      New Science Experiment
I've been really busy the last month and my scientific studies have taken a back seat. Yesterday I blew the dust off my microscope and decided to again contribute to the vast knowledge of the scientific community. It all started when I was rummaging though the refrigerator and I came upon some vegetables that should have been tossed a few days earlier. As I looked at the shriveled-up carrot I pond

No Salvation from Productivity Improvements: The Failed 35 Hour Work Week Experiment and Work-Life Balance Examined
Wouldn’t it be reasonable to expect improvements in productivity to result in shorter work hours? The quick answer: No. It’s up to us.The famous French 35 hour work week has recently received yet another blow leaving only a shadow of the once grandiose attempt at social policy. The rational behind the 35 hour work week was to take advantage of the vast improvements in productivity of the 20th a

      A QWERTY Experiment
In a paragraph where the letters of the words are jumbled, except for the first and the last letters, the paragraph is still comprehensible. Now, in my leftly-disabled state, I wanted to find out what happens if I use only the letters that would ordinarily be typed with my right hand. - - - [...]

Link Building — A Linking Experiment Gone Awry?
By James Orr I am fanatical about testing and specifically about testing my marketing and one of the tests I am currently running is on getting people from a few key, related industries, to exchange links with me. This is basically what I am doing. I put out marketing to find people that would like to work [...]

why gold foil is used in alpha ray scattering experiment?
Rutherford Scattering, the bombarding of a target with alpha particles and looking for backscattered particles has been done using a gold foil to demonstrate backscattering since the first experiments by Rutherford around the turn of the 1900's. The interaction that will produce a backscatter is like a ping-pong ball hitting a bowling ball (a very small mass hitting a much larger mass). The Law of

      Squidoo Experiment Update #2
I just received my Squidoo payment for the month of June and was pleasantly surprised. I got $50, up from the $23 last month!!! I did have quite a few more lenses in June than in May, but the payout tier #'s were pretty much on course. I don't think I described the Squidoo payout system in my earlier post, so I'll do that now, or make my best attempt at an explanation.Squidoo pays out on a tier sy

I finally signed up for Neil Kramer's great interview experiment.I'm going to be interviewed by Robin Slick who is the mother of two out of three members of the Adrian Belew Power Trio.[She is not Adrian Belew's mom.]I went all fan girlish for a minute because back in college when I wore black and was really co

What if Apple had conducted the Mojave Experiment?
In watching the many negative blog posts and comments about Microsoft’s “Mojave Experiment” — designed to try to distinguish perception from reality around Vista — I can’t help but wonder how different the take would be if it were Apple doing the same kind of marketing campaign. What if Apple had conducted the Mojave Experiment?

      Experiment on Perforated Paper
This is as far as I will go on this piece, but the ideas will be transferred to another piece.I hadn't stitched for a while and thought I'd play with perforated paper - cardstock-weight paper with holes punched in it at regular intervals.  I decided to work within an ATC size piece, in this case a grid of 33 squares by 47 squares.  The idea that came to mind was the branching patt

      Color and Shapes Experiment
This image shows another experiment and an exercise in using colors and sharp shapes. I began the painting by merely painting onto 140# watercolor paper with lots of color and very wet. The color shapes looked like they could be a grove of trees so my direction focused on trees. In order to NOT be too real, I made 90% of my shapes with sharp points using thick and thin lines with Micron 02 and 05

Eating Locally in Chicago: The CSA Experiment
My haul from Stanley's, $18 total in early June 2008. No organic food whatsoever. Australia spoiled me. Over the year and a half I lived in South Australia, I had the joy of eating the freshest, most delicious and colorful produce ever. There was a giant, covered farmers market in the center of Adelaide called the Central Market, so I not only had amazing produce close by all year round, but I h
