Kelo v. City of New London, 545 U.S. 469 (2005), was a case decided by the Supreme Court of the United States involving the use of eminent domain to transfer land from one private owner to another to further economic development. The case arose from the condemnation by New London, Connecticut, of privately owned real property so that it could be used as part of a comprehensive redevelopment plan. The Court held in a 5-4 decision that general benefits a community enjoyed from economic growth qualified such redevelopment plans as a permissible "public use" under the Takings Clause of the fifth amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The decision was widely criticized by many who viewed the outcome as a violation of property rights and as a

Small businesses make up the core of the livelihood of an area
oftentimes, blazing the way to develop or to revitalizing areas to be
attractive again.Such has been the case in Hollywood. In the 1990s,
businesses like Daddy's Bar moved into the area along Hollywood and
Vine known as an undesirable area prone to crime. In time, the bar and other small businesses made the area
attractive for tourists and locals. These small businesses have now been
forced out by eminent domain, and the city then sold to redevelopers to
make the whole block into a new upscale W hotel. Watch the video as Drew
Carey interviews the people involved.
This article describes some of the better dive sites in South East Asia. As a scuba diver, you will probably know that scuba diving in South East Asia has always been very popular because of its vast species of marine life and rich diversity of colorful corals. As a matter of fact, there are many world class dive sites in this region and with its excellent underwater visibility, South East Asia is indeed a scuba diver's haven. So, here are some of the top dive sites in South East Asia many of which I have dived in several times. We shall start with Indonesia and of course, the island of Bali cannot be left out. Perhaps the most dived site in Bali is the Liberty wreck. The wreck was a US army logistic ship sunk by Japanese submarine torpedoes during the last world war.Liberty wreck lies in th
Ruff Times at Msbp.com Towers. This is what CP a professional had to say. CP always has a way with language. I just love what CP writes. Expresses my sentiments very well indeed. More from CP tomorrow. This is what he wrote on 04 April 2007 00:47."I have been tempted at times to exterminate these feral vermin and engage in argument with them but firstly this flatters their vanity and belief that they are of some importance and secondly. it is rather like wrestling with greasy pigs. Just when you think you've got them under control, they slip off somewhere else. They cannot sustain a reasoned logical argument and when you apply the QED, they move their ground or run off squealing "I don't want to play anymore because you've beaten me!". The number of times I've heard them say they are leaving the Board or they're going to `get on with their lives' are too numerous to mention. This is xxxx's favourite tactic. Of course they never do give up because the Board and their corresponden

Burawoy argued that sociology should speak beyond the university, engaging with social movements and deepening an understanding of the historical and social context in which they exist. In this volume, renowned sociologists come together to debate the perils and the potentials of Burawoy's challenge. Zip Password: T0sT@rN@

Boing Boing has a nice collection of photos and stories about people who choose not to cave into government and commercial builders and sell their homes for "the good of the community". I really think civic leaders and community planners ought to rethink the way they define the public good. Are malls really for the public good? What about not destroying existing communities and alienating citizens. I hate how eminent domain is used to screw people and really like reading stories like these.
Al - 'Azîz. The Mighty. The Unconquerable. The Strong, Dignified and Powerful. The Eminent. The victorious One whose strength, glory and power are overwhelming and cannot be overcome or resisted.. The One whose dignity, majesty and power are unique, precious and unattainable by mankind. The One who is the ultimate in honor and nobility. The One who has complete mastery over all of creation. The One who is incomparable and unparalleled. The One who is the cherished source of all strength, power and potencyHe it is Who fashioneth you in the wombs as pleaseth Him. There is no God save Him, the Almighty, the Wise. (The Quran 3:6) | transliterationAnd the believers, men and women, are protecting friends one of another; they enjoin the right and forbid the wrong, and they establish worship and they pay the poor-due, and they obey Allah and His messenger. As for these, Allah will have mercy on them. Lo! Allah is Mighty, Wise. (The Quran 9:71) | transliterationAllah’s are the hosts of the
After leaving a meeting this evening, I had a conversation with a man who spoke to me about a possible petition to the city of Alpharetta to use its’ power of eminent domain to transfer ownership of property owned by a family for 100 years and located off of Buice Road to a developer because the family is not interested in selling. If there is anyone who knows more information regarding this matter, please contact me. Your personal information will be protected.
Ever since the Supreme Court validated the taking of private property (eminent domain) for private development, no homes are safe. There was a time when being a home owner allowed you to feel a sense of security. No more! The government can now force you to sell your property, possibly even at an under-market values.
A number of states have passed laws limiting this practice, but not ending it. The key word is limited. Politicians seeking to increase the tax base or help their connected friends still have ways to circumvent the state laws. New York State has not passed any laws limiting this abusive practice.
Property theft in AmericaBy John Stossel
Do you live in a blighted home in a blighted neighborhood? You might without even knowing it.
But don’t worry, your local politicians will be happy to tell you — as soon as some land developer decides your neighborhood would be a great place to build swankier homes or shops.

President Bush has pissed off a lot of people around the world with his unilateralist bent, his unwillingness to grasp nuanced diplomacy, and his unrelenting charge towards destabilization and mass chaos. Yet for a man like the president, it’s not a question of who you irritate, but whether you’ve done anything to irritate them recently.
Enter the newly revised Bush administration policy on space. Released this month, the Bush policy has claimed its (America’s) right to weaponize the solar system with US arms while stopping all other countries from launching their own weapons systems into orbit. I guess wars on Earth just aren’t enough for this guy.
And what are others saying about this idea?
"America wants it all — life, the universe and everything," proclaimed The Times of London. "Space: no longer the final frontier but the 51st state of the United States"
"U.S. turns space into its colony," echoed a headline in the Asia Times, which
