Chicago sports legend and Baseball Hall of Famer, Ernie Banks -- who earned the nickname "Mr. Cub" -- was treated to an unveiling of his bronze likeness on a rainy opening day ceremony at Wrigley Field. Banks becomes the first Cubs player to achieve such an honor."Wow, I love it," Banks said of the statue, the work of sculptor Lou Cella.Cella used Banks' at-bat against Hall of Famer Spahn on Aug. 29, 1959, as inspiration for the 300-pound steel, wood, fiberglass and bronze piece. His foster mom says he has quite the delightful personality. He's happy, but not hyper, and gets along great with non-alpha dogs and cats too!He would do best in a home without small children. Like many big dogs, he may bump a little kiddo over without meaning to. He will need a fenced yard.Ernie loves to go for walks, and walks well on a leash - even on the busy Monon Trail! He's crate trained and housebroken. He sleeps in his crate at night, but can be left alone without being crated during the day. Ernie likes the two cats that live with him. I had been looking forward to the show, but due to unforeseen circumstances was unable to make it.I discovered Halter only a few weeks ago while visiting Columbus, Ohio.
