Immovable Elbow Theory of Wing Chun Gung Fu & Jeet Kune Do
It is important that when assuming the Bi-Jong/JKD-Stance that the elbow of your lead arm remain immovable. With your elbow in a fixed position approximately three inches in front of your body in this bareknuckle boxing (long-bridge) distance, you’ll note that your hand and forearm are free to move in any direction. If you envision a rectangle that has been stood on it’s end, with it’s botto

Tennis Elbow: Diagnosis, Treatment, And Prevention
Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, is a common elbow injury of racket sport players and manual laborers. Tennis elbow is an overuse injury resulting from the performance of repetitive motions with the hand and forearm, such as swinging a tennis racket or a hammer. Such repetitive motions can cause inflammation of the muscles of the forearm. The symptoms of tennis elbow include pain, soreness, and weakness in the muscles on the outside of the forearm. The treatment of tennis elbow is usually conservative, relying on rest, ice, and anti-inflammatory medication. When attempting to diagnosis tennis elbow, a doctor or physical therapist will test for tenderness on or near the bony knob of the elbow joint. Pain that increases when bending the wrist back is also indicative of tennis elbow. T

Oh no, I internally screamed, had Guy Garvey’s band of Mancs lost the plot and would ‘The Seldom Heard Kid’ be their assault on the Chris Martin adoring masses. I needn’t have worried because Elbow’s newbie is nothing of the sort. The album may be easier on the ear (in that it doesn’t take a dozen listens to make sense) than previous efforts but Elbow have lost none of their sense of epic mournfulness. Tennis Elbow Affects Millions But It Can Be Beaten
Tennis is a physical sport. Running, jumping, swinging, and sometimes diving on the hard court; like any sport, there are many ways that tennis players can incur an injury. However, there is one injury that is so prevalent among tennis players the injury itself has the word tennis in the name; that injury, of course, is tennis elbow. While tennis elbow, known medically as lateral epicondylitis, is not limited to tennis players, it is estimated that one third of all tennis players will experience the condition at some point in their lives. Anyone who engages in lifting at the elbow, or repetitive movements of the elbow and wrist, is likely to be susceptible to this condition, so naturally tennis players are at high risk. The cause of pain from this condition is not a medical certainty, al

      Do You Have Tennis Elbow?
You keep feeling pain in your elbow and can not figure out why. You are in great physical condition and play tennis every weekend with friends when the weather is nice. You have even joined a tennis club to have access to better inside courts. Now, you are in pain and do not know why. What is even more important to you is that you can not play tennis without the pain becoming more severe. It is time to see the doctor and hopefully get a pill to get better. Unfortunately, after extensive testing, the doctor tells you that you have tennis elbow-something you thought was just a joke or an excuse for not playing the game well. Okay, so what is going on in your elbow? Tennis elbow occurs when tiny tears occur in a certain part of the tendon and in the muscle coverings. Even after letting everyt

When should I do it? How long is the rehabilitation for my tennis elbow going to take? The answer to the last question is - As long as it takes!! The first thing to remember is that Tennis Elbow becomes a chronic problem if it isn't looked after properly. In terms of tennis elbow rehabilitation, there is one absolute rule. You must do nothing until you are experiencing little or no pain, and then the rehabilitation process, and exercises can only proceed providing you have no pain in whatever exercise you are doing. Before you can start playing tennis properly again you must have restored full strength and mobility to

Pawan Kalyan Has Sachin Tendulkar's Tennis Elbow!!!
PAWAN KALYAN has been creating a lot of sensations off-late for all the wrong reasons and other than CINEMA. But the latest revelation has been that the strapping band that he is sporting now-a-days on his right elbow is a TENNIS ELBOW!!! I think many of you would remember SACHIN TENDULKAR had a similar one and was in news for some time. So, how did PAWAN got this Tennis Elbow? Well, according to a popular website Telugulo.com, Pawan used to do farming activities in his free time at his farmhouse in Sankarpalli. According to them, while doing so... he must have used his right hand for plucking out the weeds to the extent that it gave him TENNIS ELBOW. And so following his doctor's advise, he is wearing a strapping. How ridiculous is that? I am not a medical expert, but heard that SACHIN got it because of his illustrious but punishing career. I wonder what must be the real reason behind this TENNIS ELBOW?

The beautiful women always take care of all body parts including elbows. A twisted, dark and dirty elbow is no match to an otherwise beauiful woman. Simple natural care to elbows would make tham attractive. Elbows are part of your long arms and that part of the body remains unattrative so long elbows are not cared. Elbows usually keep dirts within their layers of skin. It looks odd, if not cleaned. Elbow skin is soft because for this we can move our arms. Because of its softness and layers of skin dirts are stored their unknowingly. Since we cananot see our elebow as we see our hands because of its position, they are often neglected unknowingly. In tropical region, where heavy sweating occures, elbows are first to catch dirt. Elbows are also used for hand rest. Tke care that you do not place your elbows without checking the place. Striking Point for Empi Uchi (Elbow Strike)
Although many martial artists know the correct point of striking for empi, there are still lots that think its best to strike with the tip of the elbow. Ask any Mauy Thai fighter, and they will say that the correct striking point is on the forearm, within two inches from the tip of the elbow. When the elbow is swung into the target either in a hook or uppercut fashion, this is the best part to strike with. If a spinning elbow strike is performed then the striking surface would be again two inches from the point, but on the upper arm tricep side. Although called an elbow strike, it is not the exact point of the elbow which is used for these strikes. The only time when it may be practical to use the point, is when delivering downward elbow strikes to a low target, back elbow strikes to a target behind and side elbow strikes. This is because the technique is not delivered in a circular motion as the other but in a straight line motion.

