Don't forget: Tuesday is school board election day — and tax day
Just a reminder that Tuesday is school board election day in New Jersey in communities where there are elected school boards. That means locally, residents in East Newark and Harrison won't be going to the polls. Residents in Jersey City, Kearny, Nutley, North Arlington, Bloomfield, Lyndhurst and Belleville will go to the polls, which are open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.Turnout at school board elections is usually small, but this is the one opportunity residents have a direct say about a budget. In Kearny, reports say there won't be an increase in taxes if the budget passes. We'll have results from some of the local elections tomorrow as they flow in. And don't forget the two candidates we highlighted yesterday: Steve Rogers in Nutley and Debbie Wertalik in North Arlington. Also, don't forget today

It’s Election Day in Wisconsin - Watch Closely
Not only is today April Fool’s day, but it is also Election Day in Wisconsin for a variety of state-seats, but there is one race in particular that has drawn national attention and become quite ugly. The race drawing so much attention is for an open seat on the State Supreme Court, which in Wisconsin is [...]

It’s Election Day! Liveblogging To Come…
After driving all around the county putting up signs last night, and then rushing off to be a relief election judge in another precinct, we at Capitol Annex are…exhausted! However, we will be liveblogging the results tonight. Please keep in mind, however, we won’t be able to do that until we complete our “Texas Two Step” and go to our caucus tonight. I wonder, in fact, how many “liveblogging” efforts that would normally start at 7 p.m. on election night are being thwarted by the precinct conventions tonight? I know mine is….

      Election Day...
Today is Election Day in Denmark and even though this is not a political blog, I really urge everyone to cast their vote. I honestly don't care what party you vote for, as long as you remember to vote and thus show your appreciation for our democratic rights. There are still far too many countries in the world where people are not allowed to vote or where the outcome of the election has already been "fixed". So even if you are tired of politicians and think they are all crashing bores (thank you Morrissey), things could easily be a whole lot worse! So please support our democracy and waste 5 of your precious minutes today, to go to the polling station! Before you leave I suggest that you download this wonderful cover version of an old The Jesus and Mary Chain track by The Mary Onettes...wait...it's not a cover you say? Are you sure? Oh well! It's still very nice!+ Explosions

      Recaping ‘07 Election Day Storm
(Snow Downtown Erie, Nov. 6th 2007 - Trisha Neudorff) The snow began to fall early Tuesday morning and it was a heavy, wet dense snow. Combine that with the fact that most of the trees still had their leaves and we had very strong gusty winds of 30 to 40 mph. All this together put excessive weight and stress on trees and power lines which caused trees and limbs to break and power lines to snap and come down. This left 15,000 homes and business with out power at the peak of the snow event. As of Wednesday evening there are still people without power across the region and crews are continuing to work to get the lights and heat back on. The total for this snow event was 3.5″ out at the Erie International Airport. Downtown Erie where I live there was 2.5″ at its peak. You go out to Wattsburg and French Creek, NY there was a foot of snow. Summit Twp, in Erie County, had 11″; Edinboro around 4″ and Meadville with 2″. The winds are expected to become more southe

Election Day in the Garden State
Another local election day has come and gone here in New Jersey and once again I dutifully voted for the local political candidates that are the most qualified, the most experienced and best suited to take bribes and embezzle money on behalf of taxpayers everywhere. My wife, being a native of New Jersey, didn’t [...]

      Gratitude on Election Day
As indcated by a couple of my past articles, namely, With Friends Like These... and Think We've Got It Bad Here?, I am profoundly glad to be an American. As such, I went with great excitement to the polls this morning to cast my votes for open offices here in the great Commonwealth of Kentucky. I am struck by the contrast; people being bodily beaten and worse for protesting the state of their government on the one hand, and myself and a couple dozen others casting our votes quietly, even cheerfully.Hell, the only awkward moment I experienced at all was noticing that one of the cars in the polling place's lot bore a Bush sticker. This is not to imply that we don't have substantial problems with our country (I wasn't brainwashed after all), we do. In a way, one could posit that the strain of cancer eating away at our cherished liberties is even more deadly than that which has been attacking Pakistan for so long. This is because the disease that eats at the fabric of our democrac

