A two-year study introduced a multifaceted nutrition policy in several K-8 Philadelphia schools. Soda was replaced with water, 100 percent fruit juice and low-fat milk. Snacks were capped at 7 grams of total fat, 2 grams of saturated fat, 360 milligrams of sodium and 15 grams of sugar per serving. Candy was eliminated from the school premises. As I was going through my regular health webpage reads, I came across a post about air pollution and exercising outdoors. The tips to help deal with this were somewhat interesting, but I found the comments and the belief that exercising indoors, particularly in a gym ironic, frustrating and funny all at once. Gyms are another indicator that our society has gotten a little bit upside down. These are heated and cooled, lighted places where people can use machines that may or may not require electricity to make sure they're getting enough exercise. According to an article in the Gulf Times today, a waste plant which will be opened next year will produce enough electricity (40 mega watts) both to power all the plant's needs and those of its 400 employees and their families.
