We quote the ending comment:
THE FAILURE OF COMPETITION
In the competition for declining oil reserves, ultimately everyone will lose. In the process of struggling for world domination and energy domination, both militarily and economically, we will drain the world’s remaining energy supplies without preparing for the coming transition. The ne

Said Sun Tzu, “All warfare is based on deception, when able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away.” In a recent piece over at Commentary Emanuele Ottolenghi suggests that Iran is pulling the wool over the world’s foreign policy intellectuals heads through clever techniques that propagate

I Don't know how much I subscribe to the concept of a New World Order within any tyime soon, but at the same time I don't exactly subscribe to the notion that it won't happen in the near future. But one thing about this video is that it presents a lot of global history that I didn't know about that are interesting topics unto themselves. So if you have some time to look beyond the major theme in t
Days after the dollar touched a new nadir against the euro -– indeed, one euro briefly fetched $1.60, a symbolic milestone -– the beleaguered buck is enjoying a bounce. Some even saw a parallel to politics. “Just like Hillary Clinton, when all seemed bleak, USD staged an almost improbable recovery,” wrote David Watt, a currency strategist at RBC Capital Markets late Thursday.By this morning, one euro bought about $1.56.Of course, the dollar has had many such minor rebounds, and they always turn out to be short-lived. Several currency experts, however, see a hint that something different might be happening this time around.Much of the euro’s recent invincibility stems from two factors. One, economic growth in the euro zone has been remarkably impervious to events in the U.S. Two, t
From the Blogger News Network : Today while speaking in Aliquippa, PA Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton called on President Bush to use his speech tomorrow to talk about the endgame for the Iraq war. "I have two requests of President Bush for his speech on Thursday. First, I call on the President to answer the question that General Petraeus did not. What is our end game in Iraq given the failure of surge to achieve the objective that the president outlined for it? Second, I call on President Bush to pledge to the American people, who have sacrificed greatly for this effort that the United States Congress will have the chance to review and vote on any long-term security agreement he has negotiated with the Iraqis," Clinton said.
This week for our dueling review and movie of the week, we picked “Endgame” or as it’s also known “Endgame - Bronx lotta finale“. Endgame is directed by the famed Joe D’Amato and stars Al Cliver as badass Ron Shannon, and George Eastman as the hunter Kurt Karnak.
Endgame takes place in New York City [...]
The game of chess is all about strategies and tactics. There are three stages in a game of chess, and each one is critical.
The first stage is the opening, a sequence of moves in which the players bring out their pieces. The opening sequence shapes a player’s overall results. The opening is often designed [...]
Sleepers for keeper leagues and free agents to target for shallower mixed leagues.
I was fortunate to serve as Pat's wingman in the inaugural player auction of the Independence League, an AL/NL 10 team keeper league. Evidenced by the paucity of my posts, I have not approached Pat's depth of preparation for this season; I was happy to help with list management and for the most part, let Pat
I was drafted into the Croydon League to play at Coulsdon on Wednesday. It was, shall we say, not a successful journey. After a comprehensive gubbing at the hands of former S&BCCer Kevin Bailey I was nosing through their collection of second hand books when I noticed they had a copy of Edmar Mednis' From the Opening Into the Endgame available for sale. That's worth a pound of anybody's money I thought. As it turned out I didn't actually have any change on me (students eh?) so it was a quid borrowed from Martin Smith that I gave them for the book. One of the reasons I wanted to get the book is the chapter based around the position at the top of today's blog. It has always greatly amused me. Precisely symmetrical other than the position of the Knights. Can White really convert a two tempo a
This is a short write up on how you should behave in endgame raids as ranged DPS. I have all too oftenseen people make the equal mistakes, and generally act stupid, sothese are my explanation on the ranged classes...and how they shouldbe played. I include a blue-geared 60 mage and 60 hunter and an epic 60warlock, so I have been roughly and I do know how 2P smile. The discussion os paying attention on endgame raids (10 man and up) and how tofill your DPS to the max. As such, the build may not be optimal forPVP. Also, these are my own experience; others may feel different. So feel free to chime in HunterBuildsHunter is all about DPS, and lots of it. More frequently than not, you won't useyour pet, so this build is paying attention around marksmanship andtraps. gear is pretty directly forward.

