      How to Choose an Easel
Are you an aspiring artist or you are a seasoned one? In both the cases you need an easel, which is a good quality one as this can make a lot of difference in your painting. As an artist you can compromise on any of the ingredients but cannot get an easel that is not [...]

      On the easel...
The final gulls for the Orkney Bird Book are gradually appearing with a backdrop of Stromness and Kirkwall harbours. Not a blade of grass in this one :) I'm also working on an Iris (16" x 12") and a new miniature (2" x 3") - with apologies for the dreadful photo, I snapped it quickly last night which is almost always a mistake! I was delighted to hear this week that all my entries for the

      Art Easel
My son just turned 3. I read that 3 year olds are very creative. My son all of a sudden seems to be. He just recently took an interest in drawing and writing. Unfortunately, he likes drawing on the floor, coffee table, window sill, etc. I have a nice section on the wall of his decorative artwork from when he was about 2. So for his birthday I bought him an art easel. Very nice. I got a really good deal on it, $35.00, free shipping. It's from Melissa & Doug, is wooden, has a white board on one side and a chalk board on the other side. The height is adjustable, so it will grow with him. Each side has a tray for holding supplies. My only complaint is it does not come with art supplies. I just started him out with a set of white board markers, white board eraser, a box of sidewalk chalk, and a chalkboard eraser. It does come with clips to hold paper, but they break easily. I'm going to hold off on paints for a while. He's had the easel a week and plays with it every day. The Melissa &a

      On the Easel
www.BoydGreeneArt.com  This is a little painting on my easel right now giving me a little break from all the catching up I’m doing to get a lot of lose ends tied up. I’ll be starting back on the Cherohala Project soon and there will be an update to the graphite study I started a while back. You are going to love the title to this one and the reasoning for it.  Newest clue: how many sides does a panel have?  Thanks for stopping by BoydGreeneArt for a browse and have an awesome day.

      On my easel
Fisher king (Acrylic)I have been working on this on and off for three weeks .... and still a long way to go, I think. Not my usual kind of subject but I was intending to enter it into a national exhibition in Auckland which has a section sponsored by the Heron family, to which artists are invited to enter a painting in any medium of this strange yet elegant bird. However, the entry date has come and gone and the painting still isn't finished! But I refuse to give up on it and intend working on it some more today. With regard to the exhibition I have entered two paintings to the Open section. This is the first time I have plucked up courage enough to enter anything to a really large Auckland show. I should hear in the next couple of days whether or not either one has been accepted. Fingers are firmly crossed!

Prosperity or Posterity in the Art World: Can Artists Have Both? Find Out on Empty Easel
From the first time I landed on Dan's Empty Easel Web site, I was an immediate fan of the varied, valuable and interesting information he freely provides his readers.  He writes a blog every Monday through Friday, which I can attest from averaging a couple posts a week for Art Print Issues, is a daunting task. Here is Dan's published plan for Empty Easel:From the very start I wanted Empty Easel to be a free online art resource for all art lovers and artists. My goal was to write realistic art advice for both new artists and professional artists, without any vague or confusing “artspeak.” Dan succeeds at his plan by publishing a no-nonsense mix of useful, practical information on these varied topics: Art & Painting Tips; Art Articles; Reviews of Artists' Work; and Selling Art Online.  His recent overhaul of the site included inviting his readers to contribute articles for publication on the site.  I jumped on the chance because I want to support his efforts and

Dan from Empty Easel: What art means to me.
Dan, from EmptyEasel submitted his take on what Art means to him. Check it out below, and check out Empty Easeltoo. Art is hard work. Unlike some, I can’t relax when I’m painting. It’s too difficult, and to be completely honest, I don’t always enjoy it. The real reason I create art—the one thing that makes it worthwhile—is seeing that finished, perfect painting when I’m done. I actually feel the same way about painting as I do about working on my 1976 Datsun 280z. I love that car, but it takes some serious work to keep it in good shape. Every time I head out to the garage I just expect to skin my knuckles getting a bolt loose, or to spill brake fluid all over the floor trying to get those darn air bubbles out of the brake lines. So I plan ahead to make it easier on myself, assembling all my tools beforehand and thinking through the process each step of the way. When I make mistakes, I work twice as hard to fix them, because I know that’s the on

      Next piece on the easel
Another painting started today ... again using acrylic on canvas. This is just the first 'rough in' stage, and is a stage I really enjoy doing. Am hoping to retain some of this freshness as I work on it further. Its certainly a cheerful subject to try mid-winter when the temperature outside is around 9C ......!Technorati Tags Art, Weblog, Blog, acrylic, Painting,

Daily Painting On the Easel, "Sustenance" Part 2
"Sustenance" In Progress8X10Oil on Linen PanelThis is today's progress on this painting. Still have some fine tuning to do on the lettering and finish up the foreground and then I'll have it. Hopefully tomorrow.I could have dedicated this one to "Earth Day," but I think that was last week. I have a friend....well not really a friend anymore, but someone I've known all of my life. She always used to say, "Cheryl, if your ship came in, you would probably be at the bus station." Great thing to say to someone, yes? I'm still not sure what she meant by that except she acted as if I was some kind of totally out there not quite with it odd person who was never going to have any success whatsoever at anything. And even if I did, it wouldn't qualify as "her" kind of success. I stay up late, sleep late, think hard, and work on something as if there is no tomorrow. She didn't get that.Back to the point... if my "Earth Day" painting is a few days late, well who would know? To me ever

Daily Painting On the Easel, "Sustenance"
"Sustenance" In Progress8X10Oil on Linen PanelI love books. Mostly art books and romantic collections of prose and hand-illustrated cookbooks. At least I'm not indiscriminate. It's one of those things that I have to keep myself at bay. (my mother used the phrase when expressing restraint, "Get thee Satan behind me.") We lost our Media Play store here last year and I am still in mourning. They had wonderful books in categories I liked. It was the first place I went to for children's presents. This book, entitled "Meditations on the Earth," was a gift to me from a guy named Mike who has come and gone in my life. He left it in my mailbox one day before Christmas with a note. He is now a published author himself. And he has disappeared. He does that. Appears and then disappears with no forwarding address. For a while he was teaching business in Kansas. Before that, teaching business in Ukraine. Before that, he was in business management in North Carolina...previously in Sout
