Not to be mean but Shannon deserved to be eliminated. Not because she is a terrible dancer but she was not as good as the competition. She definitely made huge improvements since the show started but not enough to remain in the game. I still think Kristy has this in the bag but it will be interesting to see who goes home next week. Seems like everyone is pretty evenly matched at this point, all the teams have their strong points and weak points. Shannon is so pretty but she didn’t move naturally when she danced. It always looked like she was trying really hard and not quite getting it. Maybe Christian and Cheryl will go home next?

May 16th, 2007I thought Melinda look really pretty tonight, and her hair looked amazing. They made sure to advertise the Idol Tour that will take place after the show has ended.
Tonight they showed the video clips of all the contestant’s trip homes. There was, of course a lot of fans awaiting them. There were radio interviews, public performances, streets and days named after them, and a lot of love and support.
I was surprised when they announced that Elliott Yamin would be singing on the show tonight. He was in last season’s top ten, and was always one of my favorites. I thought he sounded really amazing tonight, and I’m glad they had him on the show.
The next performance of the night was by Maroon Five. They sang their newest song, but I must admit I wasn’t as impressed with them as I thought I would be. I still love them, but I actually thought Blake sounded better last night than Adam Levine did tonight.
Everyone was completely shocked when Melinda was sent home. In a
Oh My Gawd!!! Totally unbelievable results. Although I always thought this might happen to whoever who gets to this stage but didn't expect it this season at least not to Melinda.I strongly believe that she will have a great career ahead of her and unlike Jordin or Blake, she doesn’t need to be crowned American Idol to achieve that dream of hers. Tonight might be another classic case of voters feeling too assured for Melinda thus casting less votes in for her.Taking Elliott Yamin as an example who was the guest artist this evening or Chris Daughtry from previous season, the future is still very bright even for not finishing first or second in the competition.As for the finale, I don’t mind who wins it now cause I adore them both for their own uniqueness. I guess it will come down to their performance next week and their fan base. For speculation sake, Jordin might have a slight advantage being most likely the favorite choice for Melinda's legion of fans.

The top four then did their group performance. Melinda, for the first time ever, was off-key in the beginning. It must be that the songs are really difficult to sing, because just like last night, it was a boring performance, and there were a lot of off-key notes.

The elimination of Lakisha was quite expected by many for various reasons but knowing her life struggles and idol journey thus far, I must say I was touched by her in particularly her strength shown during her tribute. That being said, I'm sure all will agree that her final performance was out of this world. If every contestant would only perform like they did in their elimination performance, I'm sure they would have lasted longer which goes the same for Lakisha.As for the final 3, I strongly believe it will be a Melinda vs Jordin final but Blake's legion of fans might just pull a huge upset. I can't wait to view their homecoming videos next week which I'm sure will be very touching once again like previous seasons.

This week saw Phil and Chris being eliminated and I strongly believe it ain't so much about how well they perform this week but more importantly how well they have won fans over in the course of the past 7 weeks. This is where Phil and Chris lacked I believe.I'm sad to see Phil go since he have really found his footing lately although a little too late as I mentioned. I would have preferred Lakisha to go but who can deny her large fan base. What a result show this was! It was finally the end of the road for Sanjaya which has been long overdue purely based on talent cause this kid is a real nice character. Shockingly though Lakisha and Blake find themselves in the bottom 3 which means Phil and Chris is save. That really shows that you've gotta perform well week in and week out which is something very lacking in Lakisha I must say.As for this week's mentor Martina McBride, the song she sang was so beautiful and meaningful especially in a time like this. The 2 parts where she dedicated to the contestants was so moving and I do not think any other mentor really connect themselves to the contestants as much as Martina did this week.If J.Lopez oozes confidence and charisma last week, Martina touched everyone’s heart with her strong and compassionate soul. This one is a keeper for sure for seasons to come.
Another week and another one bites the dust and this time is as I predicted was the final week for the sweet Haley. In fact the bottom 3 was quite expected as well and I can already see Phil's journey coming to an end next week too.All said and done, the main winner for me this week was none other than Jennifer Lopez. She did such a tremendous job not only mentoring the contestants but more importantly portraying herself so well with her casual charms and assured confidence to the American public. The song she performed on the show might not be as catchy as her previous work but boy did she sell it well. I'll bet my last dollar that her Spanish album sales will soar after this appearance on American Idol. Don't agree with me? Well just watch this clip then:

End of the road for Gina which is quite sad as she does add a unique flavor to this season. Nevertheless Phil saved himself with his moving dedication to his wife and Haley's truly sexy legs appeal.All said and done as I predicted, Sanjaya will definitely make it to the Top 6 and perhaps even beyond. I can understand why some contestants feel frustrated by this situation as it is toying with their career and hard work.
Well well well... it seem the 'Vote for the Worst' campaign is still going strong with no sign of going away. By taking Sanjaya out of the picture and looking at this week's bottom 3, I would say America got it right with them being the weakest last week.For the following weeks, I guess Phil, Chris R. and Haley would have to watch out and raise their game. Also I presume Sanjaya would make it to the Top 6 with the momentum he is going. Oh well... we shall see!But for now, here's to the one they call chubby and I hope his passion for music, composing and singing continue to drive him forward.
