      Ducks, Turtles, and Beer.
Yesterday it felt wonderful outside, in spite of looking like this:so, because I'm the Best Mommy Ever, I decided we'd make a little impromptu stop at the park on our way home from work. Only it rained the night before, so Mommy totally forgot the playground would be too wet to play on. My bad.So, we ventured to the other side where there is a duck pond. We checked out the ducks:And saw a million turtles: (And do you totally see the shape of a heart on that turtle's back??)And then we stumbled upon a new "hobby" for EB. He was walking along and started picking up nasty beer bottle tops out of the ground. They were pretty sunk in after the rain. My first instinct was to scream, "DON'T TOUCH THAT!!!", but instead I let him pick up as many as we wanted, threw out the duplicates and brou

A vitória do passado dia 15 em Dallas, parecia ter dado algum alento à equipa de Anaheim e muitos pensaram que afinal a série estava longe de estar decidida. ANOTHER ETHANOL VICTIM: DUCKS & PHEASANTS
COMMON DREAMS Out on the farm, the ducks and pheasants are losing ground. Thousands of farmers are taking their fields out of the government's biggest conservation program, which pays them not to cultivate. They are spurning guaranteed annual payments for a chance to cash in on the boom in wheat, soybeans, corn and other crops. Last fall, they took back as many acres as are in and combined. Environmental and hunting groups are warning that years of progress could soon be lost, particularly with the native prairie in the. But a broad coalition of baking, poultry, snack food, ethanol and livestock groups say bigger harvests are a more important priority than habitats for waterfowl and other wildlife. They want the government to ease restrictions on the preserved land, which w

This is Pato's favourite stall called Pondok Abang to get his Ayam Penyek during lunch time. Ayam Penyek is a dish from Indonesia but had since made many waves with the locals and today you can easily get it anywhere (probably an overhyped by now). But what made this particular stall caught Pato's taste was the whole package itself. Good serving portion, crispy fried chicken, hot and spicy chilli paste with a twist of sweet and sour from the grapes. When Pato recommended Pearl to try savour the real flavour with the grape, she find it so weird. She don't find it as the right equation to the recip

      Canucks-Ducks Preview
The Canucks cruise into Anaheim tonight to take on a Duck team that is already favored to win the Stanley Cup. Given the Canucks' current 3-game winning streak and their domination of Anaheim this year (3 wins in 3 games and outscoring them 9-3), I'm sure the Canucks don't care if the Ducks are contenders or not.But this is a different Ducks team than the Quacks we played on December 30th. Scott Niedermayer and Teemu "Buzz Lightyear" Selanne were not playing for Anaheim then. These 2 players sparked the team when they returned and continue to do so. However, the Ducks have lost 3 of their last 4 games, after going 11-1-1 in 13 games. They lost their last game to Phoenix in the shootout.A motivating factor for the Ducks besides not getting swept by the Canucks this season? If the Ducks win

After going through the low motion and the turmoil in the political scene, this city is now starting to evolve to a more promising arena. You could see many new mega malls had sprung up, commercial buildings are rising up challenging each other and upmarket residence with very posh setting interiors splashing on the condone fences. Older projects which had come to a standstill during the crisis had resumed and many construction works are now speeding up. The picture above was taken right inside the hotel bedroom of

