Do we think that two jobs are better than one?
Depends. In the case of the waitress/cab driver, not really. But where this particular jewelry designer is concerned? Definitely. Mike Crovetti may be the only orthopedic surgeon in the world to also make the jump to jewelry designer, and it seems his second job is paying off.
Crovetti was using metal reconstructive plates to mend bones when he noti
A recent weight loss study reinforces the importance of breakfast. Two groups of women were compared. The first group followed a low calorie diet (~1200 calories) that included a balanced protein/carbohydrate intake. This first group ate 50% of their daily calories in the morning (~600 calories). The second group followed a low calorie (~1000 calories), low carbohydrate diet and ate ~25% of their

It is often confusing why lenders would charge higher interest rates to someone with bad credit. A person with bad credit does not need the higher payments on a loan that come with higher interest.
It seems more rational to charge a person with bad credit lower interest so the payments can be more affordable and [...]

In Adam's first grade class, there is a complicated behavior rating system based on color cards. It goes something like this... Everyone starts off with a green card. For their first infraction, they get a yellow card. Then they get a red card and some privileges get taken away. After that, they get a blue card and they have to sit in front of another first grade class for five minutes. And

The great thing about love is that there really is someone for everyone.

The headline is out today:Lip Gloss Can Invite Skin Cancer.Hmmm. Are you buying it? Some dermatologists have come out with that very warning. And yet, no studies have actually confirmed the lip gloss-skin cancer link. It's a theory, but many derms feel it's a strong theory. How could this be? According to NYC dermatologist, Dr. Bruce Robinson, it's the moisture in the gloss that attracts the sun's harmful rays. "Take a magifying glass and put it over your lips." When you apply shiny lip gloss and go out into the sun, "that's essentially what you're doing."The shiny gloss can actually raise your risk of developing skin cancer. At least that is what some skin experts are saying. So what's a gal to do? Dump your lip gloss and wear lipstick. Or layer a lip balm with an SPF of 30 under your gloss
Scarification, a new word I learnt from an episode I caught on National Discovery channel. I actually can't tolerate scenes of surgeries in progress or scene involving flesh and blood. In this instance, the subject caught my attention. This ritual took place in Africa, if I'm not mistaken. A teenage boy was preparing anxiously to a bloody ritual which was supposed to mark the beginning of manhood for him. Not prepared of what's going to be shown on the screen, my undisturbed attention was focused on the narration. Apparently, boys must undergo this traditional scarring of the body before he can be accepted as an adult. Shockingly, the tool used to cut or scar the body (what I saw was on the chest until below the navel) is not a proper knife. It was some kind of broken piece of metal, steril

As April 15 tax day approaches, here is a reminder for home buyers with mortgage insurance.Home owners with adjusted gross incomes of $100,000 or less can deduct the full cost of their government or private mortgage insurance premiums on their 2007 federal returns.Families with incomes between $100,000 and $109,000 are eligible for a reduced deduction. This is a new tax break that Congress has approved through 2010. "On average, this year's tax break could be worth $350 per taxpayer — an annual deduction that qualified home owners can take each year through 2010," says Kevin Schneider, president of the Mortgage Insurance Companies of America (MICA).Source: MICA

Many restaurant operators endlessly search for new menu ideas. This strong focus creates bloated menus which are difficult to manage. Forecasting demand per entree item increases in difficulty as the number of protein choices increases. Rather than searching for new items, you may get better results with a review of current menu choices.Unpopular menu items with relatively low gross profit potential should be eliminated. Some operators avoid removong an unpopular item because a valued guest always orders the item. Take the item off the menu and get even closer to your valued guest. Stock enough ingredients to produce their signature item on the days they enjoy dining out. You'll improve your overall menu performance and you'll get closer to your valued guest.Another great tool for improvin

