As Barack Obama has earned the Democratic nomination, we have to ask the question: Will America vote for a black president?
It is a question that should never have to be asked, but sadly it is a question that must now be examined.
I hope that the answer is yes.

Clinton bows out and delivers promise to strongly back, and to throw ‘full support’ to Barack Obama.

Hillary is supposed to endorse Obama at the National Building Museum in DC–actually, she was supposed to do this 45 minutes ago and is just getting started now. If I'm Obama, I don't love the buildup for and focus on Hillary, but it may be worth it if she does finally endorse Obama and urge her supporters to get behind his campaign. As soon as she starts, I'll summarize what she says on

In an astoundingly ignorant interview with The Politico’s Mike Allen Tuesday, President Bush insinuated that electing a Democrat in November would lead to another attack on America, and revealed that he made the ultimate sacrifice by giving up golf shortly after the start of the Iraq War — the timing of which he lied about. Keith Olbermann picked up on the interview and said what most of Ameri
From: The deciders you don't elect Call them the superclass. Americans fixated on the political campaign may be missing a reality of the global era that may matter much more than their presidential choice: On an ever-growing list of issues, the big decisions are being made or profoundly influenced by a little-understood international network of business, financial, government, cultural and military leaders who are beyond the reach of American voters. In addition to top officials, these people include corporate executives, leading investors, top bankers, media moguls, heads of state, generals, religious leaders, heads of terrorist and criminal organizations and a handful of important cultural and scientific figures. From Scoop : The US Supreme Court has just dealt a serious blow to voters' rights that could help put John McCain in the White House by eliminating tens of thousands of voters who generally vote Democratic. By 6-3 the Court has upheld an Indiana law that requires citizens to present a photo identification card in order to vote. Florida, Michigan, Louisiana, Georgia, Hawaii and South Dakota have similar laws. Though it's unlikely, as many as two dozen other states could add them by election day. Other states, like Ohio, have less stringent ID requirements than Indiana's, but still have certain restrictions that are strongly opposed by voter rights advocates. The decision turns back two centuries of jurisprudence that has accepted a registered voter's signature as sufficient iden
ULTIMATE Force hard man Ross Kemp is weighing into a parish council election in a bid to send the BNP packing. The actor, who also starred as Grant Mitchell in Eastenders, has written to voters in Frankley urging them to reject the far right party in next Thursday's election. It is the first time since the Frankley Parish Council was launched eight years ago that a political party has stood for election - the current crop of 12 councillors are all local independents. They now fear that the BNP's move could spell the end for Birmingham's only parish council. Now, in a letter to residents, Ross Kemp said: "I hope you'll be voting for the 12 local Frankley candidates on May 1. "The BNP have three candidates. I think there is nothing more dangerous in areas like yours than racism a

By Robert GillisPublished in the Foxboro Reporter 4/2008I’ve known Bob Hickey for 15 years, both as member of the Foxboro Jaycees and also as a friend. When he was president of the chapter, I was struck by his attention to detail, his command of seemingly every area of governing our organization, and his good nature and sense of humor, both which served him well to keep things running smoothly and to resolve problems. His enthusiasm at Jaycee events was contagious. In his role as Selectman these six years, Bob has brought his obvious love for Foxboro to Town Hall and has compiled an exceptionally impressive resume of accomplishment. If you observe him at town meeting, you will see he is often the facilitator, the peacemaker, the voice of reason. His no-nonsense, common-sense approach

The principal of my Catholic High School had this old, yellowed picture of John Kennedy hanging in a prominent place in her office. Until I got older I didn't get it. I guess it is hard for a kid to appreciate the transcendental shift in the universe that occurred when the country selected the son of an Irish Bootlegger, as the Leader of the Free World. There has not been a Catholic president since then, and I wonder if it makes a difference these days. I have never personally experienced any discrimination on account of my religion. While there may be a bit of prejudice in some circles, I don't really think there is any overt discrimination against Catholic laypersons, except maybe in the most Klanish corners of the Old South. Of course, the priesthood has their own problem, and it is as much with Catholics, as it is with every other person who is not a NAMBA supporter. But, I am wondering if a Catholic candidate can count on getting most of the Catholic vote, simply on accoun

Florida soon could find itself in an even smaller minority in the world of selecting superintendents.
The state of Mississippi now is looking into doing away with the election of school district chiefs as part of its Quality Education Act of 2008, the Hattiesburg American reports. The goal, it seems, would be to remove politics from education as much as possible.
That would leave Florida and Alabama as the lone holdouts that allow politician superintendents instead of appointed CEOs heading their school districts.
Of course, Florida lets county voters determine whether they want to give up their right to choose the superintendent. Most of the biggest ones have done so. But the majority of districts, with the biggest being Pasco County, have rejected the idea.
Lake County voters recently made the switch: Their board is conducting a search now. Marion County voters are the next in line to decide what to do about the elected superintendent's job. But if history serves as a guide, th