We were about 10 rows back, up close and personal to the Plexiglas, just caddy-corner to the goal, so we had a clean view of the action, and I got some great shots. Here are a few. He was waiting in line for a ride at the airport. When a cab pulled up, the first thing Harvey noticed was that the taxi was polished to a bright shine. Smartly dressed in a white shirt, black tie, and freshly pressed black slacks, the cab driver jumped out and rounded the car to open the back passenger door for Harvey. He handed him a laminated card and said:"I'm Wally, your driver. While I'm loading your bags in the trunk I'd like you to read my mission statement."Taken aback, Harvey read the card. Ducks trade McDonald to Blues for Weight
The Ducks also receive Czech prospect Michal Birner and a 7th-round draft pick in the 2008 NHL Entry draft. I was expecting Brian Burke to trade a defenceman, as he was proclaiming that every defenceman was up for grabs except Pronger. The 2 teams acquire struggling centers and hope for better results. McDonald only has 4 goals and 12 assists in 33 games. He is not the same without Selanne and had not clicked with any other Duck. The aging Weight only has 4 goals and 7 assists in 29 games. McDonald has already played with Kariya a few years back with the Quacks. He is earning $3.33 million per season and has another year left in his contract.Weight, who makes $3.5 million this season will become a UFA this summer, and will probably be used to jumpstart Todd Bertuzzi. Bert the Floating Futile only has 8 points in 19 games with the Ducks. I like this deal for both teams. But I don't like to see the Ducks keeping Schneider. That is one wicked blueline group. Canucks 3 Ducks 2: Youth is served
Well, I guess I underestimated the Canucks' abilities.Praise be to Curtis Sanford! The Ducks outshot the Nucks 35-20, including 16-1 in the 3rd period, but Sanford was outstanding. It's a relief to know that we have such a capable backup, and Sanford more than proved that last night. Fully deserving of the game's first star.So the kids played an inspirational game. Mason Raymond and Jason Jaffray were terrific with a goal and an assist each. They didn't look out of place at all. I'm excited for both, but especially Jason Jaffray, who is 26-years old and is finally getting his chance in the NHL. He is still smokin' with the Moose, but you know he is going to do everything in his power right now to stay with the big team. Heads up, this guy could go on a streak!"It was a great feeling to see the look on Mason's face when he got his first one out of the way," Jaffray said. "And when that puck went in for me, I could have jumped five, six feet in the air. It's definitely a moment I

      Canucks-Ducks Preview
Check out the highlights of the last time the Ducks and Canucks played where the Canucks won 4-0. In order for the same thing to happen again, a few things are going to have to occur:1. The team has to play well in front of Sanford. He lets out a fair bit of rebounds, and he is not Luongo. Luongo was the big story of that 4-0 win, stopping 15 shots in the first period before the rest of the guys even showed up, and stopping all 26 shots he faced. So was Kesler, who had 2 power play goals.2. I don't know if the team had a bad case of the shits in L.A., but they all played like their diapers were full. Uninspired. Sloppy. Sluggish. I do expect a better effort against the Ducks.3. Secondary scoring. The Sedins are off their game lately. They are losing battles along the boards, getting roughed up, and making stupid little fancy passes that are getting intercepted too often. That needs to stop right now. Play with some heart, you floaters! Until they stop being wimps, someone else has to

So we will finally get a decision from the completely confused Scott Niedermayer tonight regarding whether or not he will play for the Ducks this season. Personally, I couldn't care less. I'd rather he quit than make the Ducks a better team. He's also a douchebag for taking this long to make up his spoiled brat little mind and leaving his team and GM in limbo for so long. I don't care what he has accomplished... he's selfish. Time of the press conference: 6:30 PM Pacific Time. Ducks put Bryzgalov on waivers
Wow. I guess the Ducks have been trying to unload Breezy via trade and there have not been any takers. He only makes $1.36 million right now and becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, where I'm sure he'll be a pain in the ass and demand big money. This is a shocking move regardless. So who would/should take Bryzgalov right now?I've got a list in order.1. Penguins. Fleury is inconsistent and Sabourin, regardless of his little mini-run he's add is beginning to show his true colors. A Breezy-Fleury combo in Pittsburgh not only seems right, it reminds me of Dairy Queen for some reason, and makes me hungry.2. Thrashers. Take some heat off of Kari Lehtonen.3. Coyotes. Tellqvist is good. Auld is bad. Breezy could take over the #1 job there.4. Lightning. Marc Denis is still floundering in Tampa while Holmqvist excels. A Holmqvist-Bryzgalov combo ensures that goatending will not be an issue in Tampa this year.In some ways I can understand how teams won't take him, as he w

