Damn… Kevin Durant Named Rookie Of The Year… Thought It Would Be Horford!
I think Al Horford had WAAAAAAAAAAAY more impact on his team and the league than Durant did. BELLEVUE, Wash. — Kevin Durant was so excited to learn he had just won the NBA Rookie of the Year award, he went back to sleep. That’s what seven months and 82 games — more than double the amount the [...]

Durant with 15 points as the Sonics beat Cavs
P.J. Carlesimo earned his first win as SuperSonics’ coach, 96-90 over the Cleveland Cavaliers in an exhibition game Friday night. Cavs All-Star forward LeBron James was forced out of action in the third quarter because of a right shoulder contusion. The injury doesn’t appear to be serious. He had 14 points for the Cavs. Forward Chris Wilcox led all scorers with 20 points and eight rebounds for Seattle. Guard Kevin Durant, a leading candidate for Rookie of the Year honors, had 15 points and seven rebounds. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2007 draft was just 5-of-22 from the field.

Greg Oden vs. Kevin Durant: Tale of the Tape
You've probably heard and read enough about Greg Oden and Kevin Durant to the point where the draft can't come soon enough. We agree. So we won't waste your time here with things like points, rebounds, steals and blocked shots, but we'd like to try to enlighten you on why those numbers are just a small part of what these young men, expected to go 1-2 in Thursday night's NBA draft, are about and why they are so special. The Courant checked in with Texas coach Rick Barnes and Ohio State associate head Coach John Groce last week to tell us something we may not know about Oden and Durant and what the NBA can expect. Something that impressed them - or not - around the time their college careers began. The coaches obliged, and it was confirmed: Oden and Durant are special. There are no two ways about it.The NBA will love them, commissioner David Stern in particular, because they are high-character guys. They lived up to the hype that has been following them since high school, and now the

Stardom forecast early for Oden, Durant
By Christopher Lawlor, USA TODAY NEW YORK — — Just over a year ago, Greg Oden and Kevin Durant were in classrooms of their respective high schools. After a whirlwind year, they are expected to go 1-2 in tonight’s NBA Draft (7:30 ET, ESPN). Both were first-team USA TODAY All-USA players in 2006 and their success does not surprise their high school coaches. Stu Vetter, who coached the 6-10 Durant at Montrose Christian in Rockville, Md. (a suburb of Washington, D.C.) during the more…

      Doubting Durant
Ok, I admit it. I’m not sold on Kevin Durant as the “second coming.” He’s a talented scorer and the clear cut #2 pick in the draft, but I’m just not sure if he’s a guy who will guarantee a franchise a string of NBA Finals appearances. Here’s why. Take a look at some of the Kevin Durant highlight compilations on Youtube. In them he showcases unlimited range, a remarkable array of pull-up and fadeaway jumpers, and the ability to get off a balanced shot from almost any position. With those moves there is no doubt that he can score 30 points a game in the NBA. Still, there are many things you don’t see, and it’s not because they weren’t included in those specific videos. Durant doesn’t attack the basket from the low post and he rarely beats his defender off the dribble for an easy dunk or layup. Without those skills Durant will not draw double teams in the NBA—it’s just not worth double teaming a guy who doesn’t come within 10 feet of the ba

      Oden or Durant? Probably Oden
Just 4 days from the NBA Draft and it's still up in the air whether the Blazers will select Kevin Durant or Greg Oden with the number one pick. Or at least it looks that way. ESPN probably waved money at Blazers GM Kevin Pritchard and told him to keep their selection confidential until the NBA Draft, which has been pointlessly stretched from 2 hours long to 4.5 hours long. And while seeing Oden drafted won't entice me to watch a minute of it, it may go down as one of the most important drafts ever. Forgetting to juxtapose each other's strengths and skills, it looks pretty obvious Oden is going #1. The majority of input from sportswriters is that Greg Oden is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity who could be one of the best modern Centers ever. The vote on the Blazers homepage is 73% in favor of Oden, and I imagine people in the Portland area are honking once more than twice.Any serious consideration to take Durant is probably less about Durant's potential and more that they have Zach R

      Durant's "Weak" Workout
The NBA held its pre-draft camp and the Seattle Times got their hands on the results from the camp. You can find the article along with the results listed HERE. The big story is that Texas Freshman Kevin Durant was ranked 78th out of 80. The predicted number two pick in the NBA draft, after Ohio State's Greg Oden would be drafted by Portland, had that BAD of a workout??? The Seattle Sonics

Kevin Durant Wins Player of the Year
The inevitable finally came to fruition this afternoon, as Texas super phenom Kevin Durant won the AP National Player of the Year award overwhelmingly, earning 70 of the 72 overall votes, with the other two votes going to Wisconsin's Alando Tucker. Durant is now the first freshman to ever win the prestigious honor, and as the voting reflected, there was no question about it.Durant probably had the most eye-popping statistical season ever for a freshman, with his 25.8 scoring average and 11.1 rebound average. Not just averaging a double-double, but doing so comfortably. And he came up big in Texas's most important games, upping his scoring average in 5 postseason games (Big 12 Tournament, NCAAs) to 28.5 per game.Certainly it helped his case that he was by far the most talented player on the Longhorns, (a team that probably would have been a #7-#10 seed in the NCAA Tournament without him), meaning he had to carry the load. But that doesn't take away from the fact that he is a spectacu

Take Your Pick: Oden vs. Durant
So, this is something that has been done on like 96% of sports blogs out there and even though it is a little late I want to do it anyways. Cuz if everyone's doing it...then it's best to follow along in order to fit in.Alright, I've got the first pick in the NBA Draft next year, which guy do I want (assuming both leave for the draft). In case one stays let's just say we are looking for the all around best player at the next level right now. Here we go.....Oden- Offense is weak but excels at other aspecs which are essential and much needed at the next level (some NBA squads may take an interest in PLAYING DEFENSE which adds greatly to his appeal)Oden- You can't teach size.Durant- He can do it allDurant- A better scorer than OdenDurant- Can play multiple positions at the next levelOden- already has the NBA-bodyDurant- Still needs to fill out for the next levelBy highlighting just a few of these Pros and Cons it is easy to tell that this is a tough call and both players will no doub

Kevin Durant Is Departin' Like Billy Martin
Is it just me or is it not against NCAA rules for a shoe company to have contact with a college basketball player who is still an underclassmen? From the Morning News: Word is Kobe Bryant has already called Kevin Durant on behalf of Nike and that a shoe deal ranging between $30 million and $50 million simply needs to be presented.
