Zimbabwe’s Minister of Justice, Patrick Chinamasa, made it clear his government would not allow international observers to monitor the run-off election. He said the ruling Zanu-PF party would not succumb to outside pressure from either the opposition or other nations of the world, but would defend their right to control an election. “We will not [...]

The devices and implements used for fighting plant enemies are of two sorts: (1) those used to afford mechanical protection to the plants; (2) those used to apply insecticides and fungicides. Of the first the most useful is the covered frame. It consists usually of a wooden box, some eighteen inches to two feet square and about eight high, covered with glass, protecting cloth, mosquito netting or mosquito wire. The first two coverings have, of course, the additional advantage of retaining heat and protecting from cold, making it possible by their use to plant earlier than is otherwise safe. They are used extensively in getting an extra early and safe start with cucumbers, melons and the other vine vegetables. Simpler devices for protecting newly-set plants, such as tomatoes or cabbage,

If Hillary doesn't win big today in Pennsylvania, pundits predict that she'll be out of the race (though she likely won't step out of it until she's told to).My opinion: let's hope she's, in fact, 'in it to win it,' -- because while she and Obama are chewing slowly on each other's ankles, we have learned much more about Obama the Man (get used to hearing that; because he won't just be the first (real) black President, he'll also be 'The Man', and you won't be able to blame 'The Man' for being White, rich, and out of touch ... er, although he will still be the rich and out of touch part).Anyway, while Clinton 2.0 is still running, Obama is talking about issues; if she leaves, we'll have to put up with harrassing language ag

This is an excerpt from a speech by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called Loving Your Enemies, presented on November 17, 1957.
...So I want to turn your attention to this subject: "Loving Your Enemies." It’s so basic to me because it is a part of my basic philosophical and theological orientation—the whole idea of love, the whole philosophy of love. In the fifth chapter of the gospel as recorded by Saint Matthew, we read these very arresting words flowing from the lips of our Lord and Master: "Ye have heard that it has been said, ‘Thou shall love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy.’ But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you; that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven.

Many stories, legends, even the Hollywood movies set this theme as their focus in their stories. In Bali there are also many stories about good and bad. Ever since I was a little tyke, I have had a special fondness for bad guys who dress like the heroes they fight. What if one planet has highly-evolved glowing humanoids who are benevolent and caring? Another planet has reptilian demons with tough skin and horns atop ugly heads. These creatures are warriors, and demand universal domination. Angels keep them in line. What if both societies are so far along that they can tap into human consciousness and influence our decisions? Angels may believe it best not to interfere unless to combat demons. Demons, on the other hand, love manipulating humans, as each act of manipulation furthers their overall cause of making us into malleable slaves. When someone says, "The devil made me do it," they may more often than not be lying, using a traditional claim to cover personal wrongdoing. But on some rare occasions, maybe a devil, a demon, did bend a human to its will? What if the demons really are offshoots of the angels, and reached their current physical state through genetic modification? Could the modifications have been involuntarily imposed as punish
Mann to Ambush Depp Outside the Biograph: Michael Mann and Johnny Depp have agreed to film “Public Enemies”. It’ll be a Chicago-based film about Depression-era gangsters set in 1933 to 1934.Depp will play John Dillinger, according to Variety. The film is slated to start shooting in Chicago on March 10, 2008.Michael Mann.Photo credit: IMDbMann wrote the script based on the book by Bryan Burroughs. Depp recently backed out of Mira Nair’s “Shantaram” due to WGA strike-related script problems.Since 2006’s “Miami Vice,” Mann has been jumping on and off abandoned projects. “Public Enemies” sounds close in tone and period to an untitled Hollywood noir written by John Logan that stars Leonardo DiCaprio. That project fell through due to a budget climbing in excess of $100 million.Mann also was attached to “Empire” – a media-mogul drama again written by Logan (which its proposed star, Will Smith, recently compared to “Richard III”) – along with a former Martin

With production volume way down, massive job cuts and a worsening reputation, Countrywide has joined forces with its arch enemy, the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America (NACA). The nation's largest lender and its harshest critic and community advocacy group have partnered and come up with a program that Bruce Mark, NACA's CEO, would like to see become the standard in foreclosure prevention.
The Countrywide/NACA partnership and initiative comes on the heels of the program announced on Tuesday by Countrywide where it would refinance, restructure and reduce rates for ARM borrowers. The difference between that program and this one is that this program would apply to all clients - prime, subprime, fixed and adjustable.
To be a part of the program, borrowers must complete an application on NACA's web site, attend a 4 hour long home buyer's workshop and make an appointment for one-on-one counseling sessions of about 2 hours each.
The initiative hopes to ease the hit borrow

Steve Golberg & The Arch EnemiesGenre: Indie / Pop / RockFrom: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania United StatesFrom deep in the bowels of a secret recording studio somewhere on planet earth, Steve Goldberg with his merry band of orchestral mercenaries and every possible symphonic instrument known to man (and some that probably haven't even been invented yet) has produced an elaborately orchestrated pop masterpiece. In the wrong hands this could easily have turned into the sort of overblown sugary mush that rots the brain and drives fully grown adults to reach for the revolver. Not so with monsieur Goldberg who manages to coral his Arch Enemies and their multitude of instruments into a tight set of literate pop songs akin to Sufjan Stevens covering the collected works of They Might Be Giants or a rock opera about the life and times of XTC written and performed by Stephen Merritt. All of which is topped off by an intelligent and unique approach to the rhyming couplet as evidenced by rhyming o

This is the first of of a two part documentary in which Richard Dawkins tackles the epidemic of irrational, and superstitious thinking. The topics covered include astrology, crystal healing, dowsing and psychic ability.