Sometimes you’re too close to it to notice. The patently obvious is ignored by my radar. The reports from school tell me important information that fill in some of the gaps, but I fail to note the duplication at home. Habituation has set in, not particularly for them, but for us, the parents. We’re so used to the squalking, bleating and rooster noises that we hardly hear them any more. Ear plugs are unnecessary as we just tune out the ‘white noise’ of his mouth, as well as all the clicks, clucks, sucky and blowy noises. They used to be irritants, now they are more of a semi musical accompaniment, a back drop or wall paper to our daily existence. I imagine, that if you were unfortunate enough to a secure the desk next to him in the classroom, you would have little chance of concentration. We need to address this. Answer comes to me like a flash of lightening, because I am an American. The quickest solution is probably the best one. The strategic placement of a six in

The Brunettes - Holding Hands, Feeding Ducks
An intriguing although not entirely successful blend of 1965 and 1981, the debut album by New Zealand's Brunettes starts brilliantly with the bubblegum mini-operetta "The Moon in June Stuff," a multi-part invention that mixes the free and swinging grace of a classic Gene Pitney or Shangri-Las single with a layer of hyper-self-aware irony common to post-punk teenagers who just discovered Phil Spector. Songwriter/producer Jonathan Bree and lead singer Heather Mansfield sound like they've digested decades' worth of bubblegum, echoes of everything from Joe Meek to the Apples in Stereo crop up in these songs, but the mixture of plinky synths and Burt Bacharach chords at the root of songs like "Talk to Jesus" or "End of the Runway" sounds refreshing and unique most of the time. The problem is that a few of the songs, like the gimmicky "Dancefloor" and the relentlessly name-dropping "Summer Love," sound a bit schematic, like you can tell which old records they've copped bits from. Funny jokes-Stepping on ducks
Stepping on ducksThree women die together in an accident and go to heaven. When they get there, St. Peter says, We only have one rule here in heaven: don't step on the ducks! So they enter heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place. It is almost impossible not to step on a duck, and although they try their best to avoid them, the first woman accidentally steps on one. Along comes St. Peter with the ugliest old man she ever saw. St. Peter chains them together and says, Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to this ugly man!The next day, the second woman steps accidentally on a duck and along comes St. Peter, who doesn't miss a thing. Jackets 4 Ducks 0
Yea, you read that correctly. We shut out the former Stanley Cup champions in our home opener. It was amazing you couldn't have asked for a better game. Ilya Bryzgalov was in net for the Ducks and Pascal Leclaire was in net for the Jackets. Leclaire proved to me he can be a good goalie...now he just needs to keep it up. Nash scored twice and got two assists on the night. Feds had a goal and an assist as did Ron Hainsey. The former Stanley Cup Champs couldn't get their first shot on goal until 16 minutes into the game. We dominated the play and the Jackets earned this win. Shots on goal were 37 (CBJ) to 28 (ANA). It was an impressive win and we got to hear the cannon go off a total of 6 times. It was pretty sweet to say the least. While some people could say the Ducks are tired and not playing their best hockey...well I am going to have to agree with what Randy Carlyle said:Asked if his team was tired after playing four games on two continents and in three arenas in less t

      "the travelling ducks" turns 1
It all began when Pearl was surfing the net to find out about the Indonesian drama series - Hikmah 1 as she wanted to find out the details of the hit series that had gotten most Singaporean Suria watchers glued on their TV set to follow the mishap of Ana. It was then when she bump to a blog Bila Pena Menari and a blogger named Xis and deviated her search and started reading the blog. Her find was shared with Pato and from there other blogs were found - Tepak Sireh, The Honourable Shah (now Scusi! Sono Smarrito) and Pencinta Merah. They were the early bloggers that had then expanded us to other blogs. We were happy to just reading other people blogs at that point. Our cousin, Wati was already blogging for her son and so does Pearl's younger cousins. We had couple of other blogs that we just love reading only. For us, blogging were the last thing on our mind. We could be said late bloomers, whilst many others are pro at blog writing, The Travelling Ducks blog was only born

