      Dueling Rednecks
Who will win this battle of the Rednecks? The Redneck on the ATV with a battle-ax or Giant Eyeball Redneck on the lawn mower with a sword? It’s a close matchup but I think Lawn Mower Redneck is gonna lose an eye! a2a_linkname="Dueling Rednecks"; a2a_linkurl="-rednecks/"; [...]

      Dueling 2005 Auxey-Duresses Rouges
Along with lots of wines from Germany and the Loire, I’ve been on a wee Burgundy kick of late. That’s a good thing in my books, as Bourgogne, both white and red, can be some of the most compelling juice out there. It can also be a dangerous passion to pursue, as bargains are hard to come by in the wake of the currently dreadful performance of the US dollar. Luckily, there are still a few relatively obscure villages capable of producing solid values in both red and white Burgundy. One such AOC is Auxey-Duresses, a small commune located in the shadows of Meursault on the Côte de Beaune. As an increasing number of basic Bourgognes Rouges are breaking the $25-30 price barrier, it’s refreshing to find village level Burgundies available at that same price point. I checked in on a coup

Dueling Duos: One Dynamic One Defensive
Alessandra Stanley’s “TV Watch” column in today’s New York Times perfectly and concisely captures the tones, impacts, and imports of the Democratic frontrunners’ talk show appearances yesterday — Barack Obama with Tim Russert on Meet the Press and Hillary Clinton on This Week with George Stephanopoulos. Senator Obama was downbeat and defensive; Senator Clinton was dominant [...]

      Dueling Potties
Tonight I had the fun of bouncing between bathrooms as Thing 1 and Thing 2 both were attempting to go #2 on the potty. I was reminded of the banjo scene from the movie Deliverance, as I traveled back and forth to calls of “Daaaaddddy!”. They alway decide they need to go potty after [...]

      K'NEX Dueling Racers
Sarah from Child's Play Communications emailed and asked if I'd be interested in reviewing a K'NEX product sample. Since I have a little boy who loves race cars of any kid, I asked her to send me the Dueling Racers set! What I didn't realize until we received the product was that this set is geared for children 7+. Snuggle Bug is 3 years old. Believe me, this was no problem.Ends up, Oronzo is a 7 year old boy trapped in a 40 year old body! He was really excited when this product arrived and he had these motorized race cars assembled in no time flat! He waited until Snuggle Bug was in bed to get started and then spent a considerable amout of time "testing them out" for Snuggle Bug.The next morning, Snuggle Bug discovered them sitting on the kitchen table and jumped up and down with glee, ask

Rogue vs. Warrior: A guide to dueling
I'd thought I'd make this guide just for fun. I'm not saying rogues who read this will have to encase themselves around the following strategies, these are simply the ones I use when dueling one. Anyways right now it can be hard to kill warriors one on one in a duel. This level of difficulty and strategy and change drastically upon spec, so I've broken it down to 4 possible specs rogues may be using today. Combat read more

      Dueling Banjoes About Iraq
The Dixie Chicks apparently have aroused the anger of those who see in Iraq and Afghanstan a modern crusade for liberty and democracy.Their song, “Now Ready To Make Nice” led Major Deryl Michael and his friend Tim Hernandez, to go on the offense by composing a song in rebuttal. Their song, “No Ready To End [...]

      Dueling Blogs Lead to Huey-pocalypse
The banjos are warming up. The gauntlet has been bought on E-Bay by Renal Failure and thrown down. Days of bitter verbal sparring has boiled over into all-out blogging Armageddon. The Huey-pocalypse has finally happened. In this corner we have Diesel and his claim that Huey Lewis should be back on the radio after years of being relegated to stations with names like ‘Bill’ or ‘Frank’. Nothing like having the songs you wrote and sang being sandwiched between ‘In Da Club’ by 50-Cent and ‘Last Train to Clarksville’ by the Monkees. To be fair Huey Lewis is loved mostly by people who grew up in the 1980’s with parachute pants, muscle shirts, and bandanas. Apparently that was Diesel’s wardrobe in high school. Still, the children of the 80’s continue to show up to Huey concerts so there could be some merit to his side of the argument. Too bad they also arrive wearing denim jackets and leg-warmers. Leading the Anti-Huey side is

      Dueling Authors
I doubt that many book bloggers have been directly confronted by the authors they have reviewed (although I know of at least one nasty case of that happening), but it does happen regularly to newspaper critics and authors who dare to review their peers. In Friday's Washington Post, author Carolyn See reviewed Porochista Khakpour's Sons and Other Flammable Objects in the form of an open letter to

      Cardboard tube dueling
From Buzzfeed: People battling using cardboard tubes now have an official league. As ridiculous as it sounds, sometimes people who suck at sports feel the need to make up their own. We assume that's how dodgeball was invented. Here are the rules: 1. Don't break your tube. In a duel, the last person with an unbroken tube is declared the winner. 2. No stabbing. Lunges involving tubes are never allowed under any circumstances. 3. Try not to work the face. Hitting people in the face is heavily frowned upon and can force your ejection from the event. 4. Once your tube is broken you must stop fighting. 5. You may not block your opponents tube with your arms, hands or legs. Sadly, I must admit, this looks like fun.

      Dueling Blog Updates
Last night I was helping Jackie with the Crop4Hope site, and we were updating almost simultaneously.  It was funny -- she'd post, then I'd rearrange and edit ... Maybe in my sleep deprived state things just appear funny to me - kindof like objects in the mirror are closer than they appear - things happening when you're tired appear funnier then they are -- it was more likely one of those you just had to be there scenarios. Anyway ... still trying to come up with a work around so I can attend the actual Crop4Hope crop.  It's just too darn hard because it's the end of a month and the end of a quarter at work.  I just can't take off without closing the month and it's not in me to just say too bad and leave anyway, and I'm not sure I really want to do the fly in one day fly out the next thing.  I know Jackie wants me there, but I'm just not so sure I'd be any help and the bulk of the work (setting up the crop) will already be done.  Not to mention that

Spy vs. I-Spy: A Tale of Dueling Anti-Spyware Bills
The House of Representatives last week passed a bill called the “I-SPY Act” — a.k.a. the “Internet Spyware Prevention Act of 2007.” I believe it’s important to highlight the benefits and limitations of this measure. For starters, I-SPY is an enforcement bill, but it will likely do little to prevent any kind of [...]

      Dueling Cabs
Saturday my Father and Brother drove an hour and a half to Paso Robles from Monterrey County. Our dear friends Bruce Hansen, the wine maker of Hansen Winery, has been ill for sometime now. July was our last visit, so we were about due! Dad and Ahren found Bruce in high spirits, always the entertainer, Bruce opened every single bottle of wine he had on hand! Needless to say this was their only winery visit that day. Wheew. Dad brought home a 2002 Estate Bottled Cabernet Sauvignon and then rummaged around in his wine closet for a 2001 of the same estate bottling. The 2001 was vastly superior, more intensity, more velvet and clearly a good year for the grapes. While the 2002 needed more time to come of age, it was quieter, softer but just as lovely as its older brother. What was amazing about the experience was how well it went with the pork we had for dinner. The meat balanced the earthiness of the wine, but did not over shadow it. Hansen doesn't have a website, but if you ever g

The Week Ahead - Dueling Central Bank Meetings
Both the Bank of Japan and the Federal Reserve will be holding policy making meeting this week. The BOJ is expected to keep its benchmark lending rate at .5% after raising it to that level February 21st. The Yen has rallied more than 3% since that rate increase sparking the start of the unwinding of the so called 'carry trade'. The Federal Reserve announces Wednesday and is also expected to
