My heart broke, right along with the rest of the racing world on that Sunday. I can still hear the words "We have lost Dale Earnhardt" ringing in my head like a bad dream. The Intimidator dead? That has to be wrong, but it wasn't wrong. What a tragic loss. I have been a dedicated fan of Dale's for as long as I can remember. I remember watching him when he drove the yellow and blue Wrangler car, I remember the battles between he and Rusty. When Jr. split from DEI in favor of Hendrick Motorsports, virtually any chance of this dynamic duo staying together vanished due to Hendrick's existing contracts.Hendrick's other big NASCAR stars, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon, have endorsement deals with another advertising juggernaut, Pepsi. Jr. seems to be genuinely disappointed that he couldn't keep Bud, and with good reason. Some of the very best ad gurus on the planet work for Budweiser, and many feel that's a main reason why Jr's such a popular figure. Then again, he has his legendary father's name working for him, too, which obviously helps. It looks as if Dale Earnhardt Jr. has found a home for next season. Earnhardt Jr. recently announced that he was leaving Dale Earnhardt Inc. at the end of this season. ESPN.com is reporting that Junior will head to Hendrick Motorsports and drive the #5 Chevy.People suspected that Junior was going to be heading to Joe Gibbs Racing, Richard Childress Racing or Hendrick Motorsports. When 150,000 Corvette enthusiasts vist the National Corvette Museum every year, one of the treats they encounter is a special display in honor of Dale Earnhardt.At the base of the spire (or "frustrum" as it is called by some) in the SkyDome, display cases present a wide range of items either which had been owned by Dale Earnhardt, or were created to honor him.  This collection, which primarily came from Terry Neal Thomas of Kentucky, includes cereal boxes, mugs, knives, model cars, autographs, the tragic accident newspaper headlines, photographs, and many other items.  In addition, a smaller similar selection is dedicated to Dale, Jr.Every Earnhardt fan will want to make a trek to see this amazing collection.[ NCM ]
