New Record: The Explorers Club, Freedom Wind
Short of hiring Brian Wilson to produce and arrange the damn thing, Freedom Wind -- the Dead Oceans debut from Charleston, South Carolina’s the Explorers Club -- is basically a lost Beach Boys album. The Explorers
This is a pretty neat film. A young Ethan Hawke teams with a young River Phoenix and another kid and they all build a spaceship. Using alien technology communicated through dreams, they engineer an energy orb that can protect the ship and take it anywhere. It's so efficient it can run on an old battery from the 1980's.They travel around the earth, then go into space, and meet aliens! It's wild. And young Hawke meets a girl. It's family friendly, and great if you love sci-fi. Nine thumbs up!

      Explorers’ last Antarctica cruise
Read our previous post about the sinking of the Antarctic cruise ship: the Explorer The Explorer was on a 19-day cruise of Antarctica and the Falkland Islands, near the South Shetland Islands, letting passengers observe penguins, whales and other wildlife. You could almost say that this Antarctic cruise was really inspired by the Antarctic explorations of ill-fated adventurer [...]

Mount Everest Explorers: “Can You Hear Me Now?”
If the ubiquitous Britney Spears “Gimme More” ringtones have you tearing your hair out and wanting to escape to the welcome solitude of a lonely mountain top, you may soon be out of luck. China Mobile, Asia’s largest mobile phone company, has successfully tested a mobile phone base on Mount Everest. If all goes well, the Olympic torch runners in the fore run to the 2008 Beijing Olympics will be able to keep in touch with their loved ones by cell phone on their way up the summit. Great for the ever increasing reach of cellular connectivity and all that, but one less spot on earth that’s unsullied by the cell phone. This isn’t the first mobile station en route to the peak. China Mobile has two other mobile stations, but both provide limited connectivity. This new station promises connectivity till right at the top, and is slated to begin functioning in May when the torch relay is expected to take place. China is pulling out all the stops to boost tourism in time f

      Canadian Explorers
Well my Dad’s visit is already come to a close. How is some weeks go by so slowly yet last week was lightening fast? On Sunday we headed to Bandelier National Park. We hiked and explored the ancient ruins. Then we had a picnic while Becca recovered from a terrible fall. I swear this girl cannot keep skin on her elbows and knees. My Dad really enjoyed the park. Yesterday I went to see the chiropractor again. The man is a saint! Thanks to everyone that recommended  seeing a chiropractor! It was not plantar facilitous as I was first told. Rather is was more of a sprain and injury to my foot. The chiropractor explained it a lot better. All I know, is that my foot is marginally better than it was before! w00t! Good shoes, magical socks and some therapy from the chiropractor! Becca was able to show Grandpa her stellar swimming skills during her lessons. She is becoming less of the rebel in the class and is starting to listen more. I really think all these group activities are good

      Police Explorers and Opportunities
Johnny in uniform heading off to his police explorers meeting. I really like this program and wish I can get some of my other teens interested in joining but sadly the others are more interested in being on the opposite side of the law. I have offered Matthew voice lessons since he has a beautiful voice but he took it as an insult. I offered Joseph keyboard lessons at our local music center in town but he too balked at the idea. So , tell me...why did he want a keyboard for his birthday ? Sometimes these kids make no sense but all I can do is keep putting opportunities out there for them whether or not they grasp hold of them is their business. We have a great school of the arts that I thought both boys would be interested in as they want to be "actors"....did I laugh, no. I offered them an opportunity to attend the school of the arts but nah...they have this idea in their heads that opportunity is going to discover them and come knocking on their door. Dreamers. Real fantasy land
