Elk, Descombes and a pic of my pale ass burned to a crisp
So the first wine I had at Yosemite was at the wonderful Sierra Restaurant at the Tenaya Lodge in Wawona in western Yosemite. As places like this go the wine list was a nightmare wurh every big California name and no vintages to boot! Did not wanna mess with that so I BYO'ed some 2006 Georges Descombes Chiroubles Vieilles Vignes and I am glad I did as this went extremely well with the "local cuisine", elk. Never had elk before but as I have an adventurous palate and was drooling over the deer I kept I wanted to try this semi-exotic meat. Glad I did as it was chewey and steakey but less gamey than venison and this was cooked perfectly and the juices really exploded in your mouth. I was impressed. Wpuld love to see how Chang or Dufresne would prepare elk in an east coast stylee. Onto the De

Heeding the Call of Elk Hunting
By Philippe De Tiege Elk are considered to be one of the largest of quarries for a hunter, making elk hunting a special type of activity. These large animals also have larger than life calls and mating rituals. They can be blatantly aggressive or relatively timid. Those who participate in hunting elk on a regular basis are likely to have quite a story or two of coming in close contact with these majestic creatures. A male elk, or bull, can reach seven to eight hundred pounds easily. Regardless of size, many hunters enjoy the challenge of hunting elk because they are extremely cunning and it takes great skill to get close to them.Successful elk hunting relies on several elements. One of those elements is timing. Many elk hunters plan their hunt in the fall during mating season. The seasoned hunter also understands what time of the day elk are most active and when they are not. They also know how temperatures can affect a hunt. Those who are just beginning their interest in elk hunting w

Elk Grove Real Estate Development for 2,500 New Jobs

The Promenade Mall, an open air mall is set to open October 2008 and provide within the first year of opening 2,500 new jobs for Elk Grove citizens along with a sales tax revenue expected of $4 million. Now, doesn’t that make more sense than building yet more homes? It’s time to bring some jobs into Elk Grove. This is a good start. Next is big business…higher paying jobs. If you want a City to prosper, in my opinion you need to focus on establishing new business partners along with controlled, responsible growth. There are plenty of cities to emulate that have done just that. Possible elk hunt in park

Mark Udall said Friday.Rest of the Story at: Rocky Mountain News DenverMy Comments:I am absolutely in favor of this kind of situation and my only hope is that the park service uses a raffle format to allow hunters from all across the entire country to participate and buy one ticket each! The reality is that if they charged $20.00 each per ticket they could sell out over 100,000 tickets bringing in 2 million dollars for elk habitat, research and managing the hunt. If they allowed everyone to purchase more then one ticket each they could quadruple the results. As well they should donate 1 percent of the tags to conservation organizations to auction off and build revenue for those organizations. I really hope this goes through! I am sure the

All the fruit is estate grown, the estate being 350 acres, 120 of the dedicated to vineyards. They use gravity flow and gentle handling to intervene to a minimum, to let the grape express itself in the wine. The 2006 Willamette Valley Pinot Gris was whole cluster pressed, cold fermented in stainless steel tanks, and did not go through malolactic fermentation. It has a clear, very pale, straw color, with perhaps a hint of green, in the glass. On the nose white, sweet floral with citrus and a touch of tropical fruit. The first impression on the palate is that of medium viscosity and sweet, soft creaminess. When talking about Sequim, one cannot forget to mention the Sequim Elk Herd. Even if you won't see them on your visit to Sequim, you will be made aware that they are around. The Sequim Town Welcome sign says it all...this is the town where the elks (still) live. It's not to everybody's delight. As they are roaming around freely and don't know any boundaries, they are not really that welcome by the farmers or gardeners. Sequim town is growing fast, so the area where they can hang out without interfering with residents' life gets smaller and smaller. For quite some time, there have been talks to relocate the elks to another area. For now, they are still here. The Highway 101 flashing caution lights remind us of their presence and the need for caution on this stretch of highway. Some of the Sequim elk wear transmitting radio collars. Elk Hunting in Virginia
For the last several years this has really bothered me and I have kept my mouth shut about this issue! By all means I believe that each state has the right to make their own choices in regards to game management! That being said as a citizen of the Commonwealth of Virginia, I am entitled to my own private opinion about those decisions that are made! I personally think that this decision stinks! Elk once roamed the mountains of Virginia as a wild and free species and I believe that if we allow the herd to grow it will provide tourism dollars to the counties in the area where the elk are, hunting opportunities when the herd is strong enough to support it, and opportunities for revenue for Virginia to support the management of that herd. We should embrace these animals and allow them continue to grow and develop. If you are a Virginia sportsman or Sportswoman please contact the VDGIF and let them know how you feel and contact your Virginia state representatives as well.Apparently Ot
