Emirates launches Dubai-Sao Paulo serviceEmirates launched its first flights to Brazil this week, with a six-weekly service from Dubai to Sao Paulo. The route represents the first direct service between the Middle East and South America. Flight EK261 departs Dubai at 1000 daily except Thursday, arriving in Sao Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport at 1830, with the return leg leaving Brazil on flight EK262 at 0125, arriving in Dubai at 2305. Emirates is servicing the route with its Boeing 777-200LR aircraft, which includes the carrier's newest fully-flat beds in business class – the flight is configured for eight first class suites, 42 business class seats, and 216 economy seats. The launch follows the carrier's inauguration of its Dubai-Newcastle service last month, and precedes the Dubai-Houston route this December which will also feature the 777-200 product. International oil companies could begin oil exploration off the coast of Bahrain before the end of next year, Minister of Oil and Gas Affairs Dr Abdulhussain Mirza told GDN yesterday.Dr Mirza - who also serves as chairman of the National Oil and Gas Authority (Noga) and chairman of the Tender Board - revealed three major oil firms submitted official exploration bids before yesterday's deadline for four blocks comprising Bahrain's entire offshore acreage.American oil firm Occidental, Russian state-owned firm Zarubezhneft and an as yet unnamed Thai company believed to be the country's state-owned firm PTT Public Company Limited have submitted bids."We got three bids and we will open them tomorrow. Officials are fresh back from talks between the GCC and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), to map out the possibilities. A final feasibility report is expected by March 5, it was revealed yesterday. Diet drug rimonabant (Acomplia / Zimulti) is now available in the United Arab Emirates for treatment of abdominally obese patients with cardiometabolic risk factors, according to a June 4th announcement by developer Sanofi-Aventis. This is the first announced launch of Acomplia in the Middle East. The drug has been available for almost a year in Europe, and also is on sale in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. Technip, in consortium with Bechtel, has signed a contract with Saudi Aramco for the conversion of the Khursaniyah (Saudi Arabia) gas plant project into a lumpsum turnkey contract. The contract was originally awarded to this consortium in March 2005 on a time unit rate basis. This grassroots gas plant project is part of the Khursaniyah, Fadhli and Abu Hadriyah hydrocarbon field development program that will substantially increase Saudi Arabian oil and gas production capacity.