Stress is well known to affect a person's own physical health, but the effect on their children's health was unclear. To investigate, Mary Caserta and her colleagues at the University of Rochester in New York asked the parents of 169 children aged between 5 and 10to monitor their child's health over three years, recording symptoms of illnesses and taking their temperatures. Every six months, the parents took a test designed to assess their own psychiatric health, noting markers of stress such as anxiety or depression. It's a sad and common fact that the size of one's billfold molds the future. It's the truth. A better way of stating it might be either you have it or you don't. Concerning American health care and health insurance, well, I think Michael Moore said it best in his moving documentary Sicko. I could hardly stop wriggling on my couch when one of his subjects described a grotesque table saw accident in which he lost the tips of two of his fingers, the middle and the ring finger. He couldn't afford the intricate reattachment surgeries on both, so he chose his wedding ring finger at the lower cost. My grievances aren't so bloody or bizzare, but they're authentically painful.I began seeing my psychiatrist years ago, in a private office setting. I was employed at the time and paid for Blue Cross Bl

Holy crap! 5 years until Armageddon!!!!!
But seriously folks… take my wife, please!
I read on Wikipedia and elsewhere that among the things that are predicted for December 21, 2012 are:
First Contact With Aliens
The Return Of Someone Called Quetzalcoatl (some would call him a god)
Artificial Intelligence Emerges (Did somebody say SkyNet?)
Rise Of The Antichrist
We Run Out Of Oil And Have Massive Blackouts
Rogue Planet Comes Near Earth And Wreaks Havoc
Earth Gets Smacked By A Comet
Earth's Magnetic Field Reverses
Earth Passes Through A Photon Belt — All things are bright for 3 days, and will glow in the dark for 1000 years
Humans Ascend Somehow
Humans Achieve Collective Consciousness
Time Travel Is Invented Or Revealed
Nuclear War
End Of The World
With so many possibilities for an earth-changing event, it looks like 12-21-2012 is a date that will live in infamy, at least until it happens and is highly unextraordinary.
But maybe something big really will take place

I’m sure you’ve heard the old saying, “To the victor goes the spoils”. Nothing could be more appropriate than for current Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy. His team is currently 8-1, in line to win the NFC North, and make a trip to the playoffs. And what goes better with success than a significant rise in the paycheck?
McCarthy, more than any other current head coach in the National Football League, probably stands to gain the most from his team’s success this season. In the middle of a 3-year contract, he has positioned himself to cash in, financially. Of the seven head coaches that were hired before the 2006 season, McCarthy’s record (16-9) is by far the best. Only the New Orleans Saints’ Sean Payton (14-11) approaches that level of success.
According to Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, league insiders who are familiar with coaching contracts and McCarthy’s situation with the Packers, it is common knowledge

For the last five days we have been blessed to have company. Some dear friends came for their second eldest son's graduation from basic training. These friends of our are the proud parents of 12 children. They were here with 10 children to stay with us. So we had 12 of them total with the 10 of us and it was a great week! Their children are well disciplined and loving children. It really did not seem like that many people. In the past, we have had people stay who had far less children and it seemed like so much more! We had a great time catching up with each other and all of the children had a playmate. It was a difficult good-bye this morning. The Lord has greatly blessed us with kindred spirits, as Anne Shirley (Anne of Green Gables) would say.
Wars stripped about $284 billion from Africa's economies between 1990 and 2005, roughly equal to the amount of aid money given to the world's poorest continent, according to a report by Oxfam International. In the study "Africa's Missing Billions," the British aid group said the 23 conflicts engulfing Africa in the period had shrunk economies by an average 15 percent per year at a cost of almost $18 billion a year. Oxfam based its estimate on a calculation of the various costs of conflicts and violence, including higher military expenditures, loss of development aid, rising inflation and medical expenses of those injured or disabled. Vixta: A Fedora Linux-based Windows Vista cloneSince everyone likes the new look of Vista with its Aeroglass feature, Linux has decided to implement it.Vixta could be the Linux distribution with the smallest possible target audience ever: Linux users who love the look and feel of Windows Vista and wished their Linux desktops could look more like Windows.Vixta is a Fedora-based distro with a custom KDE-based interface. You get widgets, a Vista-like start menu and taskbar, and evil looks from your die-hard open-source buddies. Under the hood, there's no mistaking Vixta for Windows. If you're a Linux user, that's probably a good thing, but somehow we doubt Vixta will convince many Windows users to switch to Linux. You can't run Windows apps without the help of WINE, and while the menu system may look like Windows, all the underlying programs are Linux equivalents. That means you get Konqueror instead of Explorer, OpenOffice instead of Office, and Firefox instead of, well, Firefox. OK,
Keeping up with the calorie count can be quite a tiresome task. Fast paced life of the contemporary world, makes it even more difficult to maintain a healthy body. Irregular meals, dependence on junk food, lack of physical activity all contributes to those extra pounds.
Rimonabant is an anti-obesity drug, which was discovered and manufactured by Sanofi-Aventis, a French pharmaceutical company. It functions as an appetite suppressant. It works on the principle of targeting the CB-1 receptors, which are responsible for your appetite and nicotine intake. This in turn makes you eat less than your normal appetite, leading to weight loss.
It is an ideal solution for people who have BMI greater than 30. BMI refers to Body Mass Index, which is a calculated value of body weight in proportion to height. Rimonabant pill is like a magic potion, which can facilitate you to make an easy escape from the clutch of obesity and its consequent health problems.

