I just found out about a service that removes and recycles junk vehicles for FREE in an environmentally friendly way. It is called Northwest Auto Recyclers. Their web address is www.NWAutoRecyclers.com. Apparently they will pick up your wrecked vehicle from your home or from the tow-truck yard; drain and dispose of all the fluids, remove and recycle the battery, tires, etc. and will then have the car crushed and the scrap metal recycled.

Today I saw on the news a guy had decked out his house to be essentially covered in Christmas lights. His house was incredibly bright at night. The focus of the story was how the traffic nearby was affected by it, and whether or not that made traffic cops necessary. The Nokia 3110 Evolve is the latest in a series of environmental initiatives from the company. For example, Nokia was the first manufacturer to put alerts into its devices to encourage people to unplug their chargers. The power that could be saved globally by all Nokia phone users unplugging their chargers when no longer needed is equivalent to enough energy to power 100,000 average-size European homes. In February 2006, Nokia also introduced new compact packaging that reduced materials used by 54%, a move which by the end of this year will have resulted in 5,000 fewer trucks needed to distribute products, reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions, and savings of EUR
Eco-fashion is something we are all aware of and people are sure to check them out. Among them, fur coats, jackets and clothing have been criticized for its origin which most would refer to animals which have to be safeguarded as well.

It’s disappointing that the iPhone, which Apple pitches as the innovative and intuitive “revolutionary device” of tomorrow, is actually one of the least environmentally-friendly handsets on the mobile phone market.
A Greenpeace report released yesterday pointed to Apple’s use of toxic chemicals in the iPhone, including brominated flame retardants and PVCs, which are so harmful to the environment that other cell phone companies have abandoned them.
“Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and Motorola have removed some of the worst chemicals from their phones and identified extra toxic chemicals they intend to remove in the future — even beyond the minimal legal requirements,” Greenpeace said on its website.
So what is Apple waiting for? I think their progressive reputation would benefit from a campaign to make the iPhone more environmentally friendly. Here are three things they could do to get started:

Greg and I do some environmentally friendly things on accident, some things we do by preference, or because they save us money. So just think helping the environment just may save you money too.
1. We use compact fluorescent bulbs on all of our lamps and light fixtures.
2. After we are done using a light, we cut it off. We also don’t leave electronics on if we aren’t using them.
3. We wash what’s necessary such as undies, socks, pjs, and tees. Pants/jeans, hoodies, and special shirts can be worn many times before having to wash them. I used to think there was a need to wash all of my clothes each time I wore them, after discovering how fast things fade being overly washed, I started taking off my “public” clothes, putting them up on hangers and changing into pjs/loungewear.
