique quality to whatever business you are in – whether it's retail, service oriented, or wholesaling. By a

Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries
OPEC said today that it was leaving its production levels unchanged for the moment, signaling that it was more concerned with slowing economic growth than with high oil prices. The oil cartel rejected calls from oil consumers, including the United States, to increase output to drive down prices. Saudi Arabia had initially said the group would consider increasing production by 500,000 barrels a day but backed down in the face of opposition from other OPEC members after oil prices fell last week. With oil prices still around $90 a barrel, today's decision suggests that producers have significantly increased their minimal target price for oil. Analysts now believe that OPEC's new floor to be around $70 to $80 a barrel. Given the volatility in oil markets, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries said it would meet again in February to review its decision and fine-tune its supply levels. OPEC repeated its long-held view that there was no shortage of oil on the market and th

Help Needed: Pages ‘08 Borks Endnotes When Exporting to Word
I’m losing my mind. I’ve spent the last two evenings trying to get a 300-page document written in Apple’s Pages ‘08 word processor to export properly to Word format. The bulk of the document exports OK, but it screws up hundreds of endnotes: the markers jump to the wrong endnotes. Another Misinformed,Misleading Article about Cuba HealthCare System: Why is Cuba exporting its health care miracle to the world's poor?
Cuba's health care system is based on the neighbourhood doctors and nurse. Most often, one of them lives upstairs from the office. Photo by Sarah van Gelder. Cubans say they offer health care to the world’s poor because they have big hearts. But what do they get in return? They live longer than almost anyone in Latin America. Far fewer babies die. Almost everyone has been vaccinated, and such scourges of the poor as parasites, TB, malaria, even HIV/AIDS are rare or non-existent. Anyone can see a doctor, at low cost, right in the neighborhood. The Cuban health care system is producing a population that is as healthy as those of the world’s wealthiest countries at a fraction of the cost. And now Cuba has begun exporting its system to under-served communities around the world—including the United States. The story of Cuba’s health care ambitions is largely hidden from the people of the United States, where politics left over from the Cold War maintain an embargo on information

      Exporting IT Jobs
Met this guy the other night from Eastern Europe who works in London for a large software company and at one point mentioned he’d been to Asia. My glib response was ‘Don’t tell me, exporting IT jobs?’. Yup. He said ‘I know its a cheap thing to do’. I said ‘Why’d you do that, you’ve spoken to Asian call centres before and you know the confusion and total lack of communication that invariably takes place?’. He laughed and said every-bodies doing it. Do I hear the sound of lemmings? I then said ‘what happens in 10 years when you’ve exported all your companies IT positions and you aren’t in a position to run your IT stuff anymore because all your IT skills have gone west?’ He thought about that. Then I said ‘what happens when the those guys realise this - and who could blame them - and think you are totally dependant on them to run their IT and a company without IT will just stall’, then they m