Man, those summer days sure are long gone. The autumn weather has started and that equates to copious amounts of rain for the Pacific Northwest, in particular Vancouver and where I am now (temporarily), Victoria. Usually the rains don't really come until the start of October. I can hear the rain drops hitting the skylight about me as we speak. These grey and dark days make it very S.A.D. for everyone. Why not think back about the summer for a little refresher? The rain and clouds got me reminiscing of the awesome summer weather I experienced here in Victoria when we arrived back from Korea. So, once again that means a dig into the picture archives to pull up some summer shots from Victoria. If you're ever visiting Victoria, British Columbia, you will most likely make a visit down to Dallas Road, which is the coastline of the very southern tip of Vancouver Island. Here you will see some of the most stunning views of the beaches, the Pacific Ocean, and various marine wildlife. Here's a
I heard someone say "sanity equals limits and boundaries" many years ago and the concept has stuck with me ever since. There are a lot of useful ways to apply this philosophy to daily life.To clarify, I use the word "limits" to apply to the self and "boundaries" to apply to others. For example, if I set a time to go to bed at night so that I don't stay up too late, that's a limit. If my family doesn't answer the telephone during dinner, that's boundary. Limits help us define our own behavior while boundaries are a reaction to the behavior of others. In short, your boundary is where others end and you begin, while your limit is where you stop yourself. One is measured outwardly and the other internally. How is it true that "sanity equals limits and boundaries"? If the opposite of "sanity" is "insanity" or, more generically poor mental or emotional health, then think of any psychiatric or emotional disturbance. Depression is sadness without limits, psychosis is fantasy withou

You begin to wonder if the Club’s Medical Centre is something akin to the Bermuda Triangle; enter at your peril for you may never be seen again. Lehmann, Gallas and Eboue have been in there and will not be coming out for a while. It is though good motivation for the rest of the squad to not require medical attention; the rampaging egos in there at present would leave little room for anyone else to get a word in edgeways. Lehmann would be boring them to tears over his claims to still be the best ‘keeper at Arsenal, Gallas’ tearful diatribes on how he will speak his mind now he is Captain and Eboue running round in a Gorilla suit because he is the joker would drive anyone insane. Perhaps that is why they have not healed quickly enough? The Quacks will be stoned up to the eyeballs on Ketamine to allow them to pass a day in that trio’s company.

Imagine that you make cars. You are the biggest automaker in the world and you more or less own the market, particularly the corporate fleet segment. Because almost everyone has one of your cars, if you want them to keep paying you money you have to come up with a better car. The answer, you think, is not to improve what you have but to spend a huge amount of money and time and roll out a new design. This design is based on the previous design (it still carries people and goods around) but it has a new dashboard layout, new tire design, new door mechanisms — pretty much everything has been upgraded or at least tweaked. You ramp up production and sell, sell, sell. This is the way forward, the future of your company. Read more.