A combination of diet and shiatsu effectively deals with these common problems. If an injury has occurred, shiatsu can inhibit swelling. It can also reduce the pain.In the case of arthritis, the macrobiotic diet is the key in alleviating the symptoms. Extremes of food aggravate arthritic symptoms. Beef, eggs and other animal foods, fruits, fruit juice (especially tropical varieties), spices, stimulant and aromatic herbs, soft drinks, sugar, honey, chocolate, vinegar, and especially the entire nightshade family (tomato, potato, eggplant, bell pepper, and tobacco) have been linked with increased arthritic pain. I'm a gardner, I like to read alot...this gaming thing isn't in my DNA...but I do enjoy a new one/experience periodically. This was fun. I even thought my Mii, looked, well, like me. Anyway, we all bowled, but our friends four-year-old wanted to play me in baseball. I figured it out - but I couldn't get the ball out of the infield. Jannine said: "It's all in the wrist." Right. I had to jump around, flail as I pitched and attempted to hit. So did the little boy I was playing and he was having fun flailing....I was flailing because I was failing. Man, he was good. He took me yard, he punch-and-judyed the ball all over the place. He only beat me 1 to nothing. Once he stops being just 4 and gets the taste for blood... he'll kill me. We then played tennis. He was friggin Federer. I was, well, a fat guy from the suburbs playing Roger

Second its my birthday on Thursday and it’s always good to spend it at home. Better chance for presents and general pampering! The most important reason for going back however is for the wedding of two friends. But its just not any wedding, it’s an Irish wedding! The couple went to Uni with me and we ended up doing PhDs at the same department in Dundee. Our class in Uni was about thirty people in total and I’ve kept in touch with maybe ten to fifteen of them, some of whom will be at “the do”. We were lucky to all click and get on together. So its a mini reunion of sorts as well. Also, they’re having the wedding at the campus church so I suspect a few people from the old department will be down as well. A real blast from the past. Tennis Elbow or Acute Wiiitis???
For all of you PTs out there treating a patient with an insidious onset of tennis elbow, you may want to ask your patient one question...do they own a Nintendo Wii?In the June 2007 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, Dr. Julio Bonis wrote an editorial explaining a case of "Acute Wiitis." In the editorial, Dr. Bonis reports of a 29-year-old medical resident who woke one morning with severe right shoulder pain. The patient had no history of recent injury or physical activity; however, upon inspection, had positive tests consistent with acute infraspinatus tendonitis. After thorougly scrutinizing all of his activities over the past day, the patient remembered that he was playing a tennis video game on his new Nintendo Wii for several hours. "The final diagnosis for the isolated right shoulder pain was Nintendinitis. However, the variant in this patient can be labeled more specifically as 'Wiiitis'."For those who are not familiar with the new Nintendo Wii, it is an interactive

We have NO money in our registers to give them, but they want us to give them money anyway. So I ended up owing the safe $140 and couldn’t go home until I got it. Luckily I was able to go back to my job scrubbing glitter and glue and glitter glue off of shelves while Elise ran on my register to get me the cash I needed. Much love for Elise!!! Carpenter to miss start due to elbow inflammation
Chris Carpenter will miss a turn in the St. Louis Cardinals' pitching rotation due to right elbow inflammation, though the team thinks its ace won't be out long. Carpenter complained of soreness Monday, the day after he struggled in the season opener against the New York Mets. An examination by team physician Dr. George Paletta on Tuesday did not include an MRI, and Carpenter said he thought his elbow already had improved. "I'm not a doctor, but I feel it's a little bit better," Carpenter said. The Cardinals said Carpenter will be evaluated over the next three days. Carpenter allowed five runs in six innings during a 6-1 loss to the Mets on Sunday night. He has been the staff ace the last three seasons after missing most of the 2002 season and all of 2003 following shoulder surgery. Carpenter was an All-Star in each of the last two seasons, going 15-8 last year after winning the NL Cy Young Award with a 21-5 record in 2005. Source: AP

      Idong Ibok's Elbow Needs A Band-Aid
Man, what's with all the freak injuries lately? Shaun Livingston tears everything in his knee and looks like an effin' puppet. Brian Butch dislocates his elbow and gets girls swooning with his flexibility. Now Michigan State's Idong Ibok's injury in Thursday's win over Marquette. The video isn't great, but you can see a visible dent in his elbow. Don't think that's supposed to be there.