Fresno State-Oregon: Can the Dogs Beat the Ducks?
by nscThe Ducks opened the season with two impressive wins. While they struggled in the first half against Houston, the Ducks were able to use their running game to blow out the Cougars in the end. This past Saturday the Ducks blew out a Michigan team in Ann Arbor that I do not feel is truly that strong. I understand that Oregon runs a very diverse offense in which they allow their QB to do pretty much whatever he wants to. I understand that Dixon is one of the better schoolyard QB's in the college football game today, but the win over Michigan does not tell me that Oregon is going to wipe the Dogs off the field. Last season Oregon started out very strong early on as well as they began the season 4-0. I don't know if this is the same type of team this year around, but once again the Ducks have begun the season hot and Fresno State will have to figure out how to shut down the option offense that Oregon likes to run if they want to win this game. The one positive is that Fresno State k

Short Sale: Ducks in a row!
Short sale tips  Once you contact the lender for information on their short sale requirements. And you receive the (faxed) package from them - DO NOT interpret the informational letter and package that they send to you as approval of your request.   Don't even take it that they will approve a short sale just based on the fact that they sent you what you requested.  This is just the beginning of the process!Sit down and go over all the paperwork with the seller(s) and make sure that they fill it all out.  Advise them to be truthful with their answers and review the paperwork before sending it back to the lender.Get your Duck in a row and then present the package in a way that the lender understands exactly what you are saying and sending them. This is the time for your written communication skills to shine, because they will not be holding very many telephone conversations with you! Get your facts together and present them to the lender

Thus reaching our 100th post took us nearly 11 months to reach! And rather than reminiscing the start of the blog for this post, we've decided to share another addition to this blog.On the 100th post a new segment is born - "the travelling ducks" @ Design Hotels. This will feature the hotels that we visited and stayed and reviewed. You might already get such coverage at many other blogs or on travel channels on cable, however this is abit more personal. From the eyes of Pato & Pearl, we share our experience and thoughts from the eyes of a designer as well as from the eyes of a common traveller. Different expectation, different perspective. The idea was created when Pearl had gotten a book that features all the Design Hotels around the world and thus, the inspiration of this addition came about which hopefu

Attack of the Unsinkable Rubber Ducks
No, not the ones presently floating around the world. These particular rubber ducks are far worse: "The notion that faith - belief in spite of an absence of proof or even in the face of compelling contrary evidence - is a form of mental and moral fortitude needs not merely to be challenged, but to be given the full point-and-laugh treatment, so that we can see afresh how this absurdity deserves ridicule rather than reverence." So says Christopher Brookmyre - who attacks faith, spiritualism and the afterlife in his new novel, going by the above mentioned title: Attack of the Unsinkable Rubber Ducks - and I couldn't agree more. The novel "takes its name from a coinage of the magician and sceptic James Randi to describe people who, no matter how much proof you try to submerge them in, always bob back up again with a new reason to keep believing." Check out Brookmyre's eminently readworthy article here. Technorati tags: afterlife • Christopher Brookmyre • faith • rubber