Frontman of Armenian-American metal agitators System of a Down, Serj Tankian has released his first solo effort and uses the musical forum to promote his political ideology. And, like many other great artists both past and present, what makes it work is the aesthetic is not ignored for the sake of shock value. Tankian comes across as an improbable hybrid of Frank Zappa, Jello Biafra, Sepultura’s Max Cavalera, a Balkan protest singer and someone on a street corner with a megaphone and a placard announcing the end times. At its most urgent, on “Empty Walls” or “The Unthinking Majority”, ‘Elect the Dead’ resembles a demented heavy-metal musical about the last days of the American empire. There are a several other tracks that deserve attention as well, including “Saving Us”, “Lie Lie Lie”, and what may be the gem of the album, “Money”. And while there is never a dull moment, it is safe to say this solo project sh
Can Governor-elect Steve Beshear shake the Kentucky Board of Education loose from their plans to name a new Kentucky Education Commissioner next week?Previously the board has shown a remarkable ability to hunker down and fend off good advice in favor of ... well ...whatever will get them past the Barbara Erwin mess. While Joe Brothers has adopted a more open and conciliatory tone, the move to search for a new commissioner this fall was ill-advised from the start and said more about the painful past than it did a brighter future. When Al Smith and the Courier-Journal renewed their call for Ernie Fletcher to change course, and restart the commissioner's search, yet again, in the spring, it did not appear likely that Fletcher would suddenly become more responsive than he has been in the past. Now, there may be light on the horizon. This from Antoinette Konz at the Courier-Journal:Less than a week before the Kentucky Board of Education plans to appoint a new education commissioner, Gov.-elec
The way things are going, I think we just might give him the opportunity to run for President.Remember how he initially became California's governor? The former guy wasn't doing so well. And everybody wanted someone new.Well, our current President doesn't seem to be doing so well. And I get the feeling that even while we want someone new, it's not necessarily anyone who's running right now.If Schwarzenegger ran for President, would you vote for him? I think I might...
"If we are not careful and you don't elect me, this country will be to the left of France."- Rudy Giuliani Once again reminding us that it would be irresoponsible and careless to not vote for this slimeball.Ok, first off, perhaps Rudy doesn't realize France is the most right-wing country in Western Europe. Granted it's to the left of us, but if he's concerned about big government, perhaps he should take a gander at places like Sweden, Norway or Germany, where government is big, and hey, it works. And frankly if I had a choice of living under President Giuliani or in Paris, well Au revoir !
Voting is a method and process of decision making where a group like an electorate or a meeting takes a survey of opinion in order to decide on various issues of debate. Alternatives to voting include consensus decision making and betting. Consensus decision making is often used in situations where an extreme polarity is expected and there is a wish to avoid such a split decision. A ballot or vote is a person’s or individual’s act of voting. He or she expresses preference or support to elect a particular candidate, motion or a collection of potential candidates. The most well known variation being that of using voting to elect public officials and representatives. In a democratic nation, voting commonly implies election which is a way for an electorate to select among candidates for office. In United States politics election voting is the process by which the electorate of a democratic nation appoints new representation in its government.Interestingly, there are countries that have

Sounds like a more simplified version of System of a Down and a little more Alternative than Metal to me. From what I can hear, Tankian's project is also very political and sociological like SOAD.

I'd say no.I've never actually seen the Robin Williams film in which he's the President of the United States, and leads the country using wit and satire. I did read the IMDB plot summary of the film, and according to that, his victory owed itself to a voting systems glitch. In spite of the fact that even in the movie he was not truly chosen to lead our country, I think it's important to understand some of the reasons why a candidate with a similar outlook on reality would probably not do very well in the polls, given our current political climate. As long as I can remember, there's been the need to be able to take our leaders seriously. Only when you have absolute faith in a leader can you allow him or her the freedom to laugh at things, but even then, laughter is usually kept to a minimum. In a system far from perfect, time is better spent on coming up with solutions than coming up with jokes.Sure, pointing out something that is funny because it is flawed makes us feel better. Sur