As an aside, for about 3 months i’ve been contacting psychics and astrologers asking them if they would be willing to appear on my blog to demonstrate their skills to both myself and my skeptical readers.
Not one person has taken me up on it. Interesting? I think so. I will continue my search and hopefully just one person is willing to put their ‘ability’ up for scrutiny. I don’t hold out much hope however. Many have promised and then disappeared. I can only conclude that all psychics and astrologers are frauds. I will continue to believe this until I see evidence to the contrary. I’m not asking for a free service, I’m willing to pay them for their time but alas I’m sure it’s better to pray on the weak and needy
When I was 21, I visited my Grandma’s house, and (in an unusual impulse of helpfulness) spent some time raking in her backyard. I had a short military haircut, having enlisted in the Army a little more than a year before. A little four-year-old boy came over to see what I was doing, and to tell me (as boys do, to men everywhere) things of serious manly import, like the name of his dog or the cool beetle he’d found the day before. Man-to-man, I nodded sage approval and continued raking, until a startling question commanded my full attention:
“Are you a Daddy?”
The boy seemed to be trying to organize me into the proper category, but he wasn’t sure if I was a big kid or a Daddy, or if there was perhaps a third category.
For a moment, I stopped breathing, stunned speechless by the enormity of the question. Until that day, I had considered myself a teenager, or a college student and (more recently) a soldier. But in the time it took him to frame that
Occasionally, there's still some good stuff on television in between the deluge of reality shows and gospel channels. On Channel 4 in Britain later this month, Richard Dawkins will turn his guns on New Age "therapies" in a two-part documentary entitled "The Enemies of Reason," and all I want to say is: Why aren't there more programs like that and more people like Professor Dawkins?
Prof Dawkins says that alternative remedies constitute little more than a "money-spinning, multi-million pound industry that impoverishes our culture and throws up new age gurus who exhort us to run away from reality".
The 66-year-old scientist has investigated a range of gurus and therapists, including faith healers, psychic mediums, angel therapists, "aura photographers", astrologers, Tarot card readers and water diviners, and concluded that Britain is gripped by "an epidemic of superstitious thinking".
Britons spend more than £1.6 billion a year on alternative remedies which Prof Dawkins describe

He taught in Austria until 1937, when he emigrated to New Zealand in anticipation of the Nazi annexation of Austria the following year, and he settled in England in 1949. Before the annexation, Popper had written mainly about the philosophy of science, but from 1938 until the end of the Second World War he focused his energies on political philosophy, seeking to diagnose the intellectual origins of German and Soviet totalitarianism. The Open Society and Its Enemies was the result. In the book, Popper condemned Plato, Marx, and Hegel as "holists" and "historicists"--a holist, according to Popper, believes that individuals are formed entirely by their social groups; historicists believe that social groups evolve according to internal principles that it is the intellectual's

That’s right folks, after much begging, appealing and convincing, Mindy has reluctantly agreed to give us a few minutes of her time each week.
ASK MINDY will feature a three minute podcast with Mindy where she will answer a question presented by her husband Ariah, or maybe even emailed in by a listener. She’ll share her brilliance with the rest of the world in bit size chunks for all to enjoy.
So, what are you waiting for? Check it out today.
Then I posted about yet another reason I don’t shop at the ever sexist and racist Abercrombie:

You can consider this an installment in my Romans series as well. I sort of trailed off there. . . .
Nothing is too low for the Democrats if they think it will give them the slightest political advantage. ~RJH Watchblog article linkWith Friends Like US, Who Needs EnemiesNot only is anti-Americanism generally cost free; it provides some immunity from criticism. Leftists worldwide, and also in America, tend to lay off despots standing on their hind legs to criticize the U.S., while Americas friends are harshly scrutinized. Consider the disgraceful treatment Columbias President Alvaro Uribe got from such discriminating people as Pelosi & Gore. Pelosi, who figuratively kissed Assad in Syria, scolded a democratically elected U.S. ally like Uribe. She made no mention of the friendship she extended to her new BFF Bashar. Al Gore made a special point of dissing Uribe by canceling a joint appearance and generally treating a good ally as the skunk at a garden party. What did Uribe do to deserve this? The proximate cause is a proposed free trade agreement with the U.S. Democratic politi

Newsvine article link Forbes: Halliburton does business in Dubai to avoid trade laws which prevent nuclear technology going to US foes Seeded by KillfileOn paper the shipment was harmless enough. Sixty-six American-made spark gaps--high-speed electrical switches used in medical devices to break up kidney stones--traveled from the manufacturer in Salem, Massachusetts late last summer to a buyer in Secaucus, New Jersey. From there, according to the export declaration, they were to be shipped to their ultimate destination in Cape Town, South Africa. But these spark gaps can also be used to detonate nuclear bombs--and it turned out that the goods were aimed at an end user in Pakistan, with a stopover in Dubai. Democrats always seem at a loss to understand why they are called terrorist sympathizers. The following piece from The Nation is the perfect example of their love for the enemies of America. Once again they show themselves more concerned about the "suffering" of criminals, terrorists and enemy combatants than their victims. The left bristles whenever their patriotism is questioned yet they continue to have lovefests such as this article on behalf of those poor poor misunderstood psychopaths. But it is a good thing as it reveals to average Americans how out of touch with reality the fringe left and by association the Democrat party really is. As always it comes back to the same thing for Democrats: anything is acceptable if it will harm George Bush. You'll notice I specifically said "Democrats" that time and not the "far left" with the reason being that if the Democrat party doesn't denounce the actions and words of their moonbat contingent it is a tacit admission of acceptance on t
