For the next few minutes, please humor me and pretend that Easter was yesterday, okay? Imagine the spring weather, bright sunshine, Easter Sunday service, an Easter egg hunt. And Dena. This year, Dena (my sister-in-law) hosted our family Easter lunch/egg hunt. And since it was at her house, she invited her family (including her creepy father). The night before Easter, Dena frantically called and

A very Happy Easter to all of you! We hope that you were able to enjoy your Easter as much as we did this year. As we have stated earlier, Easter is not a holiday that gets a mention in the news and it is rare that a Chinese person even recognizes the name of the holiday. Try to clear your mind for a moment and imagine explaining this holiday to somebody who has never heard of it before. What wo
Have you ever wondered where the word "Easter" comes from? The Britannica Encyclopedia (1934) states:“EASTER (es’ter). Ostara, or Eastre, was the goddess of Spring in the religion of the ancient Angles and Saxons. Every April a festival was celebrated in her honor. With the beginnings of Christianity, the old gods were put aside. From then on the festival was celebrated in honor of the resurrec

A Rose for the Crown by Anne Easter Smith
Spending a lot of hours parked in parents’ waiting rooms gives one a lot of time for reading. I found this book through a fellow historical fiction-loving parent. She was reading Daughter of York also by Anne Easter Smith and recommended her as an author.
The book is what I would call r0mantic historical fiction, not quite a r0mance novel, definitely

Easter Island has long been the subject of curiosity and speculation. How and why did its inhabitants carve and transport the massive statues which surround the island?
Easter Island is over 2,000 miles from the nearest population center, (Tahiti and Chile), making it one of the most isolated places on Earth. A triangle of [...]

The William Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale got off to a flying start at Newmarket yesterday, with turnover topping $32.7million. Overall, 206 mares were sold at a record average of $159,047 with a clearance rate of better than 83%. Topping Day 1 was the stakes winner Personify (Galileo-Procrastinate), who was knocked down to Kieran Moore for $2million and one of four mares to reach seven figures during the session. This represented an outstanding return for owner Paul Makin, who paid $1,025,000 for Personify last year before putting her in foal to Redoute’s Choice. This was the second time Personify had graced the Newmarket sales ring, as she was sold as a yearling for $650,000 at the 2005 Australian Easter Yearling Sale. Today is Easter for me. At my home we usually color the eggs traditionally, but this year I decided to do it a little different (to see how we color the eggs in Serbia, visit Medena's blog, she wrote step-by-step instructions). Happy Easter to all the Eastern Christians who celebrated it through this weekend and today Warning : The following is direct attack on the Pope Shounda III ,so if you are a devoted Egyptian Orthodox Christian , Please bear in your mind I respect your religion and Church but the following is not an attack against your religion Still I feel so sad and angry from what the Pope Shounda said and did this Easter from praying for Mubarak to have longer life !! and warning his people from listening to those vandals over the Internet who will be sent to hell !!?? For your information there were restricted orders to the Islamic and Christian religious men from the regime to warn and make the people scare from joining the 4th of May strike. For the Muslims this is something usual ,I know from
Easter is the predominant springtime feast celebrated by the Russian Orthodox. For religious Russians, the entire Lenten Season, referred to as the Quadragesima, has a markedly different feel than normal, day-to-day life. Historically, all theatre and music performances were banned during Lent, as they were considered distraction from the Lenten proscription to reflect and repent. Today, these public restrictions have lessened, although many individuals still maintain a strict adherence to the requirements of Lent, including not eating meat, eggs or other animal products during the 40 day "fast".Holy week, beginning with Palm Sunday, is a time of great activity in Russian homes, including spring cleaning and baking Easter bread. On Holy Thursday, Russians paint their Easter eggs using thei
It is known that Christian Easter Celebration Date became different between Eastern and Western Sides of the world, this difference took place in 1582, as a result of the decision made by the Western Church to start using the Gregorian Calendar -the standard calendar for much of the world- while the Eastern Church continued using the older Julian Calendar. How Easter Date is determined and the formula for Easter is the same for all sides: "The first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the vernal equinox" . and it is identical for both Western and Eastern sides, but the issue of applying it on different Calendars is resulting in different dates. This simple issue of using different calenders that is making some type of inconsistency of Easter Celebration Date, is making everyone wo
This Sunday 26 April, many of us will celebrate Easter. For Christians Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus. On Good Friday, Jesus Christ was executed by crucifixion. On the following Sunday, the disciples of Jesus went to his tomb to discover it was empty. But Easter is much more than a religious celebration and we [...]
Casanova Pete has a reputation for being a real ladies bunny. In his earlier days, this rabbit was one that could chase any chick and land a date. That was until he met Penny, the love of his life, but that is another story. Although his heart only goes pitter patter for one sweetie now, good old Pete has agreed to share some of his best dating advice. Sit back and get ready guys, this is some good stuff, and it does work. Just ask the long line of hot bunnies who once had the pleasure of being swept off their feet by the one and only Casanova Pete. Pete offers his advice depending on where you are in a relationship. Here are some of his best tips: · The initial ask out. According to Pete, the ladies love sincere and not phony. Leave the lines for the guys and tell a sweetie what you real

Easter Flowers
Although Easter is already a long time passed, we keep on having lots of "Easter Flowers" in our garden. Yes, that’s the name we give to daffodils…

Easter flowers fresh from the flower bulbs,

Indeed, Christ had risen and in celebration of that glorious day when the Lord defeated death, we remember it by celebrating Easter. But is it okay to celebrate it by dying eggs and telling our kids that the Easter Bunny is real?