(In which I intercept other people's mail and answer their questions for them. The original, non-excerpted letter and response may be read here, at The Chicago Sun Times.)Dear Ellie,My sister's friend is supposedly homeschooling her two children, ages 6 and 7. These well-educated parents don't believe in structured learning. They feel if children want to learn something, they'll ask. That isn't such an uncommon philosophy of education. It goes by different names, with different emphases: unschooling, delight-directed learning and child-directed learning are three of the most popular terms I know of which more or less describe this general idea. In schools of education you might encounter something similar known by the more technical term of "constructivism," or even "maturationism," depending on the degree of involvement from adults in assisting the child in the learning process. While I think these theories have obvious drawbacks in a classroom setting, they can be quite ef
The Arizona Cardinals “D” last year gave up 27 or more points a total of seven times and allowed less than 20 only twice. In switching to a 3-4 Defense under new coach, former Pittsburgh Steelers’ Offensive “whiz” Ken Whisenhut, the Cards wants to mix it up a bit and utilize their speed on the outside. Arizona will move defensive ends Chike Okeafor (16 sacks past two seasons) and Bertrand Berry (26 ½ sacks past three seasons) to OLB. Former Auburn great Karlos Dansby, the team leader on defense, will move from outside to inside linebacker.
Dansby is the heart and soul of this young defense and he is their best player, producing totals of 82 tackles, two forced fumbles, and eight sacks in ’06. He is who we thought he was (Denny Green)! Former Seminole Darnell Dockett will move from inside to outside, now as the DE, leaving his regular DT position. Expect Dockett to take full advantage of this new opportunity, getting to the QB for 10-12 sacks this season.

Over the past four months, I have had an excellent adventure developing sources and my blog business. It has been great monitoring this blogs success rate and sharing everything I have learned along the way. Today I’ve decided to share an optimization point of view that believe or not we all learned as children.
For those of us that are out of school remember back and if you are in school just look around and point out the popular kid(s). Were you popular? It doesn’t matter maybe you were or maybe you weren’t but you understand the meaning behind being popular.
A lesson learned very early that carries on through all aspects of life and it’s even relevant for blogging success. Simply put popularity equals optimization (PEO) on the net.
Friends – seek out popular friends (sites) and you will soon start to realize a state of PEO. You must also portray popularity qualities to ensure that you are building your network of readers (friends)