Isn't this the classic liberal attitude? Unless we (liberals) save black men, they'll just die off. In other words, unlike every other population in the world, black people need white liberals to teach them how to avoid extinction. What do you have that blacks need to survive? Some kind of vaccine? No, he's going to say "we can't build enough prisons" and black criminals will what? Stop committing crime? What do we do with criminals? Won't black people who don't commit crime be upset with having so many criminals walking around?
U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stopped by Arizona to appear with two of Arizona’s congressmen and tour the Veterans Medical Center. While she was in town, she also expressed her support for freshman Congressman Harry Mitchell who will likely face a spirited re-election campaign next fall. Pelosi’s message was loud and clear:“If you don’t promise to re-elect Harry Mitchell, I am going to keep coming back,” assured Speaker Pelosi, “And coming and coming and coming. Look, I like Harry Mitchell. He does what I say and he is a charming dancer. If you don’t get your act together, you are going to see me around here all the time.”Initially, the Speaker’s visit was a mystery to some who believe that her San Francisco popularity does not translate well in Arizona, but it appears that she has found a way to use this issue to her advantage.“Oh God, No!” exclaimed Susie Snider, a moderate, Republican soccer mom, “It’s like I am being forced to vote for Mitchell again. They are making this all too complex. As far as the mixed feelings for Hillary Clinton, even amongst the most die hard Democrats, it's simple: people do not trust Hillary Clinton. How many times has she been caught in lies? Many of her supporters will ignore this "foible" of hers but I think it does not sit well with most Americans. Even those that would normally be prime candidates to support her shy away from doing so. I read liberal blogs and discussion forums every day and the majority do not want Hillary to run. The reason they give is that they find her too "divisive". I think thats a code word for "people can't stand her". And yes I will admit I am on the side of 'can't stand her'. There are a lot of people, like myself, that would love to see Hillary win the Democratic primary. A Clinton candidacy would almost certainly guarantee another 8 years of conservative control of the White House. And make no mistake about it she will run no matte

In case you don’t know, New York is a closed primary state.
Libertarians and Constitutionalists need to jump ship.
If you are a Libertarian or Constitutionalist and you live in a state that has closed primaries you need to join (if only temporarily) the Republican Party so you can vote for Ron Paul. He was, after all, the 1988 Libertarian Party nominee for the Presidency and he is now reaching for it again, this time with the possible support of a "major" party and a greater chance. The primaries are going to be the biggest hurdle for his campaign and he needs your support now more than ever, especially since he will be up against the likes of John McCain and Rudy Giuliani.
If he does make it through the primaries, he will easily be elected as the next President of the United States. With the backing of Libertarians, Constitutionalists and Republicans there will be no way for the Democratic nominee to come out on top.
So here is the trick: Swallow your pride and join
Jackie Ashley, writing in The Guardian, quotes a comment by Gordon Brown, who seems to have been sitting next to Rupert Murdoch at Davos:
“A few years ago the debate was about whether the media controlled politicians or whether politicians controlled the media. Now it is about how we are all responding to the explosive power of citizens, consumers and bloggers. The new focus on the environment is the result of that. The Make Poverty History campaign was the result of that. Citizens are flexing their muscles,” he said.
She goes on to say that the news and comment which comes from the internet and blogging is biased towards particular groups and lines of thought. This is, of course, true, but that does not make it different from the other media on which we have traditionally relied in the past for our information.
Make Poverty History was an alliance which brilliantly used the internet. But even it depended on the old-style glamour of rock stars, the old-fashioned force of ma
It's still a week or so early for pantomime farce but Crewe Alexandra started the silly season with aplomb today. League One leaders Nottingham Forest rolled into town and took us apart, simple as that. For me, there were no positives whatsoever. The afternoon started badly as I juggled two pies, a hot dog and cup of coffee down the steep steps of the main stand. One of the pies didn't make it. Guess what, being a fairly decent dad I made sure that my two lads were fed with footy fodder and yours truly made his way to the cheap seats with a rumbling belly. And then things got worse. The referee blew his whistle to start the embarrassment that was 90 minutes of second-rate football from a mixed bag of inexperienced, elderly, inept and want-away Alex players. Sadly, our current side is such a shambolic combo that I can quite easily see us reaching the New Year with no further points on the board. Yes, it's that bad. One of the "I'm not signing a new deal" brigade, Jon Otsemobor (pict
Welcome to Rhea County, Tennessee! Home of...well, I have no idea actually. At least it's not home to any illegal homosexual activity. Fortunately they rescinded that one. That's right, the county commission of Rhea County, Tennessee unanimously supported a proposal that criminalized homosexuality as a crime against nature in Tennessee. That's not just a ban on gay marriage, it's a ban on gays, period. Nothing says progress like throwing people in jail for being gay. I imagine slavery and debtors prison were probably also on the list as well.As frightening as this is to even consider, there are several pieces of good news associated with it.First, the legislation was rescinded two days after it was proposed - supposedly because the county commissioners didn't understand that they were voting to ban homosexuality. Talk about lesser of two evils - either you're Nazis or idiots - neither option would inspire any confidence in an elected official. The second bit of good news is