I'm only...what?....two weeks late in posting these pictures, but I just had to go ahead and get them up here...late or not! This is the Easter egg hunt at Nana and Poppa's after church. Emily didn't care much about her basket, the challenge was how many could she carry and still pick more up.Mara Lin loved the princess stuff in her basket.Becca Sue found the Miss Pattycake DVD and didn't care about anything else. I don't think she picked up a single egg after finding it. She just carried it around saying "Paaeeee". "Easter Egg Radishes"9X12Oil on Linen Raymar PanelAvailablePlease click on either picture for a larger view.To re-cap, I bought these beautiful radishes from a very lovely young farmer's wife at the local Farmer's Market last year with every intention of painting them. (as opposed to eating them...artist's do that....buy food just for painting it, silly us!!) Well, as usual, life gets in the way of spontaneous explosions of painting, and I ended up setting them up in a still life so I could get to them even if they collapsed from age. Sure enough, it has taken me many months, but here they are!!! Worth the wait and fun to paint!! The farmer's wife told me they were called "Easter Egg Radishes" for their size, shapes and colors. I had never heard of this before, but I do think they are

"Easter Egg Radishes"9X12Oil on Raymar PanelWork in ProgressSorry to be jumping around like this, from signs, to the cat, back to the radishes...but today is the first time I've had in a few weeks to actually devote some hours to my painting. Only time now to wash my brushes and go to bed....but tomorrow is another day and I'll be back at them.Stay tuned....
I meant to post this during the Easter week but alas, I'm too busy. You can always use the same concept to make other stuff. We are planning to make our pumpkin container for Halloween! My son used this to store the chocolate Easter eggs for his friends in school. Yeah, he brought that big Easter Egg we made to school. *show-off :P*For this craft, we used 3 days to complete. The longest time taking craft we ever made and everyone was involved in the making. Everyone (hubby and little sis included) helped with the pasting of paper because we wanted to make it as sturdy as we can. I helped with some of the painting. It was fun to see how the Easter Egg turn out.Material needed:1 BalloonAssorted PaintsLots of newspaperLots of glue #see far bottom for instructions to make your own glueAddition i

Every tradition has to start somewhere. For my wife and I, this one started a year ago (in retrospect), with our first meal at Osteria, which just happened to be on Easter Sunday. So when Easter rolled around this year and we had none of the usual family plans, my wife suggested a repeat. And there you have it, a tradition in the making. In the course of the last year, we made it back to Osteria on several occasions (including lunch just a couple of days prior to Easter), enough for me substantiate and build upon my original impressions. I felt strongly enough about the overall experience at Osteria to call it the best new restaurant in Philadelphia in my 2007 year-end roundup. I still feel that way. Apparently I’m not alone, as Philadelphia Magazine rated Osteria as number one in th
Easter was a great time over at St. Philip. We had an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday for our children and their friends. Everyone met at the church and we had breakfast from Chick-fil-A, the kids decorated their own Easter bag, they hunted for eggs around the church, and then came back inside for some [...]

Day 0 - Auckland to Waikaremoana 6am the alarm clock sounded and within an hour we were on the road avoiding both rush hour and the Easter madness on the roads. It was a leisurely trip with a few stops along the way as we were in no rush and needed to pick up a few supplies along the way. Along the metal road a bus pulling over to allow a car to pass went over a bit too far sliding into the ditch so we offered them our assistance and before long we were all on our way. We eventually made it to the camp site at Waikaremoana late in the afternoon and startled the bunnies, perhaps a sign of things to come. We unpacked over a quiet beer welcoming the others as they arrived. Les and Gregor demonstrated how to pack their kayaks for those of us new to multi day overnight missions. Day 1 (East

We celebrated Easter again today. Red was sick last week so today was our rescheduled Easter. Funny how we were able to put off the holiday, we often do that at Christmas. So we can see both sides of the family and enjoy our own Christamas' we have it the weekend before or after. It is always so much fun, but for some reason we don't get together all that often, but we always have sooo much fun when we do. I think thats a new goal of mine, more family time. The cousins collaborated and built this snow sculpture in Kansas over the Christmas break. Mulligan and Ida, Jean, Connor, Eamon, and Eleanor I, and Keegan and Eleanor II all had a hand in it. Keegan and Eleanor II's mom is an artist and Mulligan and Ida's dad is as well, so there is art in some of the cousins' genes; and the ones that don't have it (basically my crew) are still useful as snow packers. This project was a long time coming, primarily due to lack of sculpting supplies in visits past. This was the first visit to Kansas in years where the weather has been remotely like I remember Kansas winters--cold and usually snowy. The four or five winters prior to 2007 have been snow-free and balmy enough for me to run outdoors with no jacket. I felt stupid lugging a down jacket al

We had a lovely Easter, starting off with our traditional Easter egg hunt (the Easter bunny hides the eggs and we look for them) and family breakfast (crescent rolls, bacon, hard boiled eggs, juice, coffee; and this year we added waffles with strawberries and whipped cream). I took a little break from my usual “don’t [...]
Hey All.I'm ba--ack!I have to tell ya I had the best time. And I know that right now you are a little confused at the title. You are saying right now, "Diamond, no way that you are a redneck!"I know, right? But, I swear it's true. And at the risk of losing my very intelligent, sophisticated reader, I have to admit that I do have redneck blood flowing through my vains. What?!!You don't believe that a "freaky naughty goddess" such as myself could possibly be of redneck decent?!!Okay...I'll prove it to you.1.) I was raised in Texas. I had a thick southern drawl and was apt to say things like, "ya'll ain't never gonna git that fixed that way...cain't nobody!"2.) I learned to swim by age 4. I was a real prodigy. I remember how proud my Daddy was when I finally resurfaced after he shoved m
