      Epcot turns 25 today!
EPCOT, Epcot Center, Epcot ‘94, Epcot ‘95, Epcot, or whatever you want to call it (the Disney theme park that has had more name variations than any other) opened today 25 years ago. Here is a special about the opening of Epcot Center from way back then.  It stars Danny Kaye and a young Drew Barrymore riding the celebrity magic carpet right off of ET. Oklahoma going to Epcot
The state of Oklahoma will have a booth featured at this year’s Epcot Food & Wine Festival. Although they are saying that Oklahoma is the first state to have a booth at the festival, this is really not the case.  I’ve had the fortune of attending the Food & Wine Festival a few times and I do remember Florida having a booth showcasing citrus and seafood.  So they must mean that this is the first time that a state other than Florida has had a booth. The description of the Oklahoma booth makes it sound as if it is going to be a little larger than the normal food stall installations.  In the past, larger temporary structures have been built showcasing Spain and Austrailia.  What is interesting is that these were located deep inside World Showcase.  The Florida booth was towards the front of the park near the Future World section. Mickey Mouse Shaped Pumpkin at Epcot
Epcot, one of the main attractions in Florida, has an agriculture farm and research center where they grow tomatoes hydroponically (i’m not sure what that is either) and they specially grow Mickey Mouse Shaped Vegetables like this cute Mickey Mouse Ears Pumpkin (pictured) Yes, there is alot of innovation going on at the Epoct Agriculture Center, but we really would rather talk about and display Mickey Shaped Veggies. Read the whole article here for all the funky food details. Source [Slash Food] Technorati Tags: agriculture, mickey mouse, vegetables, epcot, florida, disney world, Powered by ScribeFire.

The Wand at Epcot is coming down!
After the fiasco that was the pink castle at the Magic Kingdom for Walt Disney World’s 25th Anniversary, I didn’t think that they would mess with any of the park icons again. I was wrong. Not too long after the pink was scrubbed off the castle, it was announced that they were going to do something with Spaceship Earth for the Millennium Celebration. Many jokingly said it was going to be a cup cake, but the joke was half-hearted. What were they going to do? We soon found out as they erected a giant Sorcery Mickey arm holding a giant wand that had 2000 on top of it- this towered over the 180 foot geosphere. At first I thought it was neat as a temporary piece of architecture. Then I grew to hate it because it never went away. The Millennium Celebration came and went, but the wand remained. Then contstruction crews came out and we thought that the disassembly would start. No, the 2000 came down and “Epcot” went up. I’m not sure why. Maybe they though

Blondheim Art Original Painting Epcot Center Flower and Garden Festival 2007
United Kingdom Trees8x10 inchesacrylic on panel500.00silver or gold framePurchase HEREPainters TipIn my opinion, the three most important areas of study in painting are color, values and composition. I call them the big three. We all have limited time for painting. I believe concentrating on those three areas will bring you the best results. This is no small task. I have been studying the big three for many many years and I have much to learn. Composition and the design elements are a lifetime study for most painters and should be. Composition is the alpha dog of the trio. I promise if you will take the time to study the design elements and composition your work will improve. Use your painting study time wisely. Focus on the big three and you can't go wrong.

Without a definable subject it becomes boring and incomplete. A painting can evoke mood, emotion or make a statement via the subject you choose. Every painting needs a dominant feature to stabilize and balance the composition, whether recognisable or not. Think of the subject as a magnet for the viewer. It should be compelling in some way.

      Day at Epcot
The second full day at Disney World, we toured around Epcot, by far Doug's and my favorite park. Here some are the attractions we took:Viking ride in Norway - Right after our princess lunch we hopped onto the Norway ride which had no line! Adam got spooked again because it was too dark and a bit scary. Dova also told me "Mom, that was too scary." She hammed it up for the troll afterwards though.Test Track - Adam had been all gung ho about this ride but once we stood outside watching the cars whiz by, he changed his mind and refused to go. I still got the four Fast Pass tickets to come back later. Grandma and I went when the time came, loved it, and I called Doug to come over and take Adam. The both loved it of course. While Adam was on the ride, I took Dova back over to the outside Nemo display. She was so cute another lady asked permission to take pictures of her as well.Spaceship Earth - It was a bit dark, but I heard Grandma talk Adam through it and he was pretty much OK w

See Paula at EPCOT in Disney World!
I just got word that the video my daughter, Julie, and I filmed for Cochlear Americas is now playing on the product wall in the Innoventions West building at EPCOT! Four people with cochlear implants were featured, Julie and I were two of the four. Just filming it and knowing it would be seen by people around the world who were considering cochlear implants for themself or their child was exciting. Then, having it played on the televisions in all the hotel rooms at the AG BELL convention in Pittsburgh last summer was quite a thrill. (We were recognized every time we were together in an elevator!) But now, we’re “officially famous” according to Julie. And to think my husband was at a conference in Orlando and came home just two days before we found out we were playing there. The video is called, “Back to the Hearing World” and is available from Cochlear. It’s a wonderful, informational piece showing 4 types of people and their cochlear implant experi