Remember last week when I mentioned the election and how it is your civic duty to vote? Well that still stands. Get out the taco vote! today is the day! make history!hah! You are so lazy. You are still reading. Why don't you vote? You have a chance to change your government. Okay fine, keep reading.According to Zuma Dogg at Mayor Sam's Sister City blog our candidate Juan "Johnny Jay" Jimenez is on the rise. Was it the power of the taco community or just a coincidence?I say never underestimate the power of the taco.El CapitanSo I went back to the taco mecca to get the pulse of the electorate. My first stop was El Capitan a taco truck that parks on the lot of the El Capitan Taqueria. The actual taqueria looked to be closed or was possibly just used for storage. Or who knows maybe there were some shady poker games going on inside. al pastor and carne asadaThe tacos were 2 for $1 and burritos were only $2 . Election Day 2006
Last night I was glued to NBC news on the television and CNN.com on the desktop. I was exhausted and upset with the counts. I went to bed pretty disappointed because Talent was ahead in the polls over McCaskill and Proposition 2 was behind with NOs in the lead. On the bright side of things, the legislation for raising minimum wage was in the lead and favored to pass. After I woke up this morning, JT encoraged me to check out the election results. After what I saw on the news last night, I was hesistant to look at any final results. I went to Opera, opened CNN.com, scrolled to the U.S. Senate and Missouri election results and I was ecstatic. With results pouring in from St. Louis City, County and other areas, McCaskill took the lead over Talent and was declared the winner. Also, Propostion 2 was passed… which is something that I wanted, but also a surprise after I saw the figures before bedtime. I pray that stem cell research will lead to finding a cure for my son and all ot

      On Election Day
Greetings All.Election Day. I am idealistically hopeful because I refuse to give that up. If I give that to the powers at war around me then they have defeated me. I will not be defeated. I will also not fail to see the reality we find ourselves in. This is what "Give me liberty or give me death" means to me. It means I will not surrender to anyone else's opinion of how I should conduct my life, express my liberty and pursue my happiness. Not the religious right. Not to any terrorist of any variety. Not to fear. Tomorrow we shall see just how far we are willing to be pushed. Before we break. Until tomorrow it is all about hope. May we not wait to find ourselves fully awakened behind impenetrable bars, bars of steel forged in ideology that we cannot accept, weeping for our lost freedom with nothing but our regret to keep us company. Bless all those who have worked so hard for the dream of America. May we forgive those who spend fortunes seek

      Election Day Surprise in Indiana
Election Day Surprise Libertarian candidates magically reappear on ballot after targeted law kicked them offIndianapolis, IN - Nov 07, 2006 LPIN Supporters: This is an urgent message that we need your help on! After knocking 11 of our candidates off the ballot months ago on a technicality in new law targeted at Libertarians, some are magically reappearing on the ballot today! You may say "That's great!" but without an opportunity to campaign this ploy is aimed at diminishing our presence in the public eye. Do not let the R's and D's play this game - please report any inconsistencies on your ballots immediately. Pass this along to friends and talk to every media outlet you can. We are only 5 hours into election day and the problems are rampant. Electronic machines are failing, the ballots are not correct, even former Executive Director Brad Klopfenstein was disenfranchised at the polls this morning. People are listening, it has already been picked up by the Muncie Free Press: http://

      Election Day
Today is election day...so go vote. Unless you are conservative, and would be voting in a close race. Then you shouldn't vote! :) Midterm elections are notorious for low voter turnout, but this election is important and could change the direction of this country. The people of this country have an opportunity to create change through the ballot box. It only takes a half hour. Are you willing? I don't like the Democratic Party. But I still like them more than the Republican Party. And I would LOVE to see both the Senate and the House be under Democratic leadership. And this is very possible. Help make it happen.

      Election Day "06
Election day is just around the corner and once again the American People have the awesome ability to decide who they want to represent them (unless you are a minority, then your ability could be slightly hindered). The big question this year is, “Will the self-proclaimed Party of Inclusion continue to hold both the Senate and House?” See here is the thing about the party of inclusion, apparently they ‘include’ young men, and then cover up said ‘inclusion’. Granted, it was only textual correspondence and not a physical ‘Clintonian’ error, but it was of the homosexual nature, so by the Right’s judgement that should be worse. If there had been a marriage proposal from the congressman, Democrats would have taken over both the House and Senate. So I will end the rant with this. We live in the best country in the world. (’Best’ as defined, by the American definition of ‘best’). Our country is so awesome we can

      Election Day in the USA
It is just after midnight in the US and 9:25 AM here in Amsterdam. I am awake and having had breakfast my thoughts have turned to Election Day. I am full of anticipation for a Democratic victory today, but I am not holding my breath. The current mood seems to be voter dissatisfaction with the Republican control of all branches of the government. Hopefully, with a large voter turnout, we can gain the House and maybe even the Senate. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Finally, I wanted to share an e-mail I received from Democrats Abroad/Netherlands:Election Night/late Nite Gathering:Tuesday, 7 NovemberMolly Malone's, Oudezijdes Kolk 9, Amsterdam, a short walk from Central Station.Malone's has a pub quiz on Tuesdays, so come at 8PM if you want to participate in that event. Kentucky Moving to Allow Liquor Sales on Election Day
The Kentucky State Legislature is considering a bill that would signal last call for a decades old prohibition on election day liquor sales.State Rep. Arnold Simpson's reform bill to allow liquor sales starting at noon on election day passed through committee this week and was sent to the full Kentucky House of representatives for a vote. Kentucky, the home of Bourbon, has banned liquor sales in bars and retail stores during voting since the repeal of Prohibition.
