I went onto The Jewish Week and looked at the poll they had up today, asking, "Do you think former British Prime Minister Tony Blair is a wise choice as the new Mideast envoy?" Here are the results:229 people said No194 people said YesAnd here's my explanation as to why he's a bad choice: because, simply put, he goes by the approach of appeasement, all too common in Britain nowadays. Boo for Tony phony!

LUSAKA, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) — UN special envoy on HIV-AIDS in Africa Elizabeth Mataka said here Friday that she will concentrate on uplifting the plight of women and children in her tenure of office.
Mataka expressed concern at the increasing vulnerability among women and children especially in Africa.
She said time has come for Africa to nurture women and children as they have potential to contribute to national development.
She called on society to embrace this grouping, saying that the HIV-AIDS pandemic has continued to burden many economies including Zambia’s.
Mataka was speaking when Zambian Vice President Rupiah Banda officially launched the David Emmett Children International Center.
Mataka, who is also Children International Board chairperson, appealed to the vice president to consider allocating land to organizations that have passion for issues concerning children.
She also said that most institutions looking into the pl
Will Blair help or hurt in his new job as an envoy? That's what this JTA article is asking, but I think the answers can pretty much be figured out:Tony Blair's frequent calls for the need to create a Palestinian state and his vital support for the Iraq war raise major questions for officials in Jerusalem and Arab capitals.WASHINGTON (JTA) – Tony Blair brings a lot to his new job as a peace envoy: His hands-on experience as British prime minister in dealing with Middle East issues, the confidence President Bush places in him as a loyal supporter of the Iraq war, a long-held view that resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is vital to stabilizing the region. The question in this case is whether "a lot" constitutes useful experience or debilitating baggage.Answer: he will only bring baggage that we in Israel will have to carry as our horrid burden. And I don't agree at all with this article that says that Blair is leaving a legacy of support for Israel. Not at all.
David Aaronovitch of timesonline.co.uk writes:
“The departing Prime Minister is Bliar, the mendacious, spin-obsessed, manipulating fraudster who lied to take us to war, undermined our independent civil service, took cash from the rich and rewarded them with peerages and favourable decisions, and suborn our politics.”

Jakarta's slighted Governor Sutiyoso says Australia's ambassador to Indonesia Bill Farmer has personally apologised for his alleged ill treatment by police in Sydney. Sutiyoso this week cut short his visit to Australia, made at the invitation of the NSW Government, after NSW Police went to his Sydney hotel room and asked him to testify at an inquest related to the deaths of five Australian-based journalists at Balibo in East Timor in 1975. Sutiyoso has accused police of rude and inappropriate behaviour, alleging they used a master key to barge into his hotel room and ask him to testify. Police deny gaining unauthorised entry to his room.Earlier: Indonesia summons Australian ambassador after gove...