The latest diesel-powered cars offered in Europe come close to - and in a lot of cases beat - hybrid-electric cars like Toyota's Prius in the mileage stakes, so imagine what would happen if you combined the best of both technologies. France's Peugeot hopes to do just that and by becoming the first carmaker to launch a diesel-electric hybrid by the end of the decade. The recently launched midsize Peugeot 308 hatch will be the first vehicle fitted with the new powertrain, but it's likely other models will soon follow suit if it proves to be successful. The Peugeot diesel hybrid should average better than 70mpg (58.3mpg US), which would mean its emissions levels would be lower than most other cars except for pure electric vehicles. By comparison, the Prius rates 65.7mpg (54.7mpg US). However, most motoring mags have found its real-world fuel economy ratings to be much lower. The only factor holding back the release of the hybrid 308 is the high cost of the batteries and electric motor, bu
If you ride or have ever ridden a motorcycle, then you have experienced the feeling of total freedom. A motorcycle of today is so easy to ride all you really have to do is keep your balance and hang on. Well, it may not be quite that simple. There are a few variables that come into play such as weather, road conditions, and other motorists. Of the three just mentioned, which do you think is the most important? If you said other motorists, you are correct.
According to the National Highway Safety Administration nearly half of all motorcyle fatalities were caused by a crash with another vehicle. Half of those involved alcohol and a little over a third involved speeding. Now if someone pulls out in front of you, there’s not much you can do about that. The alcohol and speeding are well within a person’s control, so that is on that person and nobody else. (more…)
In my last post, I mentioned “Nothing Equals Nothing” and that “If you do not help yourself, the universe can only help you so much!” That is the basic principle I advocate when practicing success. If you want something, you have to at least do something to get it.
Now, I would like you to think back again from your past experience. Have you ever encounter the following situation or similar situation.
You had a crush on a handsome classmate. He always has swarms of girls around him and you are too shy to make a move on him. You keep the little crush a secret even from your best friend. You only steal glances at him. But you dream all you want, all day long, all night long that he’s your steady but never make any sort of move but nonetheless you hope your dream will come true. The years went by and you graduated but nothing from your dream came true. Sad? Definitely. But hey, whats the problem? You manifested all year long but why does it not come true? Well, if y
So I wrote and then deleted several paragraphs noting what a fool Bill Maher is in the piece below. Most of the words had too many syllables and letters for him to understand anyway. See? I can be just as erudite and enlightened as him. Oh wait I was being arrogant and dismissive. Same thing to him I guess. He goes on and on about the erudite intellectualism of the French and how much we took from them during our Revolutionary years. The thing he forgets is that countries change. The country that almost bankrupted itself to help us against the British is not the same France of today. The same can be said of the rest of Europe. The obvious example is Britain itself. They are our most staunch allies now but were the hated Redcoats just a couple of hundred years ago. I would say that chances are Bill Maher has not lived in the Europe of his dreams. And that would be because it doesn't exist. I have lived in Europe and I was quite glad to get back to the good ol US of A. But as fa
Well, the first thing Brussels Airlines did, was to piss off the aircrew by implementing new work schedules without consulting the crew. So the first days, they did several actions, barely avoiding a strike. Now they threaten to actually go on strike. I think there is one coming in the next days. So hey, it seems things did not get much better! So what did my first hand expert testing of the new airline come up with?Well, I did not want to test the quality of Brussels Airlines.. (imagine a small high pitched voice with corner of the lips curled down and a real real sad face). I merely wanted to book a ticket with my frequent traveler miles!! Boohoo… And I couldn’t Boohhoooo… (hand me a hanky!).Booking using miles was a breeze at the time of SN, but boy, on the new Privilege website (the frequent flyer program of SN, now Brussels), it seemed EITHER they hid the booking feature real well, or it was not possible anymore to book flight online with miles…No problem, I thought, I will

Don’t worry about your kids getting fatter just because McDonalds is trying to get them to move from the quarter pounder to a new, black angus beef third-pounder.
It won’t work.
They’re American kids.
They don’t know that a third is bigger than a quarter.

An energetic East London combo, the Equals balanced maximum R&B with plenty of pop, plus a few nods to vocalist Eddy Grant's West Indian background. Grant, born in British Guyana, moved to England with his family at the age of 12, and settled in a council estate named Hornsey Rise in northeast London. Four years later, he formed the Equals with schoolmates Lincoln Gordon (guitar), his twin brother Dervin Gordon (originally the vocalist), Pat Lloyd (guitar, then bass), and drummer John Hall. The band began gigging around London, amazing audiences with their apparently limitless energy and a distinct style fusing pop, blues, and R&B plus elements of ska and bluebeat.By 1965, the Equals began doing dates in Europe as well, and released their first single on President Records. Though "Hold Me Closer" didn't perform on the charts, DJs began playing the flip side and by 1967 "Baby, Come Back" had hit the top of the charts in Germany and the Netherlands. One year later, the single hit numbe
Nicky Henderson's horses are a lot like a Bus. No winners for 32 runners and BANG 2 come in one day. He was of course always going to break his losing sequence but did he have to have 2 winners when I laid them? lol.I lost 1.5 points today and I'm lucky to of gotten off that lightly really. I managed to lay 2 horses IR for 3% when before the off they were both in the 1.8% bracket. I just really cannot get going this month, it's literally one step forward, 2 steps backward. But I do still have 8 days to sort it out and with 5 meetings tomorrow there should be plenty of selections to get stuck into. The basis of my system is speed figures and adjusted speed figures. I've noticed a little trend that quite a few of my winners have come from horses that are trying a new trip. King After, Cerebus, Convinial Spirit, Petrosian to name a few. I've looked at my ratings and it's trying to predict a figure for the new distance. It's obviously not predicting them too well, lol. I'm going to

