It was a packed house last night at the Pinewood Derby! We got there about 15 minutes before it started and snatched up the last of the available seating. I'm far too excited about moving and everything that I can't manage to do anything productive. The only productive thing I've managed to do was find a desk at Ikea that my chinchilla's cage will fit underneath and won't cost a ton of money. Now I just need to, you know, get down to Ikea and buy it. That'll be tomorrow's adventure.It might actually be possible to arrange my room so that I can have all of my things and not have to loft my bed. It'll be a real squish, yes, but it's a possibility. I'm looking forward to the challenge. I figure if Ross can manage to get as much stuff into his room as he has, I can do this as well. My plan is to surround my bed with my desk, fridge, and couch. I'll have to climb over the couch to get into bed but that's a small price to pay.My fear is that Miki will complain of my things encroaching on her space. I'm going to really try my best to give her as much floor area as I can, but what can I say? I have a lot of things. I like my things.

Chile’s major problem began when the team boarded their bus after a heated 3-0 loss to Argentina in their U-20 World Cup semifinal match. According to one officer at the scene, frustrated Chilean players had boarded the team bus after their 3-0 loss to Argentina in the Under-20 World Cup semifinal when they broke metal arm rests off the seats and used them to break bus windows. The police then stepped in and a large scuffle ensued. Eventually the team was taken back into the stadium, and in the end nine players were detained. The fact that many them had been bloodied, pepper sprayed, and tasered has many people criticizing the Canadian police for using excessive force. Let me tell you, since they did all that remodeling at the hospital, the ER is quite nice. I just wish I didn’t know that. Yesterday the kids did some really stupid stuff in order to reach something on a high shelf and here’s the end result. 5 stitches later we’ll just wait and see how it heals and hope the scar isn’t too bad. As if you don’ t all know already, we are huge fans of Harry Potter (for proof see our HUGE Harry Potter Party details).    Last Friday me, Teacherman and Angelgirl went to see Goblet of Fire - LOVED IT!    (Of course I had to tell hubby some of the details from the book that were left out and encouraged him to read the books - so far he hasn’t read one!)  Friday I will be heading over to Mama Kelly’s so we can enjoy the party at a book store near her as we await the midnight hour to get our hands on Book 7.   I’m sure I’ll manage to stay up for at least a little while afterwards to get some reading in before I nod off. The next day I won’t be able to read much though, because we are going to see The Order of the Pheonix in an IMAX theater, we are treating a bunch of the folks from my workplace who helped us out for the party (wore costumes and everything!).   As much as I want to see the movie again, I am dreading not having that time

The 2007 Electronic Entertainment Expo will be held on July 11-13, 2007 in Santa Monica, California where a number of hotels and the Barker Hangar will host press conferences and the main expo. I am really looking forward to see the changes at this years event as well as well as the press conferences from the big three in the console market and news from major third party game publishers like EA, Sega , Activision and Ubisoft. There are so many games I am looking forward to seeing that my brain is overloaded with titles just thinking about it, but if I had to choose a couple I would have to choose Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty 4 and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption as my most anticipated titles but trust me there are many others I am looking forward to seeing as I am almost positive that I will be picking up a next-gen console or two this coming christmas. In a horrendous sell off last Friday, the DJIA finished down over 185 points. Much of the market followed in unison, except for some alternative energy plays. From SunPower (SPWR) to First Solar (FSLR), the solar energy market gained tremendously in a negative market. “Industry sources” determined that prices for solar energy should continue to become more reasonable when compared to conventional power sources (already a no-brainer, but the market enjoyed the positive comments). At the end of the day, coal powered energy plants still cost less per kilowatt hour, ultimately making solar less of a viable option for average energy consumers, but the future looks bright nonetheless. Currently, the market pays about 4 cents per kW on average, but if the solar industry can bring down the price to 8-10 cents, the market should completely open up for alternatives like solar energy. You know, every now and then I get accused of not really being excited at the prospect of becoming a father. In fact, just this weekend, the father-in-law said to me “You’re more excited that dog (Professor Bernard Armstrong, I think you’ll find) then the baby!”. I have just stepped off the scale after 7 days on the south beach diet.  I have stayed away from weighing myself because in the past I had trouble emotionally handling the 2 pounds lost, one pound gained cycle I typically find myself in.  So here are some quick facts about my past week. Last night everyone was getting ready for bed while Dad, exhausted from a long but enjoyable day, decided to collapse in his recliner in front of the television. He happened upon a Rick Steves tour. Rick Steves is the picture of nerdiness but we love him. Not in the we-want-to-move-in-with-him sort of way. I just enjoy the views of these other countries that we have never been to and in all likelihood will never go that he provides.Well, Ricky happened to be doing last night's show on Israel. The children overheard this when they came out from brushing their teeth and they were drawn in and mesmerized by the narrator's soothing voice. Or something.Every time the kids heard a word that they recognized from the Bible or from the news they would say, "WOW! That's what it looks like?!" or "The Sea of Galilee is a real place?!" It was great watching them see in full color the places where the real historical Jesus that they love actually walked and preached and performed miracles.

I got really excited this morning. I was playing with Elliot in the living room when a delivery van pulled up in front of the house. I pretended not to notice it there because I really wasn't expecting any packages. But then my hopes shot straight up when a man carrying a massive parcel rings the doorbell. Of course I haven't yet changed out of my pyjamas or brushed my hair, but whatever, I've got a package! I fling the door open, big smile on my face and what does Delivery Man say?'I've got a package for next door, but no one's home. Do you mind signing for it?'

I'm only working this morning today, taking the afternoon off to have a short nap (in the hopes I won't then fall asleep on the motorway later) before heading off to the NIA in Birmingham to see My Chemical Romance! Oo, I have butterflies. I've really been looking forward to this, their live show is meant to be awesome and the whole black parade theme is really theatrical. So far I haven't been able to work out where my seat is in relation to the stage. Hope it's not too far back. I suppose that really I ought to got for the standing tickets on the basis that you can get closer to the stage and it's cheaper, but mosh pits can be on the brutal side. It's 100% seated for Alice Cooper at the NEC in November I noticed, but maybe if the Crue come around. Hell, for those guys I'm very willing to battle my way to the front in an effort to catch Nikki's eye! This does mean I am going to have to pay attention this morning of course, and not spend too long browsing the net. Back

I had one of those moments this morning of staring into the wardrobe and not knowing what to wear. Combined with that was the thought that I'm sure I used to own interesting clothes. What happened? Is it a side effect of getting older, that someone comes in and removes anything remotely interesting from your shelves and your wardrobe in the night, leaving you with piles of clothes in black, white and grey? As a minor revolt against this I am wearing a black halter top with polka dots and a black lace long over jacket thingy (technical term) along with the long grey skirt and boots I ended up pulling out.But there used to be interesting clothes, and I didn't used to worry about wearing them either. I'm sure I looked a fright at times, but others I'm sure I looked pretty hot. Take the outfit I bought for a blow out in London for my 19th birthday. There had been a large earthquake off the coast of Japan, and thus the public here in Hawaii had been put on alert through television, radio and then the phone calls--what we call the coconut telegraph hotline. The news was of what is called a "tsunami watch" with a possible evacuation for those who live in low-lying areas or near the shore. (We don't.) However, my concern for others and the 'aina' was strong, so I waited up for the warning to be either upgraded (which would have meant evacuation for many) OR for the word from the NWS that there was nothing to be concerned about. This news happened before midnight. Good news. Now go to bed. Yeh! Last evening as I watched the news on television, I saw where Human Error had crept into this tsunami watch announcement, and I'm sure the famous "Murphy" had a good, hearty laugh.
