Sure, it doesn't pay anything, and it's really nothing more than looking at certain aspects of human behavior and snarkily quipping at it, but it takes a lot out of a guy. When I'm not debunking, dismissing, deconstructing, or spending time with my family (in that order), I'm usually sleeping. Or, if my copy of Grand Theft Auto IV worked (thanks a lot, Rockstar Games), shooting hookers with rocket launchers. Which is why I was as surprised as anyone to find myself in a rare moment of leisure contemplating sitting in front of the keyboard and typing a short story about my Dungeons & Dragons character.

Gary Gygax, the co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons died yesterday at the age of 69. Confirmation of the sad news was published on Troll Lord Games website. Steve Chenault described his friend Gygax as “a man who so loved games and the fun that they bring us that he devoted his entire life to crafting them for us…and playing them. Actually I changed my mind, it's only safe to say that if you accept that this is an RPG in the first place, which it really isn't, despite the AD&D title.There is absolutely no role playing involved. Your primary goal seems to consist of breaking into people's houses and stealing all their money without getting caught by the guards. Even when you are doing your job, following the missions given by your guild or whatever, you are always an outlaw. Your alignment doesn't matter. Your class doesn't matter. Clerics can't heal themselves, Magic-Users can't use magic, and Thieves are the only class that have any trouble stealing things, because everyone else can just break the lock, while a thief is supposed to use lock picks, which is nearly impossible and results in a bag full of broken tools rather than getting away with the loot. via console classix dot com
