Earl Shilton Building Society has announced today it is cutting its standard variable rate by a parsimonious 0.05% to 7.35%.
Although several lenders have still not announced any cut at all in their SVR following this month’s 0.25% reduction in bank rate one has to wonder whether it is really worth the admin effort to cut by just 0.05%. Even Northern Rock has managed a 0.1% cut!
A cut of 0.05% must be a record for the smallest SVR cut of any lender for a very long time, and possibly ever, and at 7.35% Earl Shilton’s SVR is now one of the highest of any lender, let alone any building society!

The "to be continued" second part of Earl and Randy's adventure was titled Midnight Run. I love how this show brings back movies and TV shows that I really enjoyed either by reference or names in titles. I've been a fan of Jason Lee's ever since I met Brodie in Mallrats. The guy just has a great way of delivering lines and in My Name is Earl that skill is no exception.The episode brings Earl and Randy to the trailer park where Frank is going after his stash of the cash from their big robbery. Apparently it was about $3,000.00 or so, the stack was small. Frank turns on the guys as he also stashed his gun in the trailer. Randy and Earl are handcuffed to the freezer door, Joy and Darnell come in after getting kicked out of the hospital and Ray Ray and Liberty also come into the trailer. All six (seven including the baby) are held hostage by Frank.Earl and Randy have made amends and they are headed back to prison with Frank in tow. The warden now can take 5 weeks off Earl's sentence. I was able to catch up on a few shows that were tapes while I was in Vegas.I think I peed a little watching this episode of My Name is Earl. As some of you know there has been a long running racial tension between African Americans and Latinos/as, mainly with Mexican Americans. These tensions date back around the time of Texas independence and when the US annexed a third of Mexico’s territory following the Mexican War. However, it was during the time, 1920s, when Mexican Americans were trying to attain a certain level of “Whiteness” when tensions between Mexican Americans and African Americans really started. As

The many releases used a combination of the video soundtrack and a proper soundboard source tape. However this was incomplete, running for only 180 minutes. Several years ago Celebration released the 4CD Odysseus, which should and could have been much better. More soundboard tape was used (in Dazed and Confused and for Moby Dick), but there were still gaps in the acoustic section which should have been filled by the audience source. Recently however even more of the soundboard source tape appeared, and this was used by Watch Tower for their 4CD release To Be A Rock And Not To Roll. The gaps were carefully filled with an excellent audience tape. Unfortunately, like so many of Watch Tower's releases, this was again spoilt by numerous digital 'clicks' and 'ticks'

My latest online tea order shipped with some unanticipated freebies - a handful of individual teabags from Darvilles of Windsor. I didn't think much of them at the time, and only just today rifled through them to see what was included. There were two packets each of Earl Grey, English Breakfast, Darjeeling and one called "Royalty" (which I later learned is a special blend produced only by Darvilles of Windsor, apparently by "Royal Appointment" of the British Royal Family, who they've served since 1946).Anyway, it was time for my pre-dinner cuppa and I didn't feel like fussing with loose tea, so I rooted through these packets and brewed up a Darvilles of Windsor Earl Grey. And surprise, surprise - it was quite good! A clean, crisp brew which is neither too smoky nor too scented, but pretty darned close to just right.I've only one more bag left but if the 2nd one comes out as nicely as the first, I may just have to place a proper order for a tin of the loose stuff and give it a prope

In a previous post I talked a little about how Earl Greys tend to have an aroma that's quite different from their taste. In my experience, most Earls have that same, delightful bergamot smell to them, while the taste can range from bitter to sour and, probably most often, to smoky. This to be is the ultimate let-down, because the smell of bergamot is perhaps one of my all-time favorite things in the world... and once its wafted into my nostrils, I just can't accept a smoky, bitter tea on my palate.Adagio however goes to the exact opposite extreme. Their Earl Grey (they call it Earl Grey Bravo) smells incredible - hands down, its one of the finest nasal experiences I've ever had with a tea. Its heavily, and I mean heavily, scented with fruity bergamot. There's even sizeable chunks of citron peel floating about in the mix. It seems that no matter what new-fangled tea I try, or whatever brief infatuations I may have with one or another flavors, I always come back to this most favorite of teas.
