      Glamis Sand Dunes
The Glamis Sand Dunes are the most popular off-road destination in Southern California. Hundreds of thousands of visitors arrive on various holiday weekends, often grouping in popular areas during specific times of the day, such as Oldsmobile Hill in the afternoon and Gecko Road in the afternoon. The BLM estimates that over 1.4 million visitors come to these sand dunes each year for day-use riding

Sand dunes of Mui Ne, Vietnam
The different sand formations around Mui Ne are a major attraction after its beaches. The sand ranges from pure white to gold in the Bau Trang (White Lake), to a fiery red in other areas. We visited several sand formations including the red sand dunes in Fairy Stream and Red Canyon, the white sand dunes in Bau Trang as well as the yellow (gold) sand dunes. If not for the cluster pine trees by the lake, one would think it's a desert in Africa or the Middle East. In Bau Trang, you can ride a horse up the dunes or slide down on a makeshift sled which small kids will tout to you.We booked this afternoon tour in Ham Tien Beach. It was US$14 per person but we had the 4x4 all to ourselves. The ride around was a blast as I enjoyed the wind hit my face as we stood behind the jeep.

      Trips: White Wash Dunes
White Wash Dunes is quickly becoming one of our favorite destinations. It offers alot of varied riding terrain with fantastic scenery. The above photo was taken about 50 feet from our trailer, so quick access to terrain is an understatement. The popular ten mile canyon trail is also near by. These dunes lined the path to the Isle of Palms beach where the little pink house sat.All things considered, even though my life was in flux and I was making do out of a suitcase in strange temporary quarters preparing for another European tour, I was a quick drive to a very nice beach and that alone made all the difference. Sea Trees on the Dunes.
Sea Trees on the Dunes. (seascape2)Dry sand beneath my feet. Cotton grass shuddering in the sea breeze. The smell of hot pine resin on the air. A long way off I can hear the waves and children are shouting. It is like a lullaby. This place makes me think of my childhood, long hot summers in Cornwall, forgetting completely about school, rain or grey skies. Where I was became a desert island and I became Robinson Crusoe. As I push my feet into the hot sand I know that it is never really lost, that island in my mind, the endless summer of childhood. It is sweet to be able to step back into it for a little while. 25.5cm x 20.5cm. 10in x 8in.Oil. Painting 008This painting is for sale:85 pounds (UK) 170 dollars (USA) and 126 euros (Europe). Sleeping Bear Dunes
It is embarrassing to admit that I somehow missed Tim’s note (on the sidebar) explaining the banner picture at the top of the blog. Ahem. Sorry about that, Dear. I should have known that a conscientious blogophile like you would be sure to identify the picture for our readers. While we were visiting my family in Michigan, we had the opportunity to go to the Sleeping Bear Dunes with my parents and my brother’s three children. I have to write about our dune adventure lest people (who, like me, didn’t read Tim’s note) think the picture at the top of the blog is just some random shot of the beach and nearby lake. And, frankly, a rather boring picture at that. Well, in our defense, that isn’t just some dull old two-dimensional shot of sand and water, it’s where we stood overlooking the water, 400 + feet above Lake Michigan on a mountain (okay, hill) of sand. Sand that we were going to climb DOWN. Truly a picture fraught with danger and excitement.

      Grandaddy - Concrete Dunes

The colection includes 2 previously unreleased songs in addition to 6 import only tracks plus select tracks off their debut e.p. A Pretty Mess By This One Band. Also included is an out of print gem, "Why Would I Want to Die". Concrete Dunes documents the early development of Grandaddyís evolved space rock sounds, which are further in evidence on 2000's superb Sophtware Slump.

      Skateboarding at the Dunes!
Whoooo-hooooo! Tonight I was just watching an old rerun of CSI when Bran called and wanted to know if I wanted to catch some air over at the Dunes. You don't have to twist my arm. Put some cold ones in the cooler, grabbed my board and went to get Bran. It was awesome! Nice cool night with the ocean mist just rolling in and some moonlight to skate with too. I did a fakie down the stairs and an awesome kickflip. Bran did some grinding on the rails. After we had been there for a while, these 2 gorgeous girls came over to ask us if we had a smoke. Too bad for us that we didn't or we might have just had company for the night! The girls went on in search of smokes and we were gettin' pretty beat from skating for 4 hours. On the way home we stopped at Taco Bell and I ordered 5 Taco Supremes, 2 bean burritos and a quesadillo. Just a snack! I'll dance it all off tomorrow anyway.

I'm pleased with the variety of earthy colors in this and the composition. I think it really captures the lonley, rugged feeling of the dunes in the off season. A painting with no contrast or variety of values can be boring. Think about thirds in value and contrast, perhaps using two thirds light, one third dark, two thirds dark, one third light or in other words, making light or dark dominate the composition with a bit of medium and light/dark rather than even distribution of values throughout the painting.

      California Dunes
Wind blown sand is hard to keep out of your eyes when It's coming from a smooth dune buggy tire spinning down the beach. I loved going with Dad and his friends when they were called out to look for people who became lost. It was a massive area and it was very easy to become lost with nothing out there but white sand. I remember on the fourth of July there were hundreds of people and hundreds of dune buggies hoards camping all along from Pismo Beach ramp all the way to Muscle Rock which was a stretch about two miles long . We would drive up and down the beach, looking for buggies stuck in the surf or people who ran out of gas, or even needing a jump. Dad had a 56 Studebaker 440 along with a three quarter racing cam I really don't remember what all of that meant but I know it was fast. Dale a good friend of dads painted the name "limping Lena" on the back of the gas tank. The frame of the buggy was 3 inch tubing the same with the roll-bars that ran from the firewall over the p

I have long had the idea of finding a wealthy patron who is willing to host an art party, like the candle parties or Tupperware parties, or basket parties, where the hostess gets a little painting for doing the food and inviting influential friends. How about renting a vacant store front space for a day, or asking an artist with compatible work to share his/her studio for a weekend party? You could share the expenses. Don't forget rec centers, church halls and other alternative spaces like a local restaurant. When I first moved my studio back home in the building behind my house others said, "It will never work.