From Gummy Bears, Centurians, MASK to The Ewoks and others, we, the 70s kids without fail were glued to the TV sets and life was bliss....... And who cannot remember Transformers!! Those who grew up playing with Optimus Prime and Bumblebee would probably be the first in line to catch that much awaited Michael Bay's movie mania. We were not spared..... Last Thursday, when Transformers hit the island, we were the amongst of many that had earlier booked the tickets to watch the preview. In the cinema, all of us were sort of having the same feeling when we looked at each other. There were hardly screaming kids seen around. We were all IT...We knew we came from the same breed. the ducks and their Canons
Pearl got her camera when she was 18. These days, kids could hold theirs even at 4 !! Back then, Pearl had to pester her Dad to get her a new camera for her study trip in Australia. It was a Point & Shoot Yashica Automatic. That's when she actually started taking pictures at leisure. No background in photography, she just shoot whatever she thought that looked great. Even road signs... Digital was not in existance back then. Probably there was, but it was not in the trend yet. Years goes by and Pearl now wanted a "real" camera. Married by then, at 28, Pearl got her first ever SLR camera. She had started to borrow her Aunt Lala's Canon SLR and had fall in love with the weight and the grip. She saw the huge image of the Canon EOS300 flashed in one page newspaper spread one day and said "I want to have one of this one day".... ducks mini golf and snow
It's probably time for another update. Last weekend we went to Richmond to grab some lunch and lollies. We did the whole tourist thing and wandered around the streets a bit. The teddy bear shop on the green is pretty cool, but people that lived in Richmond about a hundred years ago must have all been midgets as the ceiling in the back room is soooo low. We grabbed some "duck bread" from the bakery, but the ducks were lucky to get any as it turned out to be a bag of really yummy looking fresh bread rolls. We also checked out the mini golf at Cambridge. E&B had been here before, but I hadn't and I was very impressed with it. It's a great little course and a lot of fun. Brad was on fire and thrashed us both. He actually did so well that he made it onto their top ten board, not to mention the hole in one and beating par on the special hole winning himself a free entry to ......... hmmmm, I can't remember what it was and I have no idea what happened to the pass

All the vaginas are lined up in a neat row!” At least he is calling them vaginas now.

      Ducks sign Giguere
J.S. Giguere is not going anywhere after all. The Ducks have signed Giguere to a 4-year $24 million deal today. "I'm very excited to be staying with the Ducks," said Giguere in a statement. "Orange County has been a great place for my family over the last six years, and we are grateful to the entire organization for the opportunity to stay here." The Ducks continue to have a two-tier system in goal with 2 great goaltenders in Giguere and Ilya Bryzgalov. Bryzgalov still has 1 year remaining in his contract, at $1,181,250 per season. This now means that it is 'Breezie' that is expendible. When will he be moved? Perhaps as early as this summer.T Tags: Jean-Sebastien+Giguere signed Ducks

      Way to go, Ducks!!
My ode to your blogger's sports favorites .... Fourteen years isn't such a bad return on investment. You see, I'm a rare breed of (Mighty) Ducks fan. A true original. Season-ticket holder since the winged ones first dropped the puck on Oct. 8, 1993 (a 7-2 loss to Detroit, by the way). So the Stanley Cup championship is a sweet payoff for my longevity as a devoted fan, a habit that's either a statement of durability or partial insanity. Being a Ducks supporter hasn't always been this fruitful. For a moment, just temper this week's Stanley Cup glow. It's hard to forget the Disney-ownership era, seasons with thrills and numerous gaffes — from personnel to marketing blunders — that created an Orange County indifference to the club. I'll admit there were years when I'd look at the bill for a season's worth of tickets — and pause extensively — before paying up. Yet this marvelous championship run somehow magically makes worthwhile all those dollars spent on tickets and hot d

When the ducks go to APM2007
We had wanted to go to this year's Anuegerah Planet Music 2007 (APM 2007), the long awaited Malay music event of the year which was held last Friday evening, however as Pato had to do a morning shift overtime, we decided not to take the risk of purchasing the tickets and not able to go on the date itself. So when Pato reached home at 7pm and told me to get ready - "Babe, we're going to APM!!", these ducks got ready in a jiffy and we were on the road at 7.45pm. Living in the East, we got to the Singapore Indoor Stadium in a nick of time but finding a parking lot was daunting. We managed in the end and got our tickets just past 8.30pm. Of course all the good seats were all taken, plus we're no VIPs..so we were happy enough to settle with the back seats where there were no one else seating in our row!..Who cares, its LIVE! To top that, Suria channel did not aired the event this year apart from Astro so its a consolation. The opening was by Altimet featuring Mawar Berduri