One day, we may look back on Sept. 17 as the official beginning of the end for Microsoft’s dominance. Two separate events signaled the shift; one was the European Union court’s harsh ruling against Microsoft itself, charging that the world’s No. 1 software maker had abused its monopoly power to harm competitors. The verdict was expected – and showed that European bureaucrats had more courage than the U.S. Justice Department.
The other important announcement was IBM’s offering of Lotus Symphony, a suite of office applications, for free. This is just the latest bullet to the head of Microsoft’s cash cow. Years ago, when Google CEO Eric Schmidt ran Novell – and tried to save the faltering networking company – he argued that Microsoft’s real stranglehold on the PC market was not the Windows operating system but its Office productivity software suite.
Most users could care less about operating systems, he said, but they wanted to run Microsoft Offi

An indispensable guide to strategic best practices for business mergers
Thirteen years ago, the experts at A. T. Kearney embarked on a landmark, worldwide study of business mergers. Encompassing 25,000 companies across 24 industries in 53 countries, the study revealed much crucial information that was previously unknown about business consolidation. This book
Yesterday I attended the 'Next Generation Network Conference', hosted by Euromoney's Global Telecoms Business, in Amsterdam. Thanks for inviting me!
It was an interesting day, even if there wasn't so much really new. I enjoyed talking to telco and vendor officials, most notably Dirk 'Amsterdam' van der Woude.
Below I will summarize my take of the views on a number of trends (which I regularly
William Shakespeare once wrote, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” What’s in a name? Plenty, when the lives of millions of immigrants of color are at stake. Here, Shakespeare and subjects like love are not applicable. Here, the name game attains far [...]
I was listening to someone on the BBC Radio4 Today program this morning talking about how the USA seemed to be provoking Iran, and how, in turn, Iran blamed its own internal dissent on CIA plotting. Of course the CIA do have form, and lots of it, in this area so they are an easy target for such accusations. It got me to thinking about what the USA stood to gain from such an approach. What are large, powerful armies good at and what are they bad at? They are good at fighting for limited objectives. They are bad at policing, and especially policing a civil war (there is a wonderful bit in Proverbs about a man being a fool who stands between two dogs fighting in the street). The USA wants an exit strategy from Iraq. It would have been nice if they'd planned such a thing before they went in, but that is water under the bridge. They also have no hope of establishing a peaceful puppet state in the region. So what would be the military objective of a conflict with Iran? Pretty much the sam
"Thirty next Friday, aren't you Tom?" an office buddy asked me today. Indeed . . . and then we got on to discussing the ways age brings change, and also the ways it doesn't.For me, it mostly doesn't - or so I told my friend. I still have very similar dislikes and likes to when I was twenty, I said. With age, I've not developed the sophistication that prefers wine to beer, and I still can't stand anything Martin Amis has written. I still like Bach, but I still like Oasis, too. And much to my regret, I can't pretend to enjoy Citizen Kane when Jurassic Park is available on the shelf of DVDs instead. My office mate is not a chess player, but then it struck me maybe my chess tastes have transformed over time. Ten years ago, my heroes were Kasparov and Tal. And mostly Tal, too. Yet once our office conversation was over, I spent too much of the rest of the afternoon contemplating the position in the diagram.Dull, I would have called it ten years ago. But in fact, white faces a simple but
Premise One: Civilization is not and can never be sustainable. This is especially true for industrial civilization.Premise Two: Traditional communities do not often voluntarily give up or sell the resources on which their communities are based until their communities have been destroyed. They also do not willingly allow their landbases to be damaged so that other resources—gold, oil, and so on—can be extracted. It follows that those who want the resources will do what they can to destroy traditional communities.Premise Three: Our way of living—industrial civilization—is based on, requires, and would collapse very quickly without persistent and widespread violence.Premise Four: Civilization is based on a clearly defined and widely accepted yet often unarticulated hierarchy. Violence done by those higher on the hierarchy to those lower is nearly always invisible, that is, unnoticed. When it is noticed, it is fully rationalized. Violence done by those lower on the hierarchy to tho