As millions of Americans revel in St. Patrick's Day celebrations, the maker of the country's leading Sauerkraut brands, Silver Floss® and Krrrrisp Kraut®, has the solution to corned beef leftovers - the perfect Reuben sandwich. The Reuben combines grilled or toasted rye bread with the hearty flavor of corned beef, a St. Patrick's Day staple. Swiss cheese, sweet and tangy Thousand Island dressing, and crunchy Sauerkraut help make for a delectable sandwich."We're inundated with requests for Reuben sandwich recipes this time of year," said Ryan Downs, co-owner of Great Lakes Kraut Co. "Reuben fans also crave our recipes for Sauerkraut Reuben Balls, Reuben Pierogies, and Reuben Soup."Reubens and other sandwiches are eaten at home more than any other entrée, according to a 2006 study by consumer trend researcher The NPD Group. More than one of nine homemade dinners includes a sandwich, the study said.Tracing the Reuben's origin sparks emotionally charged debate. Some people say the f
Over drinks, it has been discussed many a time: the science of tushology. As a friend of mine put it, a tush is the ultimate perfection (what most super models have), an ass includes the majority of fairly attractive women, and a butt is the bottom of the totem pole. An article in the New York Times even outlined the mathematical equation explaining tushology:"The equation that describes the quality of the female rear end, according to Holmes, is (S + C) x (B + F)/T - V, where S = Overall Shape ("including tendency to droop"), C = Circularity, B = Bounce Factor (not to be confused with "wobble"), F = Firmness (with perfect being "like a comfy bed"), T = Skin Texture and V = Vertical Ratio (the goal: "on the top-heavy side of symmetrical"). For the male rear end, the equation replaces bounce, circularity and vertical ratio with M (Muscularity), L (Leanness) and O (Overall Symmetry)."Is it no wonder then that Jessica Biel has chosen to display her derriere, following in t
Why does Daddy insist on me doing tummy-time? I’m sure he realises that I drool (a lot) when I’m on my tummy. Oh well, if he’s ok with the sofa being wet with my drool, then *sigh* … tummy-time it is …
I’m tired ….. I think I’ll just lie down and suck my fist.
Mark Hurst's Good Experience e-mail yesterday caught my eye. It started with this:
I recently received an unforgettable fax from my
bank. The bank's logo was in the upper-left of the page, visible and
clear, but that was just about the only thing on the page that I
understood.
Just below the logo, in bold letters - the only bold text on the page - read the following:
ACH Rules require that you make the changes specified in the NOC within six banking days or face possible fine. (The full article: http://www.goodexperience.com/blog/archives/000997.php)How many times have all of us received one of THOSE letters. We didn't do something right. Or regulations changed, and we missed the news release? Heaven forbid we not be proactive in taking action.
It happens most regularly in highly regulated businesses - financial services, legal, property, etc. We got the "notice" written in gibberish and out of fear call to respond.
What if one of those highly regulated businesses turned
PicottiThe man sits to one side, with his weight on an arm behind him and his knees bent, resting one on the floor. His partner sits on him, with her back to him and leans forward, rocking herself on her arms and rubbing herself against his legs, to bring them both to a climax. With his free hand; then man can caress the woman's breasts, buttocks and anus. This is a position for a rug on the ground, rather than a mattress, which will be too soft.Spanish OmeletteThis is a position almost similar to Picotti where the man has full access to the female's rear. The man sits, with his weight on his right arm and his legs outstretched. The woman sits astride him, with her back to him and leans forwards, supporting herself on her arms. While she controls the movement, his hands are free to caress her buttocks and clitoris.Kneeling Lotus PositionIt's the lotus position, but instead of sitting down, the two kneels in front of one another. with the woman's inner thighs occupying her partne