Are the Ducks the new 'model' team?
TSN's Bob McKenzie wrote an interesting piece on Thursday: While the Buffalo Sabres appeared to be the 'model' post-lockout NHL franchise, teams are now going to try to emulate the Anaheim Ducks. While the Ottawa Senators were able to outmuscle the rest of their Eastern Conference counterparts, they ran into a brick wall in the Finals. The Ducks simply had too many big, strong and skilled players for the Senators to deal with. Not only are the Ducks are loaded with big, strong skilled players, they also have a lot of youngsters who will benefit greatly from this experience. Players like Penner, Perry and Getzlaf had breakout campaigns and franchises around the league will be looking for players just like them to build their teams around. I don't like where that article is heading. How much does size really matter? Sure, the Ducks used their size to intimidate Ottawa, and it was quite beneficial overall. But I wouldn't say that the Sabres are less of a 'model' team. Even the Sabre

      Can this Ducks team repeat?
I've heard a lot of media outlets saying that this Ducks team is young and will be contending for a while in the future. While that may be possible, let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. There is speculation of Scott Niedermayer retiring at the age of 36, while he is on top. That is almost an insurmountable blow. From what I am seeing, the Ducks have the following players locked up: -Pronger for 3 more years.-Scott and Robb Niedermayer, McDonald and Marchant for 2 more years.-Bryzgalov, Perry, Kunitz and Getzlaf for one more year. That leaves a lot of players unsigned, and Brian Burke a busy busy man. What is Teemu Selanne going to decide? Would he want more than his $3.75 million if he stays? How much more are Giguere ($3.705 million), O'Donnell ($1.52 million), Pahlsson ($650,000), Moen ($475,000), Beauchemin ($500,000) and Dipenta ($500,000) going to demand? Giguere may be on his way out as his rate would be driven skywards in a bidding war after July 1. The same applies to Beau

Congrats to the Anaheim Ducks on winning the 2007 Stanley Cup. I have discussed this with Scott before but my favorite hockey memory is when Ray Bourque won Lord Stanley after YEARS in the NHL. It took him 22 years of playing in the NHL, he left Boston to go to Colorado with the sole goal of winning Stanley. They went to the finals in his first year with the Avs but lost, then he finally won it.

All of the people that have not been watching these Finals lose the right to bitch about having to wait for the 2007/08 season to start later this summer. I just don't fully understand how so many people tune out at this time of year. They are not true hockey fans that's for sure!So how does the NHL find a way to increase the amount of viewers in the Finals?I say:-make the game more exciting again. This barrage of trips to the penalty boxes doesn't cut it. I don't feel like watching endless power plays anymore. Obstruction calls should be justified ONLY if the hook or grab visibly impedes a skater's progress.-bring back old-style hockey again! I want to see violence and fights in the Finals. Senators / Ducks Game 5 Preview
The Sens appear to be confident heading into Game 5 in Anaheim tonight. (Ottawa Sun) But they probably just sound more confident. They have nothing to lose. It's now or never. A win in Anaheim could change their fortunes in this series. They could go back home down a game, win in Ottawa, and force this bad boy to a Game 7.But don't count on it. Gone is the Sens team that man-handled the Penguins, Devils and Sabres. Gone is that killer instinct and domination. Gone is the reliability of Ray Emery. He has been good, but has allowed too many softies. There are not enough things going right for the Sens right now. They look completely inconsistent out there and are breaking down. There are a lot of great things happening for the Ducks. When they play Carlyle's system to a T, they are nearly unstoppable. The Ducks once again forced a lot of turnovers from Ottawa in Game 4 and sped up the ice with odd man rushes. That kind of thing is going to bury the Senators, and really has buried them