Businesses Cannot Tell RSS From Elbow
Businesses like to pretend that the world of capitalism is a jungle, where only the strong can make it against all the odds. It’s all dog eat dog and survival of the fittest on the mean streets of the global corporate world. Except the jungle is the garden of paradise, where the effete inheritors of wealth slumber and gamble other people’s money. Rather than dog eat dog, it is more “the dog ate my homework” and the fittest are rarely fit for purpose and all the corporate streets are paved with gold. The idea that this is all a hard life is a myth to stop the poor from rioting. You would think that if life was hard at the cutting edge of money-making, there would be some signs of putting in extra effort to keep topping up the coffers. The use of RSS feeds is hardly something new and arcane and it can cost literally zero to start producing feeds which can publicise your business and what it has to offer around the globe in real time, constantly. Thus, it seems su

Ulnar Collateral Ligamant Reconstruction of the Elbow in Throwers
A recent article featured in the American Journal of Sports Medicine looked at the results of a modified technique to reconstruct the Ulnar Collateral Ligament of the elbow in throwers. The study looked at 100 throwers who underwent a docking technique for reconstruction of the medical elbow ligament, with a mean follow-up of 36 months.Traditionally, athletes have undergone the Tommy John surgery or Jobe surgery, in which a tendon from the individual's forearm is grafted into the elbow. This docking technique, was modified from the Jobe procedure where a muscle-splitting approach is used through the posterior one third of the common flexor pronator mass. The muscles are not detached and thus the ulnar nerve is untouched, minimizing the risk for post-operative ulnar nerve symptoms.Postoperatively, the arm was maintained in a plaster splint for 1 week, then the elbow was placed in a hinged brace. Initially, motion was allowed from 30° of extension to 90° of flexion, then advanced

      Power to Your Elbow !
Or to be more precise power to your Voice over IP products. Many companies these days will routinely protect their data servers from power failures or fluctuations with a UPS (Uninteruptable Power Supply) but may neglect their voice products. Most of the new generation IP PBX systems are server based so it is relatively easy to protect them with a UPS but make sure that if possible you use the shutdown software supplied with the UPS product, usually this is via a USB connection or if several servers are fed from one UPS then this will be done across a network (LAN). The software will perform an orderly closedown on the operating system to avoid dammage to the hard disk or file system once the batteries in the UPS are close to flat. The newest VoIP server products usually use a Linux Operating System due to the inherent stability and reliability it offers, however only a few UPS systems currently offer their own Linux based shutdown software. We have successfully utilised PowerWare LAN

Elbow Room, Elbow Room, Gotta Gotta Get Us Some Elbow Room.
No we haven’t gone all Schoolhouse Rock on you, but it’s interesting that this cartoon from the 70’s was singing about the Western Expansion of the United States to get us some elbow room because our population was growing. Well, it looks like we might have to start jumping into the Pacific Ocean, because as of 7:46 am this morning, The United States has just passed the 300 million person population point.  Now only China and India have more citizens than the U.S. The consequences of this are many.  Certainly increasing population means increased need for housing, jobs, food, education, healthcare etc.  On top of that it creates more pollution, greater strain on natural resources and the environment. Along with all this is a change in demographics.  While that is not necessarily a negative consequence, it does create more racial and ethnic strain.  Look no further than all the fuss over immigration and citizenship, as well as the ongoing debates about language an

      Picasso Given the Elbow!
Yeah, but how?Hi all,News that Las Vegas Magnate Steve Wynn somehow managed to put his elbow through one of his Picasso's (The Dream 1932, pictured above being sold at Christies in 1997 for £24.7m) has left me a tad baffled? According to ambiguous reports this major 'mishap' happened whilst Mr Wynn was showing his multi squillion dollar painting off to guests. Most unfortunate. My question though is how exactly do you do something like that? Whenever I touch one of my own canvas's (which sell for a hefty bit less than £24m!) I handle it as though I were grooming angles wings. In other words very, very carefully. OK, I know he's 75 years old and has a condition affecting his peripheral vision and I could understand if perhaps he had dropped it or fallen over it but how does he puncture it with his elbow?Maybe he'd just been watching Enter the Dragon and simply got carried away. You know these Bruce Lee fans….Catch you laterShirley

Elbow Ailments Let us talk about tennis first....
Elbow AilmentsLet us talk about tennis first. Although in the tennis the back, arms, legs and ankles can all be injured, the elbow is the most likely target for the trouble. Tennis elbow can develop in anyone playing the game because of the severe strain put on the elbow in serving and placing the ball. It must be kept in mind that the tennis racket is an extension of the forearm, and the combination acts as a lever arm for which the elbow is the fulcrum. If a ball traveling rapidly toward the player is struck with the racket, the entire force is transmitted to the elbow. That is bad enough, but is missed by the rapidly traveling racket.Whenever the player feels a strain on his elbow while playing, he should massage and place pressure on the acupuncture sites of the elbow each time the ball becomes dead. If he does this he may prevent tennis elbow from occurring either if it has already occurring or is a chronic problem with him. The procedure is mandatory while he is playing if he wan
